thanks for detailed explanation and also mentioning the required number of watchstones to progress further with quest exiles spawning big up this time, Grim
So basically.. Do all white maps... Do the corner maps to get watchstones and the key here is 'ramping up' .. Place a watchstone in 4 different regions to bring up the map tiers so that you get several yellow maps tier6+... Keep grinding tier4/5 maps so that you can get tier6/7 maps to drop (which are from the regions that you have 1 watchstone in)... Then start doing maps in the regions that you have watchstones in to get influence and do 3 or so maps to get a conqueror to spawn... rinse and repeat in other regions... Thanks Grimro.
Thanks. Great explanation. Had a really late start this league. The good thing is that when I really start playing next week most of the bugs will be fixed lok
Thanks, this really helped me out and wish I found it earlier. For the past 3 days I've just been doing random maps all over the place wondering why it took so long to spawn Baran.
4 inside zones, 4 outside zones; start: 1) do first level maps try to reach corner, get tower; (I somehow got influence on outside zone); still do 3 outside maps to get stone - place stone in outside zone? Repeat step 1 for 3 other inside zones (and outside influence for stones). If I understand correctly, then I should actually move my stones to inside zones and run until zone gets colored and get the stone (i.e. white and yellow inside zones)? Repeat process, but with 2 stones, then 3 stones, then 4?
lol dude. I didn't think I had any active but heard that and I was like 'what did I have on live search that finally popped?..' and looked at my browser tabs
4:50 How do you get +3 maps drops though? All connecting maps are +3. Geode > Belfry +3, Tower > Canyon +3. Do you have to just run maps bought from Zana?
Silly me! I thought that when you put the watchstone in the corners on the left of the atlas it counted as socketed in that region since when I did ctrl+click they went there :/ You're a life saver Grim! you are also using the Lioneyes Watch Tabern hideout too! I really like it!
I already got 3 watchstones just by completing maps. As long as you talk to the npcs it kinda just progresses on it's own while doing every map at least once. I was confused on how to progress tiers but this video made it clear: Just put watchstones in different areas and run adjacent maps to get from t5 into t6 and beyond. Putting all 3 of my watchstones into the same tower kinda does nothing since I can't get T11 maps by running an adjacent T2 lol
Nope I am still confused, really struggling to sustain maps. Currently on 17 watchstones but struggling to get red maps to drop so I can continue the curve
Grimbro you didn’t at all adress map progression. Once we have 4stones, how do we access the yellow tier version of white maps we’ve been stuck at for days? Can maps still only drop +2 tiers?
1) Do maps until a conqueror shows up 2) Keep doing maps in that region until Zana opens portals to go fight conqueror 3) Kill conqueror, get watchstone 4) Socket watchstone in regions to upgrade map tiers 5) Return to step 1 When you upgrade maps to new tiers, to GET those new, higher-tier maps, you need to run OTHER maps of similar tier or 1-tier lower until you get one to drop. For example, if you socket a watchstone in a region, a T1 map might become a T4 map - but you don't HAVE the T4 version. Simply run other T4/T3 maps until you get the newly upgraded T4 you want to drop - then return to Step 1. Hope this helps!
@@ZishPOE thanks, I have copied this and hopefully it will make more sense for me when I get to it in the game. but still I find the map system in 3.9 a total mess bs af... :/
Thank you so much for this vid Grim. At least now I feel like I am progressing towards something rather than just doing random maps and hoping something cool happens!
One thing I noticed in this guide that's wrong is that tier appropriate maps aren't required in a region, only the appropriate watchstone amount. I've been running reds until I spawn the conqueror (ilvl of initial spawn = ilvl of conqueror) then spamming whites in that zone until I get access to their citadel. I believe this is true for both the first 16 and the last 16, I'm not sure if you can SPAWN conqs in a white map (though I imagine you can; the punishment is just a lower ilvl conq) but you can definitely progress to fighting them using white maps.
@Grimro POE Thx for the video, but i got some more questions. As far as i know, all maps should be on the Atlas (just like before) since now the yellow maps are only obtenable by upgrading some. So here's my question: I got my fresh all white Atlas, and zana is selling me a T6, i run it, kill the boss, it says it's completed, but when i open my Atlas i can't see this map, and i guess it's kinda normal since it's a T6 map and my maps are from T1 to T5. So where is this map? On the same level, when i open my map tab, i see some red map, does this mean this map only exist in red tier? Will i be able to run it only in red tier or can i find it in white too? I don't understand where are some maps hidden, do they randomly spawn once you upgrade your Atlas? Or when you upgrade do some maps transform into others? It got me very confused.
It says, in game, that when you unlock watch towers, hidden maps may become visible. The videos streamers are making are a nice compendium for all this information but it's actually all in the game too if you don't skip the dialogue with NPC's
Figured something out from Experience. You will only get Tier 6 maps if you run Tier 5 maps with a socketed watchstone. If you run Tier 5 maps without a watchstone placed, you will not get to progress to Tier 6... So you must socket a watchstone after you do the corners.
I think its better to only socket 1 stone in at the beginning not the 4 you get. This way you can target farm maps for a specific area and can easily obtain all 4 stones in this area. Ofc you could just buy the maps but this way its feels better to solo farm for it
You discuss things after you get Zana...In standard I did 30+ white maps, no watchtower, I did legacy red map and all white maps are completed and I dont know which I did. Is Zana in t3 map first, so I should do all t3 first? Are watchtowers random but when choosen for player they stay in that map so if I run all t1-t5 maps ...some again... I will get all watchtowers? What is first: Zana or watchtowers or they are independent? I am going get level 98 doing white maps...
They made it so unnecessarily confusing - I have 3 watch-stones in Haewark and it says need 3 to spawn conqueror, have been doing 30 maps now in that zone and no spawn...
with 3 watchstones in a zone you need to be doing red-tier maps in the zone to get Conq to spawn. and i don't mean "red tier" like the atlas will show, which is bullshit. i mean the maps that are red-tier in your own inventory.
Everything looks cool and dandy, the real question is : How do you produce all these maps? Especially when you upgrade from yellow tier to red tier. In previous atlas if the map was connected, you had a chance to get it, now it makes no sense. For example when you upgrade one part of atlas, your map tiers instantly go up by 4-5 tiers... Unless you're forced to farm tier by tier and slowly go trough entire atlas?
I hope this is the right answer but in my experience what you do is unsocket all your watch stones execpt the zone you want to run. Then run the appropriate tiers of maps. So lets say you upgrade your region with 1 watch stone and it has a range of 4-6. Run any tier 4-6 tier of maps you have then the only maps that will drop are in that region that you have upgraded. It's kind of like when we shaped our atlas from before. where you uncompleted maps of the same tier so only one map would drop.
I really don't care for most tutorials in most games, but as good of a game PoE is, it's really lacking when explaining itself as all the still extremely complicated guides on youtube are evidence of.
absolutely. don't get me wrong - the new atlas SEEMS great, yet poe has advanced from rocket science to ufo science with that one. new stuff usually gets flamed at first - especially in video games - as i'm sure it is now from some sides. and explanations of mechanics from official sites never really were a poe-thing, but i'm sure the new atlas will be more loved after some time of getting used to it.
Hi Grim, you're making amazing videos and I like watching your content. One thing, don't know if you adressed it somewhere else, I've observed that after spawning initial influence the following maps can be of lower tier. i.e. spawning conqueror influence with a red tier and running white afterwards to start the encounter with zana (conqueror map was appropriate to red tier). I'm not yet at sirius, may that be only the case for the first 16 stones?
Great guide man! But how do i obtain the maps i need when i use one orb in the watchtower? Should i go with the tier 3 map in yellow to get the tier 6 map that is shown in the atlas?
Watch out when killing the new bosses if they die too far out the drops will be teleported inside the watchstone alter and will be unable to be picked up
when you add more stones to spawn a conqueror you need to run map of that tier? or you cuould run lower tier maps and only need to be the map of the area? ty for the video awsome info
You don't require the correct tier of maps once you have influence in the area. Lets say i run T14 to spawn influence, you can then run white maps in the area to pursue the conqueror, even if map on atlas is T13 for instance, you can run a T2 version with the same name.
Maybe I missed it, but if I have a tier 14 map, but on the atlas it is tier 16, does it count towards spawning drox/baran/etc? Also, if you switch regions, is all your progress reset in the region you left? This is all regarding situations after awakening 4.
This is insanely helpful. I have a potentialy dumb question. I have a map, lets say Tier 3 in my stash. That map on Atlas is also Tier 3. When I socket a watchstone, that same map on the atlas becomes Tier 7 (just for example's sake). My map in Stash is still Tier 3. When I run it, even though it says on the Atlas that its Tier 7, am I still running a Tier 3 map? Henceforth, my Tier 3 map will still only drop Tier 2-4 maps, but not Tier 6-8. This means that it makes no sense to socket watch stones until you naturally progress out of lower tier numbers?
Figured this out from Experience. You will only get Tier 6 maps if you run Tier 5 maps with a socketed watchstone. If you run Tier 5 maps without a watchstone placed, you will not get to progress to Tier 6... So you must socket a watchstone after you do the corners.
Ok so are the cartographer trophies still the same in 3.9. I’ve completed all yellow and red maps now and both trophies did not pop for me. Do those watch stones have something to do with it now? I’m not sure really where to ask this question and googling it didn’t really give me any answers.
The left table/panel is actually a place to store your watchstones it doesn't affect the Atlas in any way whereas if you put them in the watchstone towers the region will be effected
Right? So I need another guide to play this fucking game just so they can change everything again in PoE 2.0? The atlas was the only thing that stayed relatively the same and they probably made a lot of nonsense changes to it so it's obtuse to the average player. Maybe this insight into the game will eventually trickle down to the rest of us after streamers/youtubers, who personally talk to the developers, dole it out to us.
@@EmmaDilemma039 Jfc christ dude imagine crying about receiving new content because you are too lazy to take the time to understand it. In PoE of all games lmfao. This is what you signed up for. GIt Good.
Are the watch stones inventory on the left side of the Atlas does anything or are they just meant for storing your watchstones , I'm still confuse with the region level
thanks for the info. someone at ggg really put some effort into a deep atlas system. however, who are they targeting with this? previously, you could just run some maps without micromanaging your atlas and be fine, make profit and progress. who understands this overly convoluted new atlas? it's why delve is so popular: click a node and go. i didn't think they would introduce something as convoluted as synthesis. i'll give it a shot for another week, but this is kinda meh imo. (disclaimer: been playing since january 2013 and did several 40/40 challenges so not exactly a casual player)
So, this is all the mechanics behind Atlas and GGG did not even implement a single direction for all of that into the game? Seriously? What a MESS! Thank you for all the explaination, did help me a lot!
Once you get the first four watchstones, you'll be about through all the white maps and it will be time to start naturally progressing into yellow maps when you socket the watchstones. You basically *have* to - otherwise you'll just be stuck at 4 watchstones forever.
Now you said it needs to be 3 diferent named maps to spawn the region boss, but it happened to me on multiple occasions now that i did all 3 maps same or 2 same and one diferent and it spawned. So is this a bug or intended?
I have two zones with no watchtower for which I am supposed to be lvl2 to spawn an exile. Did I miss a zana portal to a watchtower in one of the maps from the zone or will get access to an exile fight and its watchtower somehow during the progression.
@@Grimro but is it possible to spawn their influence and then fight them if the left sidebar is telling me that the zone needs to be lvl2 at least to spawn one. Or is that unrelated.
How do you get the bar on the left ?, I have 8 citadels and 4 stones, and i still have not got that bar.. I think its.............. another bug from GGG.
Im not getting any influence at all. I did abound 100 maps in all regions and still nothing. One region is "locked" and i removed all stones i already had. Any advice?
So I have about 17-20ish stones, on tirns end, i need a blue, great, it requires region level 4, fine... so i put 4 stones in tirns end. Elderslayer spawns. Hooray. Its the red guy. So no watch stone, how can I make sure that doesnt happen?

Grimbro you didn’t at all adress map progression. Once we have 4stones, how do we access the yellow tier version of white maps we’ve been stuck at for days? Can maps still only drop +2 tiers?
1) Do maps until a conqueror shows up
2) Keep doing maps in that region until Zana opens portals to go fight conqueror
3) Kill conqueror, get watchstone
4) Socket watchstone in regions to upgrade map tiers
5) Return to step 1
When you upgrade maps to new tiers, to GET those new, higher-tier maps, you need to run OTHER maps of similar tier or 1-tier lower until you get one to drop. For example, if you socket a watchstone in a region, a T1 map might become a T4 map - but you don't HAVE the T4 version. Figured this out from Experience. You will only get Tier 6 maps if you run Tier 5 maps with a socketed watchstone. If you run Tier 5 maps without a watchstone placed, you will not get to progress to Tier 6... So you must socket a watchstone after you do the corners.
very good guide, thanks :D
Ok so are the cartographer trophies still the same in 3.9. I’ve completed all yellow and red maps now and both trophies did not pop for me. Do those watch stones have something to do with it now? I’m not sure really where to ask this question and googling it didn’t really give me any answers.
Yo Grimro is there any reason to put watchstone at the left side ... table/panel? instead of in our atlas(citadel)?
The left table/panel is actually a place to store your watchstones it doesn't affect the Atlas in any way whereas if you put them in the watchstone towers the region will be effected
So to spawn a new conqueror, after you get that area leveled up, you must use at least two or more cobalts? to spawn the following?
Does aniwone else has the issue where you do 4 maps min of a certin area and nothing happening?
so now after needing a phd I need to get a masters to play this game, good dammit
GIt Good.
it literally lays it all out for you in the quest text and atlas text. so if you can read and follow instructions....you'll be fine. jeez
The reason I still fuck with this game is because they don’t hold your hand with new content.
Phd is higher than masters....
Are the watch stones inventory on the left side of the Atlas does anything or are they just meant for storing your watchstones , I'm still confuse with the region level
It's for quick access and socketing after you get more of them
Is there anyway to target farm maps or even regions ? putting 4 watchstones everywhere kinda messes up zone farming...
...
thanks for the info. someone at ggg really put some effort into a deep atlas system. however, who are they targeting with this? previously, you could just run some maps without micromanaging your atlas and be fine, make profit and progress. who understands this overly convoluted new atlas? it's why delve is so popular: click a node and go. i didn't think they would introduce something as convoluted as synthesis. i'll give it a shot for another week, but this is kinda meh imo. (disclaimer: been playing since january 2013 and did several 40/40 challenges so not exactly a casual player)
So, this is all the mechanics behind Atlas and GGG did not even implement a single direction for all of that into the game? Seriously? What a MESS! Thank you for all the explaination, did help me a lot!
ty this helped alot
Can you use the ,,unupgraded" versions of maps for the next 4 watchstones or do you need to use the higher tier version of them?
You have to run the current-tier maps in the region - the conquerors won't spawn in a region with watchstones socketed if you run white maps.
important question: Is ts dead or can you do the league mechanic? :O
It's not dead and yes I can kill 4 watch stone conquerers solo without close to best in slot gear.
@@Grimro Thank you!
how many map completion do you suggest we need to start socketing watchstones to progress from white to yellow maps?
Once you get the first four watchstones, you'll be about through all the white maps and it will be time to start naturally progressing into yellow maps when you socket the watchstones.
You basically *have* to - otherwise you'll just be stuck at 4 watchstones forever.
@Grimro PoE I have 8 watchstones now, but one of my watch towers (top left) has disappeared, and is not influenced by anyone. Any ideas? Cheers
The only thing I care about, do you unlock Legion in the map device at 16 obtained watchstones?
Nop
ugh as always thank you.
When you put a stone in to upgrade the area to the next tier, how do you get your next tier of maps in that area?
hey grim awesome video as always, my little poe consultant ;)
Will you update the Spreadsheet "Atlas Sector Tier List" since you experienced it now?
Yes after I finish getting all 32 stones tomorrow.
Now you said it needs to be 3 diferent named maps to spawn the region boss, but it happened to me on multiple occasions now that i did all 3 maps same or 2 same and one diferent and it spawned. So is this a bug or intended?
thx mate now I get it
Thanks bro.
Is the platinum trophy on ps4 still possible with the conquerors update?
jesus christ this was super helpful
I have two zones with no watchtower for which I am supposed to be lvl2 to spawn an exile. Did I miss a zana portal to a watchtower in one of the maps from the zone or will get access to an exile fight and its watchtower somehow during the progression.
You will gain access after killing a conquerer in that zone.
@@Grimro but is it possible to spawn their influence and then fight them if the left sidebar is telling me that the zone needs to be lvl2 at least to spawn one. Or is that unrelated.
In the end I switched hideout and ran two more t3 and it unlocked my fortress with each maps.
what about metamorph? have u found out how to target farm the parts we want?
Fábio Rodrigues specific maps drop specific body parts
How do you get the bar on the left ?, I have 8 citadels and 4 stones, and i still have not got that bar..
I think its.............. another bug from GGG.
It does indeed sound like a bug sadly.
Im not getting any influence at all. I did abound 100 maps in all regions and still nothing. One region is "locked" and i removed all stones i already had. Any advice?
Hmm i have awakening level 4 and 18 stones socketed and working on my 19th however zana never spoke to me about sirus
So I have about 17-20ish stones, on tirns end, i need a blue, great, it requires region level 4, fine... so i put 4 stones in tirns end. Elderslayer spawns. Hooray. Its the red guy. So no watch stone, how can I make sure that doesnt happen?
I'm kinda stuck after 8 watchstones. Thanks for vid.
Which hideout is that? When googling Brutal Hideout it shows something else.
I'm even more confused now. As a returning PoE player I feel completely lost to be honest.
same here
Its honestly ridiculous. Shouldnt have to watch an hour of youtube or read a 20 page document to hopefully understand.
@@v2occy809 and then you finally hit level 80-90 and realize that your build was not optimal and you keep getting oneshotted by a rat
@@v2occy809 It's called bad game design
Same here, and honestly I like that feeling, love how much more interesting the end game now
thanks again grim
Can i spam maps from multiple areas to get influence to spawn?
You can, as long as the proper amount of watchstones are socketed in that region to spawn a conqueror.
Hey one quick help guys, I have the 16 watchstones but still no quest to fight Sirus and still the same quest to find the conquerors. Any idea what to do next?
