Deck builds with commanders like this are fine. But I think that a build with a more challenging commander would make for a better play experience. Options like Karona, False God or Tibor and Lumia are really fun to play, they just need some special considerations when building. But Shauku, Endbringer has to be the most challenging build I've ever attempted
Matt Lynn each of these commanders do present unique challenges for any deck build. These are ideas I would try with each one. But please understand that I don't own these particular commanders and when looking into strategies I didn't take any form budget into account. Also I've rated each commander on a 1-10 scale, with 1 being easy and being 10 difficult. Arcanis the Omnipotent would be a 1, while Teshar, Ancestor Apostle is a three for reference. Taniwha isn't to bad. I'd run a larger then normal mana rock line up, for obvious reasons. And Cryptic Gateway can help bring creatures in play when mana is limited. The phasing mechanic doesn't trigger ETB triggers so no landfall shenanigans. But phasing is tied to the untap step. So cards like Sands of Time, Avizoa, and Savor the Moment can keep Taniwha and your land from leaving play. However, while your lands are phased out cards like Coastal Breach and Upheaval can be truly devastating to the rest of the board. Overall a 7 in difficulty because you can build around and even exploit Taniwha's disadvantage. Shizuko, Caller of Autumn. I'd use group hug type cards like Rites of Flourishing, Tangleroot, and Horn of Greed. Using Shizuko to ramp into bigger creatures would be the best theme. But including Seedborne Muse, Orb of Dreams, and sticky tappers like Elvish Hunter will make sure that you'll get to benefit first from the global ramp that you provide. Overall a 8 in difficulty because you can't predict just how much your opponents will benefit from free mana. Maralen of the Morning. A fast and punishing combo is best. Because of the decks unique tutor effect an extreme majority of land and a few combo pieces should work. Ad Nauseam, Sickening Demise and Dark Sphere makes for a combo that wins the game in a single round. And Elixir of Immortality is almost an auto include to recover key pieces if disrupted. Overall a 9 in difficulty because this build is a one trick pony and opponents can tutor up counterspells to disrupt the deck. Morinfen. A typical black voltron build, with a twist, should work fine. Conjurer's Closet and Jhoira's Timebug can keep age counters off of Morinfen, while Sundrop Amulet can offset the damage. But a true all-star for the deck is Gibbering Descent. By using the hellbent strat adding in a discard theme with Bottemless Pit, Liliana's Caress and Dark Suspicions can help bring the pain. As a bonus Gallow Braid can also be used as an alternative commander. Overall a 10 in difficulty because the commander helps you to lose the game and can't be exploited in a reasonable manner. I hope this wasn't to long to read
@@draxthemsklonst I failed to mention a very important card interaction for the Taniwha deck that is to important to dismiss. Spells like Reality Ripple can be used to phase out enemy commanders. Since phased permanents don't change zones opponents can't choose to send the commander to the command zone. With Sands of Time in play(or any effect that skips the untap step)permanents do not phase out or phase in, because the untap step is skipped. So this combo can be used to lock out enemy commanders until Sands of Time is removed. This interaction also makes Teferi's Protection a problematic spell for opponents to use
I'd say you missed a trick with Vedalken orrery, it enables a lot of degenerate stuff with Teshar. Also KCI is pretty disgusting too. Instead of chunking that bauble for a draw next upkeep you can use it as 2 mana. I run teshar as a particularly consistent turn-6-win sac outlet commander in mono white, it's tasty.
Cool take on this guy. I think it would be very hard to actually win a game with him but the flavor can't be beat! Feel free to come check out some of my deck techs as well.

Taniwha.
Shizuko, Caller of Autumn.
Maralen of the Mornsong.
Morinfen.
Ever try any of them? What would you rank their difficulties?

This is a whole new perspective on Commander that should be played more. A challenging deckbuild sub format, very intriguing.
Matt Lynn thank you for looking over my suggestions/ideas for these commanders

The quality on your images are fantastic now, good stuff!
Would like to see him render vids at 1080p though, not just 720p

Is Deal Broker not on MODO?
