Introducing Nritya Sash Studio from Whitby, Ontario, a distinguished dance school dedicated to celebrating and spreading the rich traditional culture of Odisha through its vibrant dance forms. Specializing in the Late Guru Deba Prasad Das style of Odissi dance, we are proud to be the only school in Canada embracing this unique gharana.
This year they will present the lively Sambalpuri dance, a dynamic folk dance from Odisha known for its colorful costumes, graceful movements, and rhythmic music that depicts themes from nature and everyday life. Led by our dedicated director, Sashwati, who is deeply connected to Oriya culture, our performers are passionate about representing their heritage. Despite their busy lives, they view performing as a cherished honor, celebrating Oriya traditions with joy, dedication, and pride.
For the event, we will showcase our talent through performances set to three culturally rich songs:
Ranagabati Ranagabati - A classic song by Padma Shri awardees Krishna Patel and Jitendra Haripal, emblematic of Odisha's rich cultural fabric and a staple in cultural celebrations.
Gunjura Gunja - A festive song encapsulating the essence of summer festivities in Odisha, highlighting community spirit and the simple pleasures of life.
Ame Sambalapuria Phula Re - This song joyously celebrates the traditional Sambalpuri attire, showcasing the beauty of our cultural dress and the vibrancy of our heritage.
At Nritya Sash Studio, they aim to not just perform but to kindle an appreciation for the diverse cultural landscape of Odisha through the expressive art of dance.
