Every shecter I have purchased had electronic issues! Silver mountain, the switch was just barley touching the foil on the electronics cover, and when I would switch to the neck pick up, it would short out. Balsac The pick up selector switch would short out because it was not making contact. i have to bend it back every couple of months. Also the Bridge pick up what cut out do to a wiring issue. I just purchased a reaper FR6 and the first one I received the neck pick up had a very weak signal and the frets were actually sticking out of the fret board cutting into my fingers So I sent that one back and got a replacement, and the pick ups in the replacement sound distorted kinda like a blow speaker behind it (Yes, I tried different cables, guitars, cabs and amps. It's the guitar) And when I tried to remove the electronics, cover all the wood around the electronics cover chipped off due to it being in there so tight. Glen, how do you get under $500 guitars from shecter that are good but I spend $1000+ and get shit.
So here's an odd factoid about Schecter... for some reason their lower end guitars are BETTER than their mid tier or high end stuff. My main Schecter collection (I have more than these three but these are the ones I've owned the longest and regularly use) includes a C-7 SLS Elite ($1500), a C-1 FR-S Apocalypse ($1189), and a C-6 Deluxe ($350). The C-7 has an issue at the nut on the G string and the neck pickup doesn't work, the Apocalypse has been my problem child for six years with various electronics and hardware problems, but the C-6 Deluxe (my first electric guitar mind you) has been completely rock solid with absolutely no issues whatsoever. It's been modded out of preference, rather than necessity, whereas the other two still need or have needed to be modded just to make them function fully. The unfortunate thing about Schecter, as much as I do love their instruments is that you're actually better off buying their cheaper, more boring instruments than their more high end ones with actual interesting features. I don't know quite how they manage this, but if you want a quality Schecter guitar, buy from their cheaper lineup.
I got a deal on a Schecter E-1 built at World Music in Korea that is mahogany and ebony... and lefty and its incredible....i didnt even want short scale but its now my main player 😂 wanted a lefty Explorer for almost 20 years and Schecter came through
I had the 7 string version as my first 7 string! It was really damn good and this was back in 2018. I haved definitely moved on but I'll always recommend this model :)
Could you do a review of the Welch guitars Les Paul? I bought one recently for $350 and I absolutely love it. Also they are discontinued so it’s pretty hard to find but definitely worth it
I have one in the blue and green color with black hardware. Best under $500? Try $300. Guitar Center often puts these on sale and mine was $279. I’m no beginner but the neck felt so good I grabbed it. I added CTS pots and a Switchcraft style toggle and it is just great.
CLEARLY you need some $1k pickups and some Mullard Tubes. I mean...really...🤣🤣🤣🤣 For a point of reference, my farts smell like slightly chilled Chardonnay.
I bought a Jackson s22 dinky for 280 Canadian bucks. (After yen exchange rate, I live in Japan) and man. It just says “Jackson” on the headstock and is an wicked guitar for the money. I had a bunch of Gibson’s and some fenders in the past but I’m just hanging on to my one modded 2014 melody maker now (still my fav guitar) and sold the rest. Been looking for more reasonable alternatives for the last few years. I’ll be looking at Schecter also. Thanks Glen!
Ah right. Mojotones. I've been interested in the BV25m, but currently I'm already loving my Celestion EVH + Greenback in X-Pattern 4x12. I know you like the EVHs, but have you tried blending them with GBs? I love the mix a lot. You get the aggression of the Reissue Greenbacks and the smoothness of the EVH/Heritage GBs
Sounds great. I love both of my Schecter guitars: a 7-string Hellraiser FR S and my Hellraiser Hybrid FR S. Granted, both are more on the spendy side, but they’re great to play and the fit & finish are second to none. I think they offer a lot at what ever price point one is looking at…especially hard tails. (I tend to steer clear of less expensive guitars with Floyd Rose type terms. Not a fan of the Specials.) FWIW, they’re part of my collection of 45 guitars…everything from sub $500 to $3000+. My next bass will probably be a Schecter. Very easy to recommend that brand.
Would be awesome to see you do a comparison between one of these guitars and an SGR. I work at a shop that sells both and I notice the SGRs sound slightly muddy (obviously I can’t fully A-B them). Still great quality and for $349CAD the SGRs are wicked and come in wicked styles…way cooler then beginner guitars when I was a kid 🤘
Great video Glenn!!! Love your channel and everything you do, very educational and entertaining!! Been watching your channel for a long time. Keep up the great work. Always gets me to practice more after watching your vids!!!
Hey Glen, try out a new Firefly guitar, I think you’ll be impressed on ball end stainless frets, locking tuners ,Canadian roasted neck and more for $169.91 US! I my fifth semi hollow strat style ebony with gold hardware and I think it’s a Bigsby tremelo. The burst sold out the first day!
I've had two Schecter basses over the last 15 years. last one was 5 or 6 years ago. Both were very well made I wish I still had the Stargazer. The other one I can't remember the model name, but I just didn't care for the neck for some reason.
Nicely done, Glenn! Keep doin' what you're doin' with your practice - it's working. Also, I've always enjoyed playing Schecter guitars. I LOVE the diamond series bass that I have, and even recently bought a used, budget C-6 guitar and very much enjoyed plaing it. It needs just a little bit of fret filing, but it's a 2012 model and some wood shrinkage is to be expected.
Hey Glenn, checkout the Godin Session HT"Pro". They have multiple Session models but the "HT Pro" is setup for heavy rock/metal. The regular HT(non pro) doesn't have Seymour Duncan pickups FYI You can likely rent one from Long and McQuade for $30 lol 😆 Made in canada comes loaded with seymour duncan pickups (59, lace golds) for $1000 USD or $1350 CDN. Fit and finish is premium IMO(PRS quality)
I recall reading an article about a CEO of a small airline company from Japan who's salary was less than the average pilot because they felt they didn't need any more than that to live on.
Hey Glenn, can you make a video about amp and speaker tone combination like brite amp and dark speaker versus dark speaker and brite amp? Maybe mic selection for ones?
As a lefty, Schecter has become my go-to brand. No one has the same selection of LH models they do it seems. I got my first one (C6 Plus) a couple of years ago and just got my Omen Elite 7-string last month. Both are fantastic. Next one will be a green one I call the Shrekter.
I almost bought the C6 but the demo.models had some fit issues (pickup alignment) so I stepped up to the Demon and fkn love that guitar. Took some time to get used to the jumbo frets, kept bending and pushing the strings around but I have lightened up my hands .
You should check out the new 7 string Jackson js22 Rhoads or King V. I tried out the Rhoads and had low expectations at first, but the fretwork and the setup was already perfect, and it's only $370 here in Canada! Instantly had to put it on layaway.
I disagree on the switch. Maybe having a little recessed area like the Demon would help some for your style of plaything. I love 3 way toggles in that exact location and can hardly ever find them for 7 strings with evertune bridges at a decent price generally speaking. I play with the guitar on my right leg and I play right handed with the neck horizontal. Plus I plant my pinky a lot, so being able to flick the switch at that spot is why I like it. Great review as usual though. I love my LTD-MH1001, and the the 2 gripes I have with it #2 is the blade. My #1 gripe is that I can't stand inline head stocks not being made with enough room to adjust the tuners when the bulbous ends line up. It's enough room for a tool and no more, which isn't practical for fine tuning. That's personally why I like 3x3 or 4x3 type head stocks, so when fine tuning my fingers can grip and not bump any other pegs, or having to grab them like my fingers are tongs.
Thank you for convincing me. My Mom gave me an acoustic sgr for my 13th birthday. AMAZING SOUND 👌 bends are insane for beinng an acoustic. Someone gave me an acoustic and the difference between the two is amazing. Been trying to decide which electric guitar to get and i was really debating a squire but this seems so much better and 399 isnt too much more for something I know is gonna have the range to play the disturbed and tool I want. Too bad guitar cases are so expensive though. Gig bags arent worth a fuck
Hey Glenn, I've noticed a little roominess in your tone using the Lewitt. I recently bought a Two notes torpedo CAB, do you think I should add a little bit of room reverb in my cab sims?
Honestly, I have that Schecter, and even though I've been going to my local guitar store every couple of days, I haven't found a neck I like better. Got mine used with an orange amp for waaay too cheap. Oh! Also, Henning did a review of this guitar... It was the first one I watched when I was looking at it!
Yes, I wish the guitar manufactures would move the controls away from the bridge so many nice guitars I’ve tried and would not buy because the controls are too close. I’ll never understand why.
I play SX, Agile, and Douglas guitars, sold by Rondomusic and made in South Korea. Build quality is good, they're great modding platforms, and they're better than all but one of the Ibanez I own.
Just a thought, you should try an American made Schecter and see if even they suck at pricing their American products. Looks like they are retailing for 2-5k or so.
I was just looking at 7 strings and comparing Schecter with Ibanez, Jackson, etc. I was pretty blown away by some of the features for the price. The closest comparison Jackson I could find cost $300 more and didn’t have stainless steel frets. I feel like schecter is really going hard to get past the monster energy stigma.
Have you looked into SBS Guitars? I think they’re more of a “Dad Rock” machine but I’m sure you could get it to chug, and I think they sell for $499-$599.
I got a Schecter Deluxe that was barely even $200 and it was awesome. They are great guitars and not just for beginners. I've been playing 40 years and loved it. I'll be getting another.
New subscriber here, thank you for doing a review of this axe. I am in the market for a Hellraiser non-FR model, as my chance to own one years ago slipped through my fingers. If you have done a review of that guitar, I would love to see it, as I am looking forward to grabbing one ASAP. Thanks for your humorous takes, and fuck off! LOL!!!
I am a huge fan of schecters. At some point in the future i will be getting another hard tail to replace my omen 6. Havent decided which to get yet. I also have an omen elite 6 fr (that i love....and hate because of the fr) and an omen extreme 4
Something I gotta say is your tones are always killer. Do you happen to have a tone pack for tonex or kemper? I'd love to get a capture of this tone you played today. (I know you hate kemper but I've had it since like 2018, long before I found your channel)
I was really excited to buy a Schecter guitar, but when I went to the store and tried out every model, the necks just felt off in my hands. It wasn't a deal-breaker, but it was enough to make me question my decision. So I went to another store and bought a new Jackson instead. The Jackson felt much better in my hands, so I was willing to spend the time and money to make it play and sound better. After all, for me, it's all about how a guitar feels in my hands. If I like the neck, I'm willing to spend the time and money to make it play and sound better.
Great video Glen I am a new subscriber I like your no bullshit approach great info I'm going to get an schecter or an Ibanez fireman can you give me any information on ignitor cabinets good bad ? Thanx glen
Learn slide guitar. Samantha Fish and others can play slide on a guitar neck bolted onto an oil can or cigar box. That's how forgiving slide is. Yes, slide can be used in metal. Side even works with old strings for you even cheaper players. I am mentioning this to say that any guitar can be salvageable so if you break off the head stock, have a warp in the neck, there are dead spots and frets are missing or worn you can still play slide on it,
0:57 in 1919 the dodge brothers of the dodge motor company sued Henry Ford. He’d posted record profits and wanted to share that wealth with the employees that had earned it. In return the dodge brothers claimed “excess profits are property of the shareholders”. Setting that precedent made it illegal to give employees such huge bonuses without backlash from shareholders
C’mon, there’s been over a hundred years to change that shit you can’t blame something that was passed over a century ago, unbelievable that you even think that
@@tommilitello198 “they’ve had over 100 years to change that” and they haven’t. So what’s your point?? We can actively watch how companies pursue record profits to appease share holders while the workers earning said profits get nothing. It’s most obvious with companies like Walmart and Amazon who hire the bare minimum amount of employees to be functional, works them to the bone, and pay them nothing. So we can totally blame share holder intervention as to why workers aren’t being properly compensated
Judging from recordings and reviews I've found online, the Greyhound is more my speed, for Mojotone. That said, I definitely like the new BV60N and BV60H more than I like a Vintage 30 or Creamback/Creamback Neo, from what I have heard so far. I still like my cheapo Seismic Audio Quake 12 just fine, and for non V30 speakers I find Eminence Guit-Fiddle, Swamp Thang, Tonker, etc, or just a plain old G12H-100's or their newer counterpart the G12K-100 do the trick, so I'll probably be sticking to Seismic, the Eminence usual suspects, or the G12H-100/G12K-100, especially for 2x12's and oversized 1x12's, tbh. For 4x12's, if I don't go with the Seismic, the BV60N would be a great option for live use to not kill my back!
String gauge is not universal, and surely with dependency on hand size either. What suits me might not suite the next person, it’s fine recommending but in this case hand size is actually the wrong reason.
Look Glen, Opeth's Damnation was primarily clean tones and is an amazing example of clean tones in metal. Damnation itself isn't heavy in the chug chug sense, but man is the album heavy in its theme and how the songs are delivered. Maybe that'll help with some perspective on clean tones?
I got a deal on a Schecter E-1 built at World Music in Korea that is mahogany and ebony... and lefty and its incredible....i didnt even want short scale but its now my main player 😂 wanted a lefty Explorer for almost 20 years and Schecter came through
I have a used Schecter Hellraiser. Best one I've ever owned, although I have never owned anything more than 800 quids.
I’ve been playing a schecter hellraiser 6 string for about 15 years.. it was maybe $600-$700 when I bought it I think? I love that thing.
😂😂😂😂😂👍
You mean Mulligan tubes?🤔
I bought a Jackson s22 dinky for 280 Canadian bucks. (After yen exchange rate, I live in Japan) and man. It just says “Jackson” on the headstock and is an wicked guitar for the money. I had a bunch of Gibson’s and some fenders in the past but I’m just hanging on to my one modded 2014 melody maker now (still my fav guitar) and sold the rest. Been looking for more reasonable alternatives for the last few years. I’ll be looking at Schecter also. Thanks Glen!
hey glenn do you have any tips for metal bands on their first tour in usa or in north america in general
Ah right.
I'd love to see you take a look at the C-6 Deluxe. That was my first electric guitar ever, and I'd love to know your thoughts on it
Sounds great.
Hi Glenn! Nice clean sound, but better to play with metronome.. will be better results. Nice review.
Hey Glenn, checkout the Godin Session HT"Pro". They have multiple Session models but the "HT Pro" is setup for heavy rock/metal. The regular HT(non pro) doesn't have Seymour Duncan pickups FYI
You can likely rent one from Long and McQuade for $30 lol 😆
Made in canada comes loaded with seymour duncan pickups (59, lace golds) for $1000 USD or $1350 CDN. Fit and finish is premium IMO(PRS quality)
I'm more of an acoustic player but I have a Schecter 12-string that I LOVE!!
However it WAS about a grand almost 10yrs ago.
Could you talk about the high end on a mix ?? No one is talking about it.. cymbals, hi hats, guitars and "air".. i think its very important on a mix!
I love my schecter. I got the Demon 6 and still had enough money to get an nice amp with it too.
I do question the longevity/parts/quality of very inexpensive guitars. How long before a knob, switch...whatever breaks?
But what if I don't want a boring Strat shape? Do they have anything affordable in V or Explorer shapes?
I almost bought the C6 but the demo.models had some fit issues (pickup alignment) so I stepped up to the Demon and fkn love that guitar. Took some time to get used to the jumbo frets, kept bending and pushing the strings around but I have lightened up my hands .
I've been looking @ Schecter. And why do they love to put the pickup switch so close to the bridge?
Speaking of Mojotone, i have that speaker paired with a heritage Greenback in my harley benton cab and it sounds great.
You should check out the new 7 string Jackson js22 Rhoads or King V. I tried out the Rhoads and had low expectations at first, but the fretwork and the setup was already perfect, and it's only $370 here in Canada! Instantly had to put it on layaway.
I still play my Schecter Omen I bought 18 years ago, today..
Bought one second hand a couple of years ago and is great (I'm not, but the guitar is). Very very similar to the one in the vid.
I’ve had my hellraiser for about 15 years and still love to play it.
I’ve got an idea for a future video. Demoing the guitar ola sends you when you perfect the cfh outro solo. 🤘
you should check out FGN guitars, they start at around 600 and are all made in Japan with amazing quality
Gig bags arent worth a fuck
nice , i had surgery today and a good ole shouty video by glenn is sure to cheeer me up
Can always take the tone knob out and move the pick up switch to there.
Could you do an entry level metal rig vs amp sim shoot out for 2024? Which would be better for recording and live shows
I play SX, Agile, and Douglas guitars, sold by Rondomusic and made in South Korea.
I have a solar V with evertune a jackson monarch pro and a fender Roadhouse deluxe and my Omen 6 is still my go too guitar.
Loved that you played Machine of Torment on that guitar Glenn! 🤘
My guy ranting early in the morning.
Well, this is how I wanna start my day.
This is how I end my day.
Thanks to you both!
This is my day
LOL that's what glenn should change his Stage Name to.
"Guy Ranting"
😂😂😂😂😂‼️
Have you looked into SBS Guitars? I think they’re more of a “Dad Rock” machine but I’m sure you could get it to chug, and I think they sell for $499-$599.
Thank you for turning me on to Schecter. What sayest thou about JS32Q DKA Hard Tail compared to the lower end Schecter?
I got a Schecter Deluxe that was barely even $200 and it was awesome. They are great guitars and not just for beginners. I've been playing 40 years and loved it. I'll be getting another.
Nice video. My niece and nephew would love this guitar.
Would love to see your review on the recent affordable PRS they released👍🏻
I have this same guitar in flat white. Love it!
Should review the Audio Assault plugins (unless I missed it already). Can get them cheap or with a $5 a month subscription.
Does the Solar have a crack on the fretboard yet? How long have you had it? Have any of your other Solar guitars have a crack on the fretboard yet?
Would love to see you review EART guitars they are just loaded for the price
Great video Glen I am a new subscriber I like your no bullshit approach great info I'm going to get an schecter or an Ibanez fireman can you give me any information on ignitor cabinets good bad ? Thanx glen
I’ve never heard of them tbh
@@SpectreSoundStudios thank you for answering me glen keep up the great work brother
I grabbed my 1st Schecter recently. Crimson red Demon 6, with active pickups. I love it. Its sexy and sounds great. Good value.
Wish I knew what it weighs. Also, ceramic pickups or....
I bought a schecter omen elite. Thing is amazing....sounds great and the action is great ! All around great guitar. Glad I bought it.
I hate when they put the pickup switch too close. Ibanez does it too, my favorite guitar and i can barely use the neck pickup
I couldn't help but start singing. 🤣
"25 years and my life is still, trying to get up that great big hill of hope... for a destination!"
glenn, with much love
I think you need thicker strings for your hands..
sounds weird but it helped me.
I'm a guitarist with bass player hands.
String gauge is not universal, and surely with dependency on hand size either.
What suits me might not suite the next person, it’s fine recommending but in this case hand size is actually the wrong reason.
Schecter necks are fantastic. Just the EMGs sound a bit weird to me.
Glenn, great playing. Seriously. Keep it up!
Not trying to give you grief but maybe some perspective?
