I haven't had a large collection of graded cards. But you bet your a** I do have superb upgraded cards. I got into selling upgraded cards, and I don't get too stressed out about it. It's not my main source of income. But I do love the hobby and the conversations about trading cards. And this gentleman here has given great info and tutorials on how to get into this selling online.
Thank you for the kind words, it means a lot to me. Just like you, it is not my main source of income, but it is an alternative way for me to enjoy the hobby as well. One of my favorite things is going though dollar boxes - the aspect of physically going through cards brings me joy because I will never know what I will find. It's kind of like ripping wax but without having to pay the insane prices for boxes these days. It brings me so much joy to that. Thanks for watching!
This is a video idea that has been floating around in my mind for quite some time. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll plan on making one of these videos in the future!
A friend of mine has tried to convince me to get an eBay store, but I don't think it is for me. However, I will be watching your progress as we have some similarities in what we sell. Good luck and I look forward to following your success. Please keep us all posted. I think I speak for many when I say I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot of from this channel
Why do you think it isn't for you? There is a formula to look at to see if a store is right for you. It all depends on when you start paying for listings.
@@HuddleCardCollection I generally list sporadically, with an average of about three per day. Some are auctions, other are buy it now. In the past, most of my cards were bought before needing to be relisted. I plan to list more moving forward, and if that changes, then I probably would set up a store, but I am not at that point (yet).
Thank you so much for the kind words. The decision to open an eBay store can depend on where you are at and if you plan on expanding. It's good that your cards get sold before they end up getting relisted. I think that is fantastic. I think at the rate you are at, you probably won't need to open a store just yet. But if you start to list more, then it may come to a point in which you will need to make that decision. Wish you best of luck and success. We are all in this together! My apologies for the late reply. I usually reply to almost all of my comments, but been very busy with things outside of TH-cam. I finally have the time to respond to all of the comments. Thank you again for your support!
Great video! I am have been a collector for a long time. I have 100% non graded cards. I have been mulling over getting on ebay, and seeing if a store is right for me. Yes, I want to see a long term commitment and yes to everything you noted in your video. Thank you for the video
Thank you so much! I am glad you found value in the video. It is a long term commitment, and definitely a long game when selling these types of sports cards. It's not easy and there will be good days and bad days, but through consistency I truly believe that it can be successful. My apologies for the late reply to your comment, I finally have the time to reply to all my comments. Thank you again!
You inspire me I have about 10,000 sports cards from 2020-2023 all retail base-nice parallel and inserts relics a few autos etc. nothing crazy at all but some very good rookies and their card . I’d love to start doing this. Or sell them all or hold .
That's awesome! Which ever you decided, as long as you enjoy it. Whether you sell them all, or hold them. Selling lower end cards can be a grind and takes some time. It's a labor of love for me and I enjoy the grind.
I tend to mainly use buy it now. I haven't really done any auctions for quite some time. I don't use best offers right now, but if a buyer were to message me with an offer, I will definitely entertain that offer. I've had a few buyers send me messages with offers on particular cards and most times I will take them. Wishing you the best of luck and success! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We are all in this together!
Very nice man. Keep being consistent and you'll only keep growing and growing. Quick question: Where do you usually get all of your cards to sell in the first place? Buy locally from people selling Lots for a good deal in your area, or going to shows with dollar boxes and picking out the ones you want to flip?
Hi Harrison, I mainly go to card shows and dig through value and dollar boxes and pick out the ones I want to flip. Living in Southern California has its advantages when it comes to sports cards. But I also do go through eBay from time to time to buy inventory as well. There are other sellers who go out and buy collections locally from people too. There are many ways to source, but my main avenue is through local card shows.
I don't tend to use promoted listings. I am a believer in the idea of just being consistent and listing everyday will help with the ebay algorithm and make your listings more viewable. But we also have to understand that not everything will sell quickly. Some will take time to sell, but I would still focus on being consistent and just staying active with the listings.
Definitely plenty of advantages. It comes down to scale as well - such as how big you plan your store to be or how many cards do you plan on listing monthly.
Hi Coach! I mainly use buy it now. I haven't ran an auction in such a long time. It really depends on what one is comfortable in using or based on preference. Thanks for the sub and I am glad you are enjoying the content!
This is super timely! I just hit 250 listings and started to get hit by the insertion fees, has to opt to getting a store subscription to save. How did you manage to become profitable when upgrading to a store subscription? Was it listing more? Or higher quality cards which sell for $3, $5 etc. ? Any advice?
When I upgraded to a store subscription, I did so because I started to list more. The types of cards I listed didn't really change all too much, but rather the volume did. I currently list 25 cards daily (175 cards per week), so having a store really helps out with that. Focusing on higher quality cards can be more profitable, but I found it harder to find 175 cards that I can sell at $5 or more vs finding a bunch of cards that I can sell for $2 to $3. So I tend to focus more on volume.
Hey Josh just curious as I’m Debating getting a store subscription. I currently have around 175 cards listed and list 5-8 cards per day. Most are under $5 and like you I utilize free shipping. I’m wondering if running promotions and having a store would be likely to increase buyers buying more then one card at a time which would help off set fees And shipping costs. Love your videos been super helpful!
Running promotions is a great way to increase sales and get buyers to buy more than one card per order. I've been running a "buy 5 or more cards at $4.99 or less and get 20% off your order" for the last 1 and half months and it has help out a bit. I've a couple of orders in which buyers would buy 5 or more cards. It helps off set the fees and shipping costs!
I feel that it is worth it for me, although it may not be worth it for everyone. It does eat into your profit margins for sure, but I not particularly trying to get all of the profit. Because the profit margins are small there are quite a few sellers who try to maximize their profits by charging for shipping. Personally I think profit is profit and what I tend to focus on is maximizing sales rather than maximizing profits. The idea is that by offering free shipping, you may be able to get more sales vs if you charge for shipping. When selling low end cards, its more about selling in volume and that is where my focus is.
Not his answer, just want to share my thoughts. Yes, COMC is great, but it takes fees and costs. You als have to compete with low end against other card owner on the platform. Antwerpen example: if you sell 100 cards on COMC worth $2 on average per card: Shipping costs: $5-10 depending size and weight. Listing costs: $50 for 100 cards Selling fees: 5% per sale: $10 in this example. Pay-out: 10% total fees: $20 in this example. Total fees/costs: 85-90 if all cards sell for an average of 2 a card. That's over 40% of the sale price. Not even considering competition Yes, you don't have the work. For me it's on go 😊
Love the videos, helped me a ton with my start to selling sports cards. Do you ever promote your items through eBay? Saw that as an option, wanted to know your opinion.
That's great to hear, Max! I don't really use promoted listings for my items. Instead I just focus on trying to be consistent and listing items every day - hitting a particular listing goal. Although I am no expert in the ebay algorithm, I found that listing everyday helps a lot. It shows ebay you are an active seller and through that, it is possible to have your listings show up more frequently. Not sure if this is entirely true, but so far it has helped for me. Also, when selling low end cards, it is important to understand that not all cards sell quickly - so there will be ups and downs with sales. So instead, I focus on having balance - cards of stars or those with a strong hobby following mixed with cards of common players.
Hey brother. I used to solely sell on Ebay, but have used Mercari. Although I generate more income with Ebay, I did make $5000 in total sales (after fees), last year on Mercari. I buy very low end cards like you. now Mercari has no fees. I don't know it's pretty easy for me to cross list (takes about an extra minute). Just wanted to let you know. God bless you, Jesus loves you, James

does your take on selling cards apply to all low end cards for football and basketball?

great vid. Hey is better to have a business account or personal for selling singles?
Even though I have an eBay store, I still use a personal account for selling. When you open a store, you can create a name for your store.
What are thoughts about COMC? Why not use them more with the low end sports cards?
Not his answer, just want to share my thoughts.
Yes, COMC is great, but it takes fees and costs. You als have to compete with low end against other card owner on the platform.

COMC see is an option, but one I have yet to explore quite yet. I haven't really looked into using them yet. Maybe in the future.
Can you do a video where you talk about taxes as a seller?
Although I am not an expert in that area, I can try to put out a video on this topic from my own perspective.
