Rock Quarrying for Wicklow Roads 1940's

In the 1940's local county engineer J.T.O' Byrne was involved in all the engineering projects in Co.Wicklow. J.T. carried his 8mm camera with him and managed to capture many vignettes of life during the 1940's & 50's in Ireland. This clip shows the blasting of the rocks with Army accompaniment , collection of the rock and early crushing machinery.
The voice over at the beginning of the film clip is Mr. John De Coursy - Retired Wicklow County Council .
This film clip accompanies a short article on a New Wicklow Heritage website being launched in October 2024.
