thanks, man been wanting to learn the DSR main glitches for a while for some casual races i like to do plus your voice knocks me out faster than stephen fry on the re-listen
I'm not a speedrunner but wow I didn't know that 99 Humanity meant about a 20% drop chance on that knight for the Black Knight Halberd. Usually just playing a "casual" playthrough (DS isn't casual though haha) and getting arguably the best weapon there at the start is awesome :D
I think it caps at 10 humanity, and you get 150 item discovery, 100 item discovery is the default, so 20%, 150 is 50% plus so 30% chance, CGSP is 150 item discovery too but it doesn't stack with SoA so you can get a 40% chance if you have 10 humanity and CGSR, obiously not optimal for the speedrun since u get CGSR in sen's fortress, but it's fun to expeculate
At 1 humanity your item is 150 and at 10+ humanity it's 210. 1 humanity gives a 26.67% chance for Halberd drop and 10 humanity is 32.9%. This is proven using simulations in the in-game debug menu. The common belief that 200 discovery = twice the percentage is not true. You can't just double the percentage like that, since if something has a 60% chance it would become 120%. The game's formula is that is that they have the percentage (20%) as an A:B odds formula (1:4) odds, then multiply "odds for" by 150 (your discovery value) and "odds against" by 100. So it would be 150:400 odds or 27.27% Another way to write this would be (20x150)/((20x150)+(80x100)). The 27.27% is a bit higher than the true value as the chance of getting the black knight shield increases as well and you can only get either a shield or a halberd not both because they're in the same item lot in the itemlotparam file, so you have to account the shield's existence decreasing your chance with the formula (20*150)/((75*100)+(20*150)+(5*150))=.2667.
@@calvin8464 so in totaly even at +10 Humanity the most you'd ever have is about a 1/4 chance of it dropping? Still those odds aren't bad, but yeah does get frustrating restarting over and over just to get the BKH, which takes round-about 5 min

Is it possible to do a wrong warp to get into the kiln of the first flame without getting Lordvessel? And what about the recently discovered moveswap glitch? will run be faster with this?
I don't know a lot about speedrunning, but I've a question: Since glitches are allowed in this category, wouldn't it be possible to perform the Sen's Fortress gate skip instead of going after the bells? I feel like it'd be quicker, but if it wasn't performed there must be a reason for it that I'm not seeing.
Firelink Altar is needed to perform the Wrong Warp to the Kiln of the First Flame. However the sleepy serpent Frampt won't wake up until you ring both bells of awakening. Firelink Altar can be accessed another way, but it is slower. Ringing the bells is not just to gain access to Sen's Fortress, it is just a nice coincidence. I sort of explained it, but this video sucks.
@@KindlyMino Nah, the video is good. But I see, since I never did any run with glitches (or any speedrun, for that matter) I never really thought about what would trigger Frampt to appear - guess I just assumed that getting the Lordvessel would bring him up. But I get it now, thanks for the reply.
It was smart of FromSoft not to make the game's Wrong Warp function able to send you anywhere, otherwise you'd get completed any% runs in under 10 minutes, like what can be done with SMB3
I should have explained it better in the video. If I could go back in time this video would be way better. The answer: Ringing the bells does not only open up the gate to Sen's Fortress, it also awakens Frampt in Firelink Shrine. This is important to be able to access Firelink Altar to be able to perform the second Wrong Warp skipping the four lords.
i don't really do speedruns. but i have a question i know there is a way to skip both bells and just walk into sens fortress. wouldn't that be faster than going all the way through blighttown and doing gargoyels?
Yes and no, sorry for the long explanation. Frampt only appears after ringing both bells. You could skip fighting Quelaag and Gargoyles by performing Sens Gate Skip and obtaining the Lord Vessel. You would then need to go to the New Londo Ruins and perform Seal Skip. This would mean you would have to fight the Four Kings without RTSR, so no two kings. RTSR would not be worth the time spent picking it up. RTSR pickup would also completely re-route the run taking up more time. Once the Four Kings are defeated you can have Kaathe warp you to the Firelink Altar. I have never timed the difference myself, but I assume top runners have. The Darkroot Basin Wrong Warp and Blighttown meme roll save time, but having to kill the Four Kings only loses time.
@@KindlyMino i see. isn't the wrong warp like a farely new thing in ds1 too or was it just not believed to be faster for a long time. casue i remember seeing speedruns of ds1 a while back. and back then it was all about sens gate skip

For speedrunning we fight Super Smough because of the bunny hops. Also Ornstein can be kill at the start of then fight while Smough takes a little bit to get to you. When you speedrun Dark Souls you see some memes.
To dupe 999 you would need to store the quantity somehow. The only way this could be done in a run would be at Andre. This won't work because the dupe would have to be performed right there. Meaning leveling up to meet the stat requirements would also have to happen there. Resting at the Undead Parish bonfire would change the "Last Bonfire Rested." This would change the wrong warp to warp you to first foggate in the Burg instead of the New Londo Ruins elevator. The extra souls would lose you time as you would have to back track all the way to Blighttown instead of Wrong Warping. Hopefully that makes sense.
Yes, you can perform negative dupes without the steam controller rebinds. It can be done on console, but console method is kinda cringe. If you are on PC, you need to hit left click on the arrow in a purchase menu and X/A on the controller at the same time. Left Click and E on just the keyboard might also work, but I could be wrong. This is called prompt swapping and in the videos case when you are buying longswords with a quantity selection you know you have done it correctly.
