When I first saw that Lucah was LPing Banjo Tooie my first thought was, "I can't wait until she gets to Humba Wumba"
hell that was my comment on the last video
my first thought was "Oh god what is her reaction going to be for Honey B.?"
Same
Tooie: It's a family game.
Lucah: zooms RIGHT in
i'd beleive tht ifit wasn't for humba wumba and the fact one of the bosses BLEEDS RED BLOOD when you hrut him
@@sarafontanini7051 Don't forget the literal monument to 'hit and run' manslaughter at the start of the game ala the 'Grey Jinjo House' REAL family-friendly content there XD
Banjo-Tooie, the family game.
Lucah: "Hold my controller, let me fix that."
Fun Fact: In Grunty's Fun Furnace, if you got the character's voice question and it's Mumbo's voice, one of the choices is "Humba Wumba the Shaman."
Huh interesting, wonder if this was a joke line later made into a character or humba wumba at some point was originally going to appear in banjo kazooie but was cut.
@@maverickdarkrath4780 well, given Jamjars, it was probably the former
Lucahjin: Jon would do a thing like this
Jon: Would I?
Literally second later
Lucahjin: How do you zoom?
This broke me so badly!
30:07
29:40 Fun Fact: Humba Wumba was one of the wrong answers you could give in Grunty's Furnace Fun for what Mumbo's name was, so they had her name decided from all the way back then (along with other elements that got reworked for a sequel, such as some world concepts and design).
Same goes Jamjars regarding Bottled
Any cheats you get from Cheato (or other official sources in-game) are fine to use in this version. It's just using cheats that you haven't properly unlocked that turn off saving as far as I'm aware.
I'm pretty sure that's the first game where cheats are not okay to use, and only the ones that require you to enter "CHEAT" before entering the one you want to use, like "CHEATNOWYOUCANSEEANICEICEKEYWHICHYOUCANHAVEFORFREE" resulted in Grunty warning you you won't be able to save or add your times for that file to the leaderboards.
The Xbox version doesn't appreciate players who try to get the Ice Key without playing Nuts N' Bolts.
Alas, even though we now have the heavenly gifts of consistently high framerate and increased draw distance, there is one major downside to the XBox version. Something nearly unspeakable that will render it unplayable for future generations...
_Jamjars' drill rhymes relating to the buttons were not rewritten and no longer work._
I'm starting to think lucah will never... NOT be lost in this game lmao
who DOESNT get lost in this game?
first couple worlds are fine but when you start getting to the dinosaur level onwards its just giant mazes
Lucah may never NOT cycle through all the crouch actions before finally doing the “poop” one
@@red5robb1 The final world is surprisingly decent at this, but the three or so worlds right before it are pretty rough with directions yeah.
@@red5robb1 Grunty Industries is the worst in this regard, plus you're dealing with constantly respawning enemies that can only be killed by grenade eggs.
@@red5robb1 I would say only Terrydactyl Land and the ice side of Hailfire Peaks are easy to get lost in, mainly due to how similar a lot of areas and smaller passages can look.
Grunty Industries is complex but can be segregated by each floor's function and overall colour scheme, making it easier to break the level into chunks to remember.
The fireside of Hailfire Peaks is 80% lava, so there's not much ground to remember, and its open nature makes it easy to fly high and see the level in its entirety.
Cloud Cuckooland is similar, with little ground and open air, but with more distinct landmarks that make it easier to remember them and where they would be adjacent to the central mountain.
Of course, this is me speaking from the hindsight of playing the game as a kid, so a first-time player will take a lot longer to figure out the layouts of each world. But getting lost is part of the experience; after all, that's what makes it an adventure!
In the Xbox version of this game, if you try and enter any cheat which will disable the ability to save and disable achievements and leaderboads, the game WILL warn you after you enter it, then ask you to confirm whether you do want to enter it or not. There is one common factor in all those cheats though; all the 'forbidden cheats' begin with the word "CHEATO" so if you don't have to enter "CHEATO" to activate a cheat, you're fine.
All the cheats which don't start with "CHEATO" (And there's a total of 7 if memory serves) CAN be activated early if you know the codeword, but you need to enter "CHEATO" then the cheat BACKWARDS. But doing that will ALSO activate the "disable saving and leaderboards/achievements" flag on the Xbox versions of the game
Aside from the Jinjos being randomized every game, so are Klungo’s potions in his fight.
I wonder if Jon got lucky and got Invisibility first again since he didn't comment on it.
Apparently on the XBox they changed that, and made them always be in the order of Growth, then Invisibility, then Multiply
@@YumiSparkles really? Aw man
@@YumiSparkles Is that seriously the order? Eesh, that's kinda rude. IMO, it should've been Growth, Multiply, Invisibility so as to scale up the difficulty gradually which was what I THOUGHT that boss fight was going for as the game progressed
@@mastagrowott8022 Multiply is more challenging and engaging than invisibility, so it fits the final Klungo fight much better.
19:53 "I can poop Quietly Jon!"
So far my favorite out of context moment
That’s Jon’s wife for everybody
@@PrincessSunnyoftheSandWings …she’d get along very well with Emile.
@@TrinityCore60 She knows Emile
I nearly choked on my drink at the end there from laughing. You two are freaking golden together!
This is exactly how I expected Lucah would react to Humba Wumba
Even though I said “I’m through”,
Rhyming’s so much fun to do.
Humba’s here for changing form,
And the method’s not the norm.
Back to Xbox for this run,
With high frame-rates for more fun.
Now this will be swift to do,
Don’t forget that you can poo.
@Lucas The Phantom Thief Maybe it’s because there’s little to no rhyming in this game, especially proper rhymes from Jamjars in the Xbox version, so I decided to go all in on the rhymes for this LP. Glad to know it’s appreciated!
It’s always snowing on Mount Fuji
Finally playing a version that isn't as old as Lucah is!
You're giving the game not enough credit, Reese is older than that :P
@@Anko3342 Oh I know, technically I'm as old as Banjo as well! (1990 kid)
@@KBABZ Same here lol
At least Reese takes it in stride.
And Jon is also older than Banjo Tooie N64.
I mean, I'm younger than Lucah, and you have to go back to the original Super Mario Bros era to find games older than me. I'm older than the NES, and she's older then the Famicom.
Yet she looks like she could be half my age.
31:36 A nutshell illustration of the Jon/Lucah dynamic.
Oh man, its so good seeing Lucah's goofiness shine through. Also. Yeah. None of the magician characters aged well, huh?
What d'ya mean? She even has jiggle physics. She aged fine. (I jest, they aged like milk)
@@emiwisp9277 and not even into cheese!
Eh, I don't see how they're any worse than something like Gobi's Valley being stereotypically Egyptian or Grunty being a stereotypical witch (which is based on a lot of European cultural history, such as Wiccan).
These are cartoon games, so they mainly just use aspects like cultural images as inspiration for fantastical elements, not as a representation of those cultures in reality. They're just there for flavour, having the same depth as most other characters and concepts presented throughout the games, so there's no reason to align them with real-world issues if they're not supposed to have any realistic basis beyond imagery.
Plus, neither Mumbo nor Humba are defined by stereotypes in personality, only their powers and presentation, while their humour and pride in their craft come from who they are rather than what they are. So I don't see any negative implications for these depictions if they're just neutral elements.
@@joshuareesor1756 There is indeed a difference between a character being a stereotype in a malicious way and the stereotype just… being there. The magician characters in Banjo-Kazooie don’t feel offensive or out of place because everything else is very cartoonish and exaggerated.
I feel like Humba aged worse than Mumbo, because at least he's not a visibly human character, and also somewhat fits the world. She's just straight up a racist parody stapled into this fictional island that has nothing to do with the US. She got better in Nuts and Bolts, but by then...
If they dig Humba Wumba now, just wait 'til they find her in Terrydactyland!
Jon was really awesome this video. I snickered like a Cheshire cat when Lucah kept running past the big doors at the start of the level. When Jon says "Turn around" and then "Turn... Keep turning." I nearly busted a gut chuckling. That and the final scene at Wumba's absolutely slew me.
Lucah: Jon would totally do a thing like this.
Jon: Would I?
Lucah: How do you zoom? ¤wheezes with laughter¤ Jon? How do you zoom?
Jon: I know how. So... You know... W-why would I need to say out loud how to do that?
Me: There's logic in what he says!^w^
I will openly admit: never in my life have I beheld a playthrough of something that is so excruciatingly painful... and yet so hilariously entertaining at the same time.
Like, I mean this with every fiber of respect in my being: Lucah legit has had NO idea what anything does or where anything is at any point since Episode 1, and it's somehow the funniest shit.
Now I’m imagining Jon and Lucah as an Amazing Race team and wondering how many instances of “walking away while the camera zooms in on what they’re looking for” would happen because of them.
And the ending reveals the real reason why Lucah switched to the HD version
Another thing that the Xbox version screws up is Jamjars’ rhymes but hey least Lucah is more familiar with the controls so it’s fine
It's also midi audio in this one.
Hint and tips 4. Small hunt today. Sneaking is rarely used in this game. I want to say 2x and both are in this level. Take it slow and if you need to move left or right I suggest moving the camera instead of banjo. If you are moving forward and the the camera is behind banjo, he will go forward where the camera is facing. Can be useful if you aren’t walking the way you originally thought. It can be easy to move too fast when trying to move the control stick left or right even if it’s just by a small amount
Humba Wumba more like Humina Wumina awooga honk honk pant pant (smacks head with mallet) choo-chooooooo
Lucahjin giving people *exactly* what they came for in the last few minutes of this episode.
"A lot of people said 'This is not how I remember it being' despite being exactly the same as what it was."
Ah, nostalgia goggles. An ironclad force of falsehoods.
Omfg I have having so much fun watching you two play this so far! It's been the highlight of my days at work so far.
My day is saved and my enjoyment is immeasurable.
20:00 20:17 very oddly specific anecdote about gosh awful carry/escort quests
I’ve been waiting to see how Lucah would react to Humba Wumba and it was everything and more.
I'm glad you seem to be having fun with this Lucah, thank you for everything that you do! And thank you Jon for being a great guide for Lucah!
I grew up with the n64 version of both these games. I was 13 when I beat this one but it was rough. As soon as I beat it I threw up on the floor. That's how badly this game stressed me out. Not trying to scare you or anything.
Holy shit you should try getting 101% in DK64 if you think this was tough
(Canary Mary 2 is a bitch though for sure)
@@roddydykes7053 I never found Canary Mary 2 that difficult. All I did was stay behind her until the last stretch and her rubber-banding didn't act up.
Fun fact: When I first played this game (and even several playthroughs after) I didn't know that you could tiptoe through the red stuff to sneak past Unga Bunga. What I did was jump to the fire and try to land on the very edge so I wouldn't get burned (which was easier said than done), and then I'd do another jump to get to the idol.
Something tells me the game never intended me to do it that way XD
That’s actually how I first did it too. Kids are extremely adept at coming up with novel solutions in old video games lol
I figured out the tip-toe mechanic for the big snake though, but that is another one you can skip with a well-timed jump/beak buster
@@roddydykes7053 Lol for the snake, I used an item that Lucah hasn't seen yet (the ability you learn in the Wasteland area). If you shoot it right on top of the jiggy, you'll get it before the snake can wake up
I was surprised you did the original version at first, but I didn't mind. But the slowdown would have been not so fun for Lucah in the later levels I think. But however you decide to play, I'm enjoying this no matter what.
I dunno what people who said "it's not how I remember" were on about. Seemed legit to me.
Hi Jon and Lucah! Its my birthday and this is a great gift since I'm stuck quarantining, thank you so much!
8:21 Death Dirt, the estranged cousin of Death Water
I forgot about Humba Wumba until now. But Lucah's reaction to her is... about what I would've expected.
I can never not see the Glowbo creatures as similar to Tootie.
Most folks: Oof, offensive stereotypes.
Lucah: BIG ANIME T I D D I E S!
Legit, my first reaction to Humba Wumba.
Wait until Mrs. Boggy
@@Leopoldshark Wahey
I'm not sure if this helps but for me, press both triggers to enter talon trot, both triggers should be mapped to Crouch. This is assuming the controller is like, working 100% and nothing's wrong and all. Could be wrong but that's how I'm able to do it reliably.
Also since your on XBOX, while idk if it's been a thing but if you need since Jon is co-com, you have access to a Jiggy hint menu under Help and Options in the pause menu. It's vaguely helpful, literally all of them are like Mario 64 Star names that you kinda have to assume what they're referring to.
Can I just say, I'm grateful for the switch to HD for one really stupid reason. For whatever reason, the N64 captured footage defaulted to streaming at 144p on my phone. And I just didn't notice for the first two episodes? I just thought the OG game was really, REALLY crunchy...
This happened to me last episode and I barely noticed lol
I forgot how much I loved watching Lucah faf around in the first game!
Well, that makes thing even in this world. 3 Jiggies gotten by Jon and 3 gotten by Lucah. And apparently a new waifu for Lucah too? She not the only one, people, let’s be real.
This is going to be the greatest playthrough of this game ever.
so an interesting thing about jam jars. on the N64 version he actually rhymes and the buttons were part of it. while he still does it on the Xbox version, some of them will be off due to the xbox controller.
Okay now I'm *really* going to get this mixed up with the TRG playthrough, looking forward to that later. Still though, the Xbox version really does look better.
trg current playthrough i s banjo kazooie actually
@@diversitydiversity-r8n I know, I was more talking about the visuals
Times when I see play throughs like this, I can't help but feel that this is Rare trying to see what they could get away with, before making a game like Conker's Bad Fur Day.
I'm pretty sure that the way you had hooked up the N64 removed the antialiasing. I've seen speedrunners playing the N64 versions these Rare games, and they did not look remotely this bad.
I literally typed "banjo tooie N64 longplay" into TH-cam's search engine, and the first video looked remarkably better. And that's still on an LCD--most of us played on an CRT.
Probably found someone emulating it.
@@davidmcgill1000 It's pretty obvious when something was originally a lower resolution than the video. The polygon lines are much fuzzier.
The real N64 has antialiasing. It's not the best, but it exists. So if you see a video without antialiasing, then that is not how the original N64 looked.
Jon! Even though you are not going to do the N64 version, I would love if you show off the framerate at Hailfire Peaks when you are flying around on the lava side. Its utterly disastrous, but something I feel people underestimate when it comes to the see the improvement with the port to Xbox
I'm having so much fun with this LP so far
The old videos definitely looked like how i remember. But the 360 one is definitely easier on the eyes
ngl, that comment at teh start of everyone saying "this isn't what it looked like when I was a kid" reminds me of that one New Frame Plus video where he was doing sonic game animations and everyone was saying he should have recorded the Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure, only for him to personally reply to every comment to confirm that it was, in fact, the Dreamcast version
28:30 It's been a couple weeks, you're sick, you're using a completely different controller, this is a different save file, you didn't grow up playing 3D platformers, and this may slightly impact your gameplay on this channel where you normally speedrun games to absolute perfection!?! I, as a long time Lucahjin viewer am shocked and appalled. APPALLED MADAM. I wish to file a complaint about this free content and entertainment. Now, where shall I lodge it?
*Waggles eyebrows.*
EXACTLY.
Mom you're literally doing great! Hahah Banjo-Kazooie was a complicated game just because of the controls but this one has the controls, backtracking, inter-world shenanigans, AND the puzzles can be crazy! Try not to be stressed and just enjoy the game! I really think you'll like it!
Ah yes, zooming in those bahunkadonkaroos... IN HD!
I don't get it people complaining about the framerate, as I only have played the N64 version it felt excactly right for me.
I really hope Rare/Microsoft eventually puts the HD versions of these two games on other platforms. I want them on Steam so bad.
I know right i would love to play it on steam.
To answer the cheat question, similar to the first game, any cheats acquired by cheato are fair game aswell as any you discover legitimately, with the exception of any cheats acquired from 3rd partys such as Nintendo power or cheat code sites ( again similar to the first game, the cosmetic cheats are fair game )
She walks up to a stone.
Stone is speaking gibberish.
Her reply: I'm sorry, I don't speak French
Love me some BanJON and KaLUCie
Wouldn't BanJON and KaREESEie make more sense (assuming I spelled Reese's name right? I might be odd but I have a legit easier time spelling Lucah than I do Reese sometimes but idk why that is for the life of me XD) than BanJON and KaLUCie?
This episode: Literally several characters- "Careful! This is a family game!' Me- *is too busy lmao-ing while having flashbacks to Mario Party 1 on TRG when Jon said nearly the same exact thing to Tim during a mini-game as part of a sketch to pay attention to all the clearly NON-family parts in the episode* XD but in all seriousness for the console transistion this came out pretty good. And if this chaos is Jon recording with Lucah, I can only imagine how far multiplied it would be if it had been a recording with them PLUS Emile and possibly Tom and Tim bc literally why the hell not? XD But nah for real good episode.
Lucah the second she grabs an N64 controller: I have forgotten everything, including my own name. I am deaf, blind, and my arms and legs have fallen off.
"How do I zoom"
Idk why there's just something about that XD
To answer your question, the buttons on the Xbox One controller are still color coded, just with the letters within the botton being colored rather than the whole button.
One of the things that bothers me about that stealth gimmick is that the guy who kicks you out seems like he can be handled with relative ease if you were allowed to fight him. At least when it's in something like a modern Zelda game, you're getting blasted by supernatural forces well beyond your power.
That is one
Big. Tiddied. Videogame. WAIFU!!!
Oh, and Humba Wumba was pretty cool too lol. Loving this playthrough so far!
Now Lucah won't be spooked by the loading times.
Wait, what? Loading times are most certainly slower on xbox 360 than on n64, it's the framerate and resolution that were improved for this version
@@jankington216 So when the game freezes briefly to load cutscenes, it isn't loading?
Imagine saying, "This isn't how I remember it," to the original 64 version...
Right?
Aw that’s a huge shame, though understandable. I really enjoy the N64 version.
Honestly the graphics weren’t bothering me so much as the framerate was. I’m very grateful that the Xbox version has a better framerate.
Personally I got so used to the lower frame rate in wide open sections (like Jinjo Village) that seeing it in this Banjo-Kazooie-esque way is surprisingly unsettling
Omg this looks so clean I love it
SERIOUSLY THANK YOU FOR PLAYING THIS
So, as far as I know, infinite air is connected to infinite health which is a "banned" glitch on the Xbox version. However, there are in-game ways to get more air that isn't even connected to cheato (and even infinite in certain situations) so I wouldn't worry about that.
Don't worry about getting lost, it's a big game and it's meant to be taken in and explored slowly. In every single world, you cannot get everything your first time and have to come back. So you could go back to the prison compound with the Grip Grab now, but it might make more sense to do it when you have more moves later on. Completely your call, that's the freedom about this game. In the first game it was very important to get everything in a world before leaving, this time, as long as you have the moves and all the notes, you should be fine. If you wanted to, in Episode 5, you could start World 2.
And again, don't worry about getting lost! I am saying this in advance of World 2 in particular, which has a much less defined "beginning" than this world does. The warp points are your friends, and there is usually always something you can do.
will admit this version is a lot easier on the eyes. I don't know if its how you where recording it or of the retron messing up, but damn the first three episodes looked really bad. like, bitty, painful and without the anti-aliasing. hopefully the xbox controls will not cause any issues going forward
Huh. Personally, I didn't really notice any difference.
The best thought process for this game is:
Pretend Banjo-Tooie is a 3D Metroidvania. Backtracking is often and encouraged.
Seeing the difference between the two is pretty night and day, and after seeing the performance of the original vs the HD it really makes me realize that some things are better in our memories than they actually might be in reality. Either way, hope the rest of the game will be smooth sailing now for ya, Lucah.
I'm wondering if playing on CRT TVs also had an effect on the quality.
The Xbox version really does look nicer, glad we're using this version, especially since Jon got to bring up some stuff like randomized Jinjos per playthrough and the oddity of Gigi/GG only being able to kick into the wall to get that one Jinjo in the N64 version.
Transforming's back, too? There's seriously a lot jam-packed into this game. I wonder how many levels there are...
just cause Mumbo's not doing it anymore doesn'tmean we don't gottransformations. And also the levels in this game are REALLY creative and interestesing comapred to the original game, where the msot original level in terms of theme was Clanker's cavern and that's mostly because of Clanker himself being the level's setpiece.
"This is not how I remember it being" -- I know whose channel I'm on, but am _I_ getting old? I guess I'm asking as someone who grew up with the N64 and only played the N64 version of the Banjo games :P (I enjoyed Banjo-Tooie on the N64, though there are very noticeable moments where the game pushes the N64 really hard)
Ah yes, Xbox controllers with buttons of the same color with the color-coding for ants. I have one too (it works better than my previous one yay). Feel like I'm just ready for games normalizing showing off stuff like "press the bottom face button", which _has_ been happening in games here and there (like I see the Switch doing it).
I 100% dont remember it being that bad at all, the first 3 episodes I cant even watch, Im positive either a setting was changed or the tv was weird as I dont recall playing at 240p
Right?
Ok so I know this has nothing to do with this video, but I wanted to share with you a game from the DS that I played as a kid. It's the first game I had ever owned. It's called Drawn To Life. It's a platforming game with an amazing story. I had actually owned the sequel to the first game and played it first, Drawn To Life: The Next Chapter. I remember crying my heart out from the ending. It's a very emotional game with an amazing story. I'd say it's very very similar to Super Paper Mario. I haven't played all of the first game so I can't say if it's important to the story of the second game. However, I will say the second game's story is very drawn out and does have plot twists and all the like. If you considered playing it I would be so happy. It was really just a fantastic game from my childhood.
Omg I just realized they made a third game/sequel for the Switch. This series is so dear to my heart 🥲
Lucah has noticed the chest
Redacted job had
Man this is off to a Rocky (or in this case Stony) start, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of the later version soon. And even then, boy am I still loving every minute
If you run out of air bubbles either underwater or in the toxic air you won’t die, you’ll just take damage until you run out of energy.
When you talk to the Stony near Wumba's Wigwam, you'll hear something really funny. I recommend talking to it at least once.
And by funny you probably mean either 'very dirty' OR 'very likely to get either Jon or Lucah in trouble' if NOT both. Sounds about right XD
After that ending, I absolutely can't wait for TD land lol
Omggg this just popped up in my notifications it’s been so long since I’ve seen one of your videos!!! I’m happy I made it back here
Just as I had hoped, Lucahjin finally meets Humba Wumba.
Welcome to "you can't do this yet". My name is plot progression, and ill be your server tonight.
Was starting to worry Lucah wouldn't find Wumba this episode. This is gonna be a great LP
so as a kid...it took me 20 attempts AT LEAST to sneak over the sticks...and i was always confused about how banjo doesnt hold the gold anymore after leaving unga bungas cave. so i kept going back. big oversight in game design.
I am four minutes in, Lucah has walked in the wrong direction and she's got one health thanks to the button press health thing. Oh, I am in for a chaotic treat 🤣
I would give Lucah slack but I don't have any pants
Lol
oh also did anyone hear iggling when they got closer to humba wumba's hut?
My eyes are pleased. 😄
Real quick, while there is no PERMANENT way to kill the dart statues, you CAN stun them for awhile by hitting the button on their forehead. You'll know you've done it when they spin around.
Talk to the stony in Jade Snake Grove by Humba's for a jab at Kazooie.
The Xbox Version of Banjo-Tooie
Lucah: Oh thank goodness
I always give Lucah slack. And I'm sure I'm not alone feeling that
There's really only one or two places where infinite air would be helpful, but I'll tell you now, the water level isn't one of them. You don't have to worry about drowning in the water level, as odd as its sounds, and you'll know why when you get there.
Also, no, this game sure as hell isn't a family game. You'll see later, Tooie got away with a lot of shit it really shouldn't have.
Oh, and I crank up the gamma to watch these videos. It is weird it was messed up, though. Is it possibly something to do with your capture setup?
