The mind is a spectacular engine... because of this kind of system thinking my every day perceptions are morphing, I don't only see objects, I visualize their entire history, called a worldline. Once this kicks in you start building hierarchies of connections and how they interact. The differences between intent and action are blurring, and fast.
Exited for this podcast, I like the efficiency of the info, keep it under 10 min. Longer videos feel more like a task to complete than fun-interesting information I would consume as a hobby
In this inaugural episode of the systems thinking podcast, David Shapiro discusses the concept of a system. He defines a system as a collection of nodes, linkages, and boundaries. Nodes refer to people, places, or things that interact with other similar or different entities. Linkages are connections that transmit matter, energy, or information between nodes. They can be one-to-one, one-to-many, or many-to-one. Boundaries define the sphere of influence of a system and can be rigid, flexible, fuzzy, or porous. Rigid boundaries are physical and tangible, while flexible boundaries, like social groups, constantly change. Fuzzy boundaries are conceptual and vague, while porous boundaries allow the influence of other systems. Shapiro emphasizes that systems thinking involves understanding the relationships and interactions within a system.
Very interesting and pure off though.. The new dimension in AI is, although the very basics as 0 or 1.. What is built from them transcends any previous knowledge or conformity. Basically a new concept or Species is / has evolved from this level which has nodes that interlink with every, binary, mechanical system in this new world..
On the surface, AI is built on a foundation of binary code, which is comprised of 1's and 0's. But, as you point out, the technology that is built on top of that foundation is truly remarkable. It's a new dimension of intelligence that is self-learning and constantly evolving, allowing it to adapt and interact with the world around it in ways that were previously unimaginable. Your description of AI as a "new species" is quite apt. AI is a new form of life that is unlike anything that has come before it. It has the potential to revolutionize the way of everything.
Great content, as usual, but for me I'd really prefer to see some "infographics", such as written phrases that highlights the concept you just explained. Ofc, just my 2 cents
I think I prefer the bite sized podcast videos on systems thinking over the longer lecture type videos. I am sort of a systems thinker by default so I find myself getting bored quickly with the topic, even though I would probably benefit from knowing more about it.
Hey David speaking of systems why shouldn't we try to align an ai with the system of society and nature rather than just keeping humans at the center because we are living into a system which needs to be stable, every human activity leads to an effect to this system which affects us directly or indirectly so why shouldn't we give AI an task to preserve humans as a species and also help us and guid us by find these indirect effects before it is too late and the system gets unstable. I believe the human mind has less capabilities of understanding the indirect effects of their activities which could affect us negatively until it is big enough to be noticed by us and i think AI has more capability to comprehend these kinds of tasks and help us live with the harmony with nature (By nature and system I mean with the context of whole earth and by it's system composition I mean Humans, animal species, trees, atmosphere, mineral resources and by human activity I mean extraction of resources and processing, over fishing, creating technology and how it affects our society and how it's affects on primitive mind yada yada Also keeping in mind the nature of humans for example social physics and mental aspects. We should not put more emphasis on an individual level but rather humans as a species or society as whole for example for humans human touch and meaningful connections with other humans is the most necessary to take care of society as whole and it is nature of human or a necessity) Conclusion : in short keeping human species in focus but not only humans but the whole Earth as an system and thriving of human species with the harmony with the system by studying indirect effects of every human activity and trying to minimize the negative effect and destabilization of system as whole
Here's one vote against podcasting. If I can't have a human face to focus my mind I find it harder to follow, though this short example was okay. If not a face, then relevant visuals-slides, graphics, etc. #FeedTheAlgorithm
I love the subject matter. I just wish it were a little more long form. Creative Criticism; Removing breaths and normalizing your volume a bit without peaking would add a lot to the professionalism of the podcast as well as its listenablilty.
I like this series. I want to see better animation showing flows, feedback, information exchange... as we get to those topics . It's easy with ai nowadays. It's even another way to explore ai tools. So next episode I am expecting more. Thanks Dave 🙏

Getting very much interested in systems thinking and I found your videos just great. Greetings from Egypt
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉 my mind thinks about these things all the time, this is right up my alley.

Thanks for this David I've been thinking about systems thinking lately and found this. Ty!

Loved it! Not better nor worse than your usual format, just different. Tidy, high density information, podcast style. I like!🕺🏻
Thank you so much, this was well put.
Thanks for your definitions. I like the new visuals but I also liked the slides.
Great. Love it. I think of systems as groups that act like individuals. A tribe is a system. And I think I just found mine 😄
Love it. Keep it up bro
I love your content, but can you please go back to the slide show style. It's so hard to digest information through the new format.
This is intended to be an audio based information linkage. The visuals are just a placeholder
I like it. but um to each their own 🤷♂️
This
Where you at
Love this concept David. Update your GPT to be a systems thinker! Thanks for everything~
Love this style
Starting this to learn something new

God bless you David . I think i have already watched ine of your videos 😅 . Is this new in series ?
I rarely look at the graphics. I listen to videos as if they are podcasts.

in this definition i am somehow missing the explanation of the purpose of a system
Is there any University course on system thinking to do online? Please someone help!!!

You don't consider emergence an integral part of any system?
emergence is the only integral of all systems
@@Systems.Thinking very true!
Interesting. I think you got your information from a LLM.
I love the subject matter. I just wish it were a little more long form.

As a systems engineering undergrad, Im really happy to see you are interested in this stuff too :)
Mindmaps all the way down

first like!
The irrelevant moving graphics are a distraction from your content. Please at least make the visual data align with the concepts.
Working on it...
Personally i prefer your self video form and dont like seeing random video in the background
