    Thanks man, really helpful. It's simple though but most of the developers knows the struggle behind it as It's the basic thing the user wants in the report.

    I wanted the second date slicer you have created. but my requirements is that whenever a new user open the report he should always get the max date from the table. how can I accomplish that?

    Hi. Can you please let me know if I can do the same for the start date to select it to a default value every week? The end date will be the most recent data and the start date will be 2 weeks ahead of it. But I should be able to see previous weeks also in the slicer. Thanks!

      When using a between format on a date slicer pbi does not automatically advance the slicer, upon opening the report, to max date.

    Brother 1 question.
    I've been grappling with a bit of a challenge in Power BI, specifically regarding date filtering, and I was hoping to get some advice.
    Here's the scenario: I've set up a "Date" table in Power BI that spans from January 1, 2000, to January 1, 2030. Now, what I'm aiming for is to have a date slicer or filter on my dashboard that automatically defaults to the current week, meaning from the first day of the week through the last. For instance, today is March 15, 2024, so ideally, the slicer should default to March 11, 2024, through March 17, 2024.
    However, here's the kicker: I also want users to have the flexibility to select dates outside of the current week if they need to analyze data over a longer period. So while the default setting should always be the current week, users should be able to freely adjust the slicer to their desired timeframe.
    I've been tinkering around with Power BI, but it seems like achieving this functionality isn't as straightforward as I initially thought. It feels like Power BI might not be as intuitive in this particular area.
    If anyone has any tips or suggestions on the easiest way to tackle this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

      Create a column named current week indicator in date table. 1 for current week every week and 0 for others.
      Drag dateslicer on the visual and on the filter pane. Add the current week filter. Set value = 1.
      This gets the visual set for current week. How about create a new page or bookmark. But, for the other page/bookmark. Set current column indicator value both 1 and 0 meaning all dates.
      You can now add a small button or icon in each page indicating users to switch between current week and all weeks.
      If you keep the visuals exactly the same, the transition would be smooth as well.

      On top of my head, it sounds tricky. But, why not try right? I am thinking of an idea if we could create a calculated column in a date table like if date is today or greater than today then get the date which leaves past dates as blanks. But, not sure if this will be any use. Will need to jump on my computer and let you know 😃 keep this tricky questions coming

      U can disable that option, which is don't allow user to save the filter settings. It will be in setting of the report.

    Thanks a lot !! Hope this works for my case too - I have to have previous week (mon to sun) as default date and every week it should automatically change. I have a new column in date table that shows me previous week dates alone. So what I do is on my date slice I have this filter applied (to show only previous week). Currently I notice that the filter is correctly changing but my date slicer is still set on the date on which I have published the report. If I manually clear the slicer it will start showing correct values. I have tried bookmark too but some how to date is okay but from date is not changing.
    Let me delete the slicer create a new one without touching dates
    🤞hope it works

      Hey did you you use Calendar function to create calendar table?
      Make sure you put Today() as the end date.
      Create calendar table to your table of interest and input dates from calendar table in the date slicer.

    Hi, I want the start day should be three days before today and the end date should be the current date as the default date slicer. How can I achieve it for the start date?

    • @powerbitutorialforbeginners
      @powerbitutorialforbeginners  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mate,
      There is a lot of way to achieve this but, the most simple one would be to drag the date column to filter pane. Select slicer and drag and drop date column to filter pane. Select relative date instead of basic filtering from drop-down. In the relative date select in the last _ days option. Input 3 for 3 days.

    This is not the solution, why user doesn't change the slicer dates. If we do not touch the slicer then what is the point of adding slicer in the report.

  • @MichaelDoig
    @MichaelDoig 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Your first date is still defaulting to the absolute minimum date. It could be 20 years, meaning 20 years of data trying to populate by default. We also need to set the default START date to some value, such as last 7/30/60 days.

    • @powerbitutorialforbeginners
      @powerbitutorialforbeginners  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. Absolutely. The best way is to filter the dataset in power query for required date and create a calendar table based on minimum value of the table and maximum date value of the table.
      As Calendar(min(table[date]), Max[table[date]))
