Billy is one of the rare artists today that is inspiring enough to introduce you to genres you never took the time to appreciate. I can’t stress enough how great these shows are, Cory!
Had the good fortune to see Billy play in Austin a month or so ago. He's not kidding about driving his career with his live shows, he and the band were unbelievable.
Had an out of body experience this past February when I’m watching Eddie Barbash open with Sierra Hull for Cory Wong and I realize he is one half of the NYC street saxophone duo video that we see in this video. I had watched this video, without exaggeration, dozens of times as a young sax player. I’m a guitar player now but if you want to talk about nostalgia, that’s easily one of the most nostalgic moments I’ve had ever
got chills when Billy talked about the audience energy "playing the band"-- YES! -- I don't think I've heard it articulated that way, but 100% some of my best concert experiences have been exactly THAT
I am literally crying (tears of joy). Cory, if you see this, you are THE MAN! I got to see Billy play with Bela Fleck's band at Carnegie Hall this last January. He is simply amazing.
Wow Billy is a really deep musician, this is one of the best interviews I've seen you do Cory. I had no idea about Billy's past, I'm amazed he's able to see himself and his music and the history of all of it so clearly
This is such an great interview. Billy Strings is such an amazingly humble dude. For me, one of the most impactful things he talks about is the fact that he has a therapist. Normalizing that kind of mental health maintenance is such an important thing. Thank you, Billy, for being honest about that aspect of your life. There is no shame in therapy. It's a form of medical treatment and there is never shame in taking care of ourselves.
Your interview with Billy Strings was a serious high point. Knowing very well the difficulty of bringing musicians into a room and getting a revealing and honest conversation in a relaxed and intense setting, made it all the better for me. Really well done interview. The best I’ve seen of Billy Strings in conversation. Very revealing. Thanks so much.
Cory, your skills as an interviewer are underappreciated, or at least overshadowed by your musical talent. You let the subject answer the questions and direct the conversation, instead of talking over them to interject your opinions, like so many youtubers/podcasters.
This is amazing crossover content for me. I regularly introduce people to both Vulfpeck / Wongnotes and Billy Strings. Having Billy on Cory's show is a real treat for me personally! I love everything about this content. The interview was incredible. To Cory, thanks for being an amazing artist and leader.
I've spent the last few years trying to convince everyone that Billy Strings is a flat-out superstar. This will make the job a lot easier - thank you Mr Wong!
Billy's solo on Road Trip was phenomenal! Subtle, rhythmically sound and just creative and perfect for the song (including the transition into the funk vamp backing for it).
Billy mf Strings I saw him the first time one year ago next month, went fully down that rabbit hole bc I loved it so much. I'll have seen him 20 times since that first time 11 months ago....im an addict to his music its so great especially live......GOAT 4 life
Getting some serious Flecktones Big Country Live at the Quick vibes off your song with Billy, and I'm 1 million percent down with it. Keep inspiring Cory!
Such a good show, but the interview was awesome. Billy was so honest about his going forward in his life, realizing the drugs hold us back, and his talent with the git tar is off the charts. Thanks to Cory for such shows for us to watch, enjoy and learn from. They are a great combination of musicianship, spotlights on the band members AND other artists and this show is a win win. Thanks for the great content Cory.
My first intro to Billy Strings was via his jam with Tommy Emmanuel on youtube at the Grey Fox bluegrass festival .. and i'm forever rewatching because it's still so epic.
Lovely conversation. I just want to mention here, too, that the young ones, Sierra, Molly, Michael and Billy all stood their ground in Béla Fleck's "My Bluegrass Heart" and sounded like themselves more than before. My compliments to all of You!
Cory and the band - I don't know if you're reading the comments but I just wanted to thank you for all you're doing. Seeing you all have fun and play music togethr makes me feel like I'm part of the family even though it's a weird one-way internet thing. I've seen all episodes of the wongnotes and looking forward to more. Peace!
1:09:12 "Music is freedom and if you just, you know, get yourself out of the box, it becomes this amazingly free amoeba of like just jelly... fish love" Wise words
This episode was so cute with all of the throwbacks! I super relate to what Billy Strings was talking about with childhood being the best part of life, super real stuff
That was one of the more insightful and inspirational moments of life, I have ever experienced. Such a joy to hear from both Billy and Cory. I was glued the entire time to the video.
Billy is a genius; A truly honest artist, who is not full of himself. We are lucky to witness his growth. Grisman and Billy lead the way in Cannabis consumption! LOL Cory is a generous interviewer.
Great interview guys..... I saw Duane Allman playing one night with Delaney and Bonnie and said I want to play like that .... I'm 70 and still playing......keep it up boys really enjoy listening to you play.....👍👏👌
Billy is a real musician. Not about working out, playing to a metranome and being the best. He's about soul and that Trumps any musical skill. He's the difference between a orchestra or session player. He's a composer of beautiful art. A true musical idol. Musicians write emotion into our lives. They help us process them. It's not a sport of who can do the "hardest" thing. We do need some work horses to keep song's held together. To support the art of the artist. Without people like Billy music is boring. Thank you Billy. Would be beautiful to see him play with Mayer. Cory thank you, and your bandmates, for being the glue helping holding music up. I'll keep tuning in for shows like this, for sure!
My mind is still blown that this kid that was playing bars in my town is now everywhere. Great job, Billy! Can't wait to see Cory and the gang on Sunday!
I can't think of a cooler band leader than you, Cory. You really bring joy and fun to the table. It's visible how everybody loves being there with you.
That was such a great interview with Billy! He really opened up and gave great insight into how his experiences have shaped his music. Shows like this are exactly what's missing from network TV these days. Loved the outro too, with most band members riffing on the does it hold up segment from early in the episode. Kevin should have had his keyboards in the flying V formation though.
Thanks for the interview with Billy (everything else is excellent as well). I appreciate you letting him talk. My favorite question was, “can you play me your interpretation of that?” Great stuff.
Man, Cory. Your shows just keep getting better and better. It’s like what I always wanted to late night talk shows to be about, just the musical acts, comedy sketches, and really deep interviews. Keep crushing it!
Got to see Billy and his band right before Halloween in 2017 here in Eugene, OR. He's such an amazing performer and I'm going to see him again later this year. Can't Wait!
Interview segment with Billy is beautiful. Love his therapists advice regarding playing with Bela. So much love and respect for Billy. Great episode Cory!!
First time ever seeing your channel and I just have to say it was much appreciated! I came for Billy but as a music lover I watched and truly enjoyed every minute of it. New sub for sure! I saw Billy play open mic night in my hometown 10 years ago and knew he was something special. I saw him busking, playing in a bookstore basement for 20 people and countless times at local bars with Don Julian. Hung out and had beers, smoked a little weed and always hoped he would find his way. This interview shows me he really has done just that. It’s been several years since I’ve seen him but definitely making it a priority this year whether he comes to northern Michigan or not! I’m so happy he found his way for others to enjoy his talents!
amazing crossover that i never knew i needed. so pure, free, and flowing in regards to both the interview conversation and the jam at the end too. 10/10
17 year old Petar's dad running the lights is a mood.
Production value is amazing. Who ever does the writing is hilarious. Such an underrated show on TH-cam.
Billy is one of the rare artists today that is inspiring enough to introduce you to genres you never took the time to appreciate. I can’t stress enough how great these shows are, Cory!
Yep, and Cory really seems to be into bluegrass a lot. He's played with Sierra Hull on tour too.
I think most Americans are aware of bluegrass.... Maybe not as fans but definitely know about it it's your culture
I've always liked that style. But I'm guilty of not liking that genre. There hasn't been anyone like him in a very very very long time.
Hi, im poppy
@@benink5690 Never heard of the Infamous Stringdusters eh?
Petar for the win. Oh - and that funk at 21:10.
Had the good fortune to see Billy play in Austin a month or so ago. He's not kidding about driving his career with his live shows, he and the band were unbelievable.

Love these allusions to real-life companies! They add a touch of depth to this series.

I am literally crying (tears of joy). Cory, if you see this, you are THE MAN! I got to see Billy play with Bela Fleck's band at Carnegie Hall this last January. He is simply amazing.
I wanted to go to that so bad. Work stopped me. Not personally lol. Me having to work stopped me.
3rd row center for me and my kid at that show. It was worth the dollars.
Wow Billy is a really deep musician, this is one of the best interviews I've seen you do Cory. I had no idea about Billy's past, I'm amazed he's able to see himself and his music and the history of all of it so clearly
halfway through ‘road trip’ when the drums change up is amazing… billy’s flying a bluegrass kite in a funk storm ⛈
Barbash is definitely the sleeper virtuoso in this band; his parts in the bluegrass collaborations make them next level original.
That synchronization of Cory and Eddie starting at 28:00 is incredible
right?!
Dude Billy is FANTASTIC

Billy is just oozing with emotion
The dream collab that I NEVER expected

Petar coming back brought tears to my eyes. What a special moment
Cory and The Wongnotes is my favourite telenovela
I've spent the last few years trying to convince everyone that Billy Strings is a flat-out superstar.
This will make the job a lot easier - thank you Mr Wong!
Sonny singing love's in need of love today is just wonderful, much love!!!!
doubling the guitar with the sax on the song was such a great choice.
Billy's solo on Road Trip was phenomenal! Subtle, rhythmically sound and just creative and perfect for the song (including the transition into the funk vamp backing for it).
This interview really spoke to my heart in a way I never expected it to. Damn, the quality of this show is immense.
Lampley with the crooked ankle/hand-in-pocket combo at the end. Petar with the white chapeaux. Cory with the hops. I fucking love this band.
Don't forget Michael Nelson on the tambourine!
The ending killed me 🤣🤣🤣
Sammy G with the banana and Sonny T with a lil soulful sangin' lol
What incredible content Cory keeps bringing us. The episodes keep getting better and better.
Honestly the skits on their own are gold. Cory really deserves all his success and more.
Content...that word is so hot right now
@@oinkooink As it was in '96, when it was declared king.

YES!
I felt the same and heck yeah keep it up!
Right there with you! Big Country all the way
Exactly man!
Totally
Good to see Cody back in the fold, even better to see Petar back 😍
Great seeing Cody Fry!

This whole answer, including before and after this quote, was just the best.😊
This is literally a revolution for instrumental and jazz content! Thank you Cory. You have a TV level of production and it is free... mind-blowing!
TV all used to be "free with ads" or even just plain free, even broadcasting analog signals until very recently.
Of course, if there weren't ads, then it was subsidized by patrons such as governments and wealthy benefactors. The money has to come from somewhere.
If you believe it's "free" then you're the product/payee...
Another amazing episode!
Billy is a wise kid ...great interview.
This episode was so cute with all of the throwbacks! I super relate to what Billy Strings was talking about with childhood being the best part of life, super real stuff

The crossover I didn't know I needed until it happened.
I really appreciate this Cory. Thanks for letting Billy talk. I caught some real gems here.
Billy is a genius; A truly honest artist, who is not full of himself. We are lucky to witness his growth. Grisman and Billy lead the way in Cannabis consumption! LOL Cory is a generous interviewer.
OMG!! Who knew Sonny T could sing like that?? Holy crap! he has the voice of an angel!
Cory and Billy together !
Love them both ❤️
The world wants to see Petar in that pink jacket!
So happy to see Cody & Cory jamming altogether again
love that jam at the end! Funk and bluegrass together at last!!
Сколько смотрю выступления с Билли, это всегда прекрасно!!!!!
Watching you both jamming it out was incredible, it truly was magic
Are you kidding me! This episode and interview are just wonderful.
Billy's smile at the end of their jam is priceless !! Pure light passing through. Amazing exchange once more... Thanks guys
To Cory and everyone involved in this process, thank you for all the work you put in to this show. These videos never cease to amaze
What an awesome melding of two greats of this generation. Your jam at the end was sick.

That ending jam was AMAZING, more of that plllzzzz and thankyouuuuuuuu
Seeing Billy with Cory made my day even before playing the video
Love that Nêgah Santos is a YES for Lampley before everyone else.
Čovek sanja Bog određuje 💪💪 Petar 💙💙

These folks have a crazy amount of chops between them!
I mean, Cory is just fucking taking over the playlist at this point.
mr wong is one of the best rhythm players ive ever seen. the jam at the end is so wild. what a treat to have. so sick guys. godbless
What a thoughtful and insightful set of observations from Billy! Respect the song. Be involved in the moment.
i thought i was watching a live recording of a song. i have no idea what i'm watching. originally here for billy. but this is hilarious.
This show is so good. It's really fun to see musicians enjoying themselves so much and playing at such a high level. It's also legit funny.
music, production quality, guest involvement, everything is top notch as usual. grateful for the content Cory!

favorite ep yet! love the sketches, bits, and interview. Keep it up wongnotes!
It should be illegal to have this much fun.
Exceptional tune with Billy Strings...reminds me of the Dixie Dregs...☮💕
Billy's timing with that sneeze was perfect
The segment with Billy is sweet.
The camera angle at times makes the scale of the guitars seem gigantic.
Michael Nelson playing the tambourine at the end got me.
Favorite episode! Wise and full of emotional vibes and great music! 🎵
Excellent interview. Cory lets Billy talk. His band is the best out right now. The best shows you will ever see.

As a huge fan of both bluegrass and funk, it is so fun to see these worlds collide.
Keep bringing joy to the world Cory, just amazing - respect for the song is MY takeaway!
What an absolute gorgeous arrangement of music. Holy cow.
