Do you think that it’s worth the money to spend on that little piece of leather for additional 10k more in a bag ? Any tips will be appreciated ❤️
Funny, you couldn't have found a better timing for bringing this topic: I fell in love with a vintage Kelly 35 in beige canvas/ burgundy box leather (I was puzzled by the price though which appeared not to be on par with a canvas bag to me but your video just answered my interrogation) and was about to send you the link this morning! Those new propositions are fun. I appreciate the fact that they are still slightly pushing the envelope by combining the leather with different patterns, different cuts in order to make the whole result look more modern. I do remember finding the Kelly pique-nique totally ridiculous and overpriced over 10 years ago, but I happen to really like the design now (OMG I would kill for your CDC cuff in the same style) and 2021's tag should be even more extortionate! The harness Birkin is indeed an homage to the equestrian heritage but is most and foremost, very reminiscent of what Martin Margiela brought not only to the brand 20 years ago but also to its own label, as I used to own a leather jacket from him with the same type of harness. It might look aesthetically out of place at first sight, but it can also be a very edgy accessory if styled properly.... which is actually the main issue coz it requires a lot of hard work. A Birkin bag should be effortless and versatile IMHO, aka it should naturally work for you instead of you, working very hard to "fit in" the bag!
I remember getting offered a canvas Birkin quite a few years ago, and I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the price 🤯 so I'm not surprised the trend is similar pre-loved 🤦🏻♂️ The price will be insane for sure, but not nearly as obscene as it'll be on the resale market 😅 Your analysis is spot on 🙌
Oh my gosh,adding a strap/bondage cage to the Birkin to me is just wrong,a Birkin is a Birkin and l think it looks like it is suffocating.l do however love the new Kelly Depeche 25,the beautiful canvas with the stunning leather trim,Perfection,🌺🌞

Wasn’t Birkin created because Jane couldn’t find a bag that could hold all her stuff and she was down to a straw basket when traveling? So the picnic version is reverting to the same idea?

I hate the way some people attach random little accessories that they buy from other brands to transform the Birkin to give it straps, I cannot stand that. I truly enjoy all the unique pieces they do, like the wood Kelly you shared. However, the canvas pieces are hard for me to get behind with the pricing because I worry about it staining. I was offered a red Constance with the neutral canvas recently and I was just too scared. I also don’t care for bright colors with a cream canvas. I could see it in Gold or in Barenia Fabourg.

I do have a couple of pieces in ostrich and alligator. While both beautiful, they're not really made for everyday use in my experience. Ostrich less so, but exotic skins are finicky. If you opt for croc / alligator in Lisse (shiny finish) you have to be extremely careful with any moisture around the bag, whereas matte is prone to fine scratches beyond belief 🐊

I would strongly prefer matte alligator... unfortunately, in my research i also discovered it gets increasingly shinier over time and that this cannot be amended. Thanks again!
