    Hi Helen. I have been looking for a video like this for as long as I can remember. I am a big fan of purple and pink. Thank you very much. It's really great to see a unique comparison like this. Thanks again❤

    Some of my favourite colours here...and some others that I now need! ;) Beautiful swatches! I really like how you are organising them into the folder.🎨😊

    Ahhhhh... That was a glorious thing to watch while winding down for the evening! I think you may be responsible for another night of me dreaming of watercolour swatches! 😂😴🥰
    It has also reminded me exactly how many of these violet-purples I own! 😂 It is a silly % of my rather meagre palette and several more than the greens I have! 🤣 Can you tell I love purples? 💜💜

    The granulating paints are my favorite, especially Schminke's Tundra Pink, beautiful. This is oddly satisfying, seeing you organize all the paints and making it so you are able to move individual cards around as you add more paints to your collection. Keep up the wonderful work!

      Yes, mine too! I can't even explain how satisfying it is to me, anyway! Thanks!

    The more of these you do, the more I am inspired to start my own set! For me, it would be a great way to start moving the brush around even if I'm not inspired to do something more structured. Get started is my weakness 😊 Thank you, Helen! You do have a lovely paint collection ❤

    That was perfect therapy for bedtime viewing, thank you. ☺️. Some more gorgeous colours, I really fancy the notturno & the haze & tundra colours. But they’re already on the list, 😉. Another technical question, about your guillotine please. What brand is it & would you recommend it?

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! Notturno is wonderful, but I'd say I prefer the Tundra colours to the Haze ones.
      The guillotine is the Precision Guillotine from X-cut. It's relatively cheap and cheerful, and the blade section needs tightening occasionally with the screwdriver key that comes with it, but I've tried others like Tim Holtz's expensive Tonic one, and I much prefer this one, because the arm goes fully up and you have better visibility.

    You will fill that book, I'm sure. I was interested in the Rembrandt Dusk Pink. I just wonder how close it is to van Gogh's Dusk Violet or Interference Violet. I would like something that is a good shadow colour after using Terry Harison's Shadow, which is nice but it's opaque and I would like something more transparent.
    Oh dear! Have I suggested another buying spree for you? Sorry. 😂

    Maybe you already know that, but double sided tape is tricky. I made cards with it and put them in a binder to give them away somewhere in the future. The double sided tape went loose after one year on some parts of the cards. Now I use a glue stick or PVA glue.

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yes, these ones may well do, because I'm just using up some cheapy old tape runners I've had for years! I'll just Pritstick them if it happens.

    You have beautiful swatch charts for so many of your art supplies, are you thinking of doing the same thing for your pencils/pastels/etc?

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I already have swatch sheets that I'm happy with, for most of those. I just want to make sheets that correspond to the slots in my new pencils cases. I almost never do any art without the corresponding swatch sheets!

    • @FaithAnnNB
      @FaithAnnNB ปีที่แล้ว

      @@helencryer I guess a lot of other supplies don’t grow as rapidly (or frequently) as watercolour paints where it’s just so easy to buy a few tubes or pans and quickly make a sheet out of date!

    QUESTION: suggestions for a bright violet/purple, NON-granulating, for a bright, colorful sunset? I’ve tried my 2 Rosa Gallery PV19 & PV23; both looked muted against the bright oranges, yellows…

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of the ones I've got, I think Schmincke Quinacridone Purple, PV55 might be the best. Quite smooth and builds to a beautiful rich colour.

    Loving these swatching videos. Can I ask what is probably a very silly question,and obvious to most ,(beginner here,)but what do the letters and numbers mean after the names of the paints please,many thanks 😊

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a silly question at all - an exciting one! They stand for the pigments (the fine coloured powder part) of the paints. The P stands for pigment, then a letter which stands for a colour group name, then a number which identifies a specific colour from an international colour index, based on its chemical composition. The same pigments are used across different good quality coloured media: watercolour, oils, oil pastels etc (Though different companies will prepare them in different ways, so the actual colours can vary a bit). So for example most Ultramarine Blues are PB29. P=Pigment, B=Blue, 29=29th blue pigment on the Colour Index International. The pigments can be from all sorts of sources.

      Ahh,I see,thanks for that explanation Helen. Only been painting a few months and really enjoying it,but now I know I’m going to stick with it I’ll start to invest in some quality paints,only have cheapies at the mo hence no numbers. I’ll be back with more questions!!!! 😂 Have good one …
