I don't know if he's back for good, but I'm pissed he died...AGAIN. Killing him once wasn't traumatic enough. I need a season 2 where he LIVES. Their connection was so strong that they could find a way. And I wanted Yuan and Yaoyi to find each other. He deserved it for all he went through.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I would have liked to have seen Yaun reincarnated in the Sea kingdom living either Sumo snd his sister
The Series is a prequel to the Mirror series. Because- except for names and a couple of events- the screen diverted from the novel- t
I would imagine the sequel would have to imagined in an entire new universe.
By the way, in the novel the couple are together very intimately- but again the series seemed an alternative universe from the novel
Is it not interesting that as Shi Ying dies this second time around, instead of leaving a physical body behind like he did the first time, this second time his body disappears and he turns into Snowy Rosa petals? Doesn't that mean that by that point in the story, there's something about Shi Ying that has become not quite like a normal mortal? Also, this fact that he turns into flower petals and leaves behind a white one for Zhu Yan -- this seems to support the theory (which I read somewhere) that Shi Ying himself is actually a Snowy Rosa. So then it would make sense that in the ending scene by the Snowy Rosa tree it really was Shi Ying coming back to Zhu Yan in some form or other, and it's not just all in Zhu Yan's head.
It does seem, though, from what Shi Ying said right before dying (that "Each year when the Snowy Rosa blooms, it means I'm back to see you") that he's only coming back once a year. But given how things work in the universe of this story, it may very well be that he starts out coming back only once a year, and then he and Zhu Yan eventually find a way for him to come back more permanently. To me, what's very telling in the ending scene is that Zhu Yan said (and I'm paraphrasing here) -- " I fulfilled my side of the promises, so what about your promises?" To me that seems to be a huge hint that Shi Ying does come back to fulfill his promises to her. One consistent characteristic of Shi Ying in the drama is that he is always very resolute in doing what he says he intends to do.
I agree very much with your reasoning! I also believe things could be that way.
I hope the production team can come up with a season 2, it is a fantastic, enjoyable, heartbreaking series. The chemistry between the main actors is phenomenal.
A season 2 would be GREAT, just having discovered Asian Drama, BTW besides freaking making me bawl like Iam 5 all the time and not a grown women of 48, the serieses are kick-ass compared to American TV . Just WOW. Had to get that out there. But my 1st one being "The Untamed" where a season 2 is very very unlikely,😮 I would love to see a season 2 . It can't end this way. I know it sounds horrible darn it but it's female/male, shouldn't it end good, not that I don't think Wei and Lan shouldn't of , they were adorable and I fell in love with them and have posters all over my house lol, but I just know it's more likely tho not right for hertro couples to have a good ending, and I'm sick of crying when I watch these UGH
@Chaos2Nite In The Untamed, they did not actually part. If you listen carefully while he was playing the flute, he called his name Wei Ying, and he stopped, looked, and smiled. But in the Longest Promise, it is only his spirit through an apparition that visits Shuyan every year when the snowy rosa blooms. But somehow, it is kind of painful for Shu Yan to be constantly reminded that she gave her 27 years to Shi Ying only to be killed by her again. If only she did not stop Shi Ying killing Yuan the first time, this would not have happened. But she is the cursed one. No matter the detour, it ended that way. But I love this drama so much because of the great production and acting. My drama watching choices changed 360 degrees big time. Hahaha. Helplessly captivated.
Season 2 sounds good with same casts though especially the male n female leads.
Siii, por favor!!!
We need a second season with a happy ending
I know the ending was controversial, and it hurt my heart to watch. But after I thought about it, I think the ending made more sense than the happy novel ending. It was tragic, but poetic. Zhu Yan and Shi Ying became Yin and Yang after she performed the rites for him. Yin & Yang. Light & Dark. Love & Pain. Life & Death. I think they were always destined to experience great love and pain together. Despite the hardships and suffering, they always chose each other and fought to return to the light. But their destiny is light & dark, so inevitably, darkness would come again. The scales of Yin & Yang are balanced, and the cycle continues. They were both connected by the snowy rosa, and so in Shi Ying's death, the resurrection spell brings him back once a year so Yan'er would return to the light, out from the darkness his absence left for her. Until her 27 years are up, the cycle of yin and yang, light and dark, continues, until the curse is broken by Yan'er passing and they find eternal peace in the heavens. The ending was heartbreaking, but it makes more sense in the context of the story.
But also, I really hope I'm wrong and the snowy rosa brought him back in imagination land 😂
I would love to see the book’s ending filmed. Honestly, it was cruel to put them through ALL of that just to leave the audience with such a sterile, austere ending that deviated from the authors vision.
There’s enough tragedy in the world and these beautiful characters deserved a happy ending.
The film turns this beautiful theme that love is the most powerful force in the Universe into this idle fantasy. That “cruel fate” wins out and life is all about sacrifice and all that nonsense.
I loved the powerful acting and it was a sumptuously beautiful production overall.
Thanks for sharing this video.
This was the movie I first discovered Xiao Zhan.I literally hooked. It was from a long time ago since I watched Xianxia and I wud say that with all of my sleepless nights, I'm happy, that I really felt the whole damn zoo, because of these two. No romantic scenes, since Shi ying is portraying a divine official and Is from being priest. But I really felt the love they are fighting and hiding from long time ago. Simple gestures means a lot.
But omyghad! What kind of ending is that? It's traumatic bro. Hahahaha I'm rooting to their relationship. I expect an ease after all they've been thru, but.. What is that bro? 😂😭 Everyone found their happy ending, but these two? What the heck. What's their problem? They really want their viewers left hanging and be miserable. Here we are, finding clues to console our broken hearts. Imagining it's a happy ending, tho it's obviously not. 😭💔 We just wanted them to be HAPPY. not just in the original novel, but here, here where we watched these couple.
You know what? We need another movie of them hahaha just like, "In another life I wud be ur girl(again), we'd keep all our promises be us against the world." 🎶🎵🎼. Ganurn! I hate this feeling. We need closure guys. By that, we will be healed for sure. 😂
They obviously didn't spent their remaining life like a happy couple. He died this instance. Lol.
Me lembrou piratas do Caribe, o personagem de Orlando Brum, vinha de 10/10 anos e visitava a amada, acho. No caso deles é de ano em ano o espírito dele vem é a visita, até ela morrer e se encontrar com ele eternamente.
I think the ending is a Shame for a beautiful and spectacular drama. If they would at least run a hug each other or say a word in the last scene, then I would know he was back to life. An amazing drama ruined at the end. I like happy ending dramas that distract me from life routines.
I think he either came back permanently or once a year. But the drama purposely stopped at that confusing & open-ended scene to make it more artistic. And also because, this being a typical Chinese costume drama, the drama creators don't want to make it too clear that it's a happy ending, lol. I find that often Chinese costume drama creators are reluctant to show clear happy endings. It's as if they're just addicted to making their viewers cry. If Shi Ying truly died for good, there's no need to make that scene so open-ended like that -- they can just clearly show that he's not coming back. There's plenty of tragic stories like that in Chinese culture, so I'm sure the drama creators wouldn't have hesitated to show a clear tragic ending if they really wanted to show that Shi Ying died for good. But because what they really meant was that Shi Ying did come back in some form, they offer the audience only a teasing hint of the happy ending. That's typical Chinese style. I love it but also absolutely hate it at the same time.
I didn't watch any of the interviews for this drama -- but I wonder if anyone has ever asked the actors to clarify the ending of this drama?
back for good. in this drama everything could happen. for me shi ying came back to life.
for me too
He's body obviously didn't die, and his promise to zhu yan has to come true coz that's the title,
Thank you for the novel ending. I always like happy endings.
I was happy to see Xiao Zhan again on TV....however, after watching the whole drama I have to say that it was too dark, sad and painful to watch...😢❤ More, knowing that the original novel has a happy ending. Nevertheless: Hats off to Xiao Zhan's, Ren Min's, Alen Fang's (Zhi Yuan) and Marcus Li's (Chong Ming) for their incredible performances. You were awesome, guys!! Bravo 👏👏❤.
Although it has a semi triumphant ending, the novel is darker and has some genuinely disturbing scenes.
Well i watched the last episode today and i need therapy. This show was beautiful yet dramatic.. cant believe his younger bro got more action in the bedroom than him😅. They did not have alot of kissing scenes but a simple look, holding hands or even dance scenes were very romantic. Was hoping for a happier ending esp when they fought their way back to one another so many times. He looked like he was transformed to human form in the end or thats my wishful thinking. Maybe they should of fast forward to 27yrs when she died and then reunited in heaven with him............all it all it was a beautiful show. Great actors❤
Zhi Yin's physical being dies. He at the end gives up all worldly fixation/conflict so he transcends. He asks Zhu to stabe him with the jade to lock the evil god in the body. Zhi Yin transcends/spiritualizes (魂) , not a god or ghost. He is nurturing his spirit so he can come back once a year.
Of course I think when he said it it was to console her and meaning as spirit. But in the end it turned him actually being resurrected. With how that petal turned to him it wasn't just symbolism. If that were the case there would have been just petals falling from the tree no petal changing shape.
Didn't he as a boy the day he actually met the Princess put a spell on the flower anyway to make to come back to life and add in Her family DOES resurrects and she gave him half her life force correct? Plus true love never dies! There IS just as much reason to think he is truly there for food then not there .
Excuse the typos
She ying said that Zhu Yan could do anything she put her mind to when she was hesitant to kill him. He wanted her to kill him and that's why he reminded her those words to make her think beyond her love for him. In the last scene, he was just visiting her as a spirit when a Snowy Rosa bloomed just like he said. He didn't come back to life. There's nothing at all to prove that he resurrected.
Why not? Didn't she give him half her life force and don't her family reincarnate and with how powerful he is/was and their love, wouldn't anything be possible.
@@rottenfleshbbq She gave him half her life but that would've only worked if he lived. He died instead. He couldn't have reincarnated and become an adult in just one year. To put it simply, he died and his spirit visited her when a snowy Rosa bloomed.
He died. I guess he could not be reborn for the 2nd time. It was just an apparition.
I would have liked it better if they had sticked with the novels plot because what's the use of the 27 years in the first place. The drama scriptwriter seemed to have overlooked this aspect in order to have a twist in the story and leave it open-ended and leave it to the viewers decision. It's a scape.
Nonetheless, my respect to all the actors and actresses on this drama plus all the people behind this drama.
I'm very disappointed at the ending. The novel has a happy ending and I expected that. Nonetheless, the drama is still very good. Worth re-watching.
Actually I read from a novel reader that the drama changed things up to show that Shi Ying's heroic deeds resulted in him changing the prophecy that Kong Sang would fall to ruin in 70 years. In the novel he does get to live the rest of his life with Zhu Yan, but after that the kingdom falls back to ruins since their story is just the prequel. Meanwhile in the drama they got rid of all potential threats that could lead to the fall of Kong Sang so it won't directly relate to Mirror:Twin Cities. I feel like that makes Shi Ying's selfless act even more fulfilling and he can protect Kong Sang for a lot longer than 30 years. How much this fact adds to the ending depends on the viewer, I have seen all angles and it all comes down to personal expectations.
I think that's the biggest issue with ending that it doesn't fit with sequel.
@@Aurinkohelmi I don't recall this drama ever being marketed as directly relating to Mirror Twin Cities like a franchise and they were always treated as independent dramas with different production companies but same platform. Fans would know the source material is connected but that's as far as it goes so the dramas has more liberty to deviate. Otherwise these two dramas would have had similar production quality and I think anyone could see this one had the most effort put in.
@@Yookay15 Just saw several about drama pages talking about prequel and sequel. So yes not really marketing, but still confusing when from series. It's just odd if making from series and then changing the story so that the story of the series won't work.
I just hope that Zhu Yan conceived that the next generations could protect Kong San together and combine.. HOPE does not only rest on the elders.. like ShiYing who never asked to be the hero yet he sacrificed a lot. I find it ridiculous that those who wish to be great are more evil with less contribution to save their world yet feeling so self righteous. While those who only want to live peacefully have shoulder saving responsibilities
That doesn't make sense. Then The Longest Promise would have completely overridden the other drama Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities. TLP is the prequel of the latter by the same author, which was written later on to make up some background story of the hero in Mirror. Kongsung was gonna ruined by Sumo, the Sea Emperor and the hero in Mirror as prophesied.
I read the book. Although not a fan of the novel, I still like the book ending way better.
Reincarnation is very common in xianxia dramas. For me the ending was like Shiying reincarnated into human form and got reunited with Zhuyuan cause in the last scene the petal took the shape of him showing his reincarnated form. This ending was very similar to the ending of 'LOVE BETWEEN FAIRY AND DEVIL' I hope my clarification help those who're confused with the ending :)
One detail that made me question the reincarnation is that in xianxia dramas, reincarnation happens to shen xian 神仙 (god or spirit). They have a "true form" that is animal or plant and became a god through cultivation. Thus if they get severely injured, they revert to their true form and restart the cultivation process again. In the Longest Promise though, Shi Ying is only a human and never became a god. How can he reincarnate?
@@yangshengfang But he was resurrected ones with that blood oath, got his powers back with lightnings when on brink of death again and was wearing houtu ring. So I don't think he was normal mortal at that point 😅
@@Aurinkohelmi good point 😂
@@yangshengfang I don't remember properly in one episode or few the supreme priest along with his other disciples were all trying to protect Shiying during his way to become an immortal or something like that sort of thing.Shiying already became an immortal through his cultivation or reached very similar to that stage or even higher than that(cause he went through tribulations to leave his priesthood in order to live with Zhuyuan like a normal mortal and only he successfully made it out so far,so ofcourse he's not a normal mortal like us)& also that is why only he was the best candidate to be a high priest(the one having highest cultivation). And as u mentioned, through that blood oath not a normal mortal like you and I can reincarnate😀only those who possess high celestial powers with immortal soul can be brought back to life. Also both Shiying and Zhuyuan were tied by that magical item(I forgot the name of that bracelet that clearly tied them up together and as long as one stays alive other one won't die) so might be that's the reason why he again came back to life.I heard in the novel the ending was indeed happy so this explanation might be the only positive guess I made about the ending here in the drama.
Uugghhh!! My brain can't move on from this Shiying and Zhuyuan supremacy also the confused ending that made all viewers unsatisfied.I really want the director to release one special episode atleast to clarify the ending that we all are craving for🥺
My take is that the drama's ending reinforces that Zhu Yan was Shi Yin's cursed lady. No matter what, she caused his death. His yearly appearance is evidence of their unbreakable spiritual bond. To me is a very sad ending, especially after all the heart-wrenching and continuous series of unfortunate occurrences to have had just one night of joy on their wedding. On the fall of Kongsang. It will most likely fall, because no matter how kind and sweet, Shi Yu is a week emperor.
* Based on 40-episode version. The last 2 episodes are over an hour long.
The Longest Promise has an ending that will attract different interpretations. Zhi Yuan’s mind and body get controlled by the God of Destruction, Xu Yao in Episode 39. His obsession for Yao Yi makes him a target. Xu Yao wants Zhi Yuan to lead him to the Sea Emperor. The latter’s blood is needed to unseal the full powers of the 2 ancient rings that he has acquired. In return, Xu Yao will transform Zhu Yan into Yao Yi for Zhi Yuan.
In Episode 40, Shi Ying and Zhu Yan manage to defeat Xu Yao and Zhi Yuan dies. However, once Zhi Yuan fades away, Xu Yao enters Zhu Yan’s body instead. But Shi Ying’s love for Zhu Yan makes it hard for Xu Yao to control her. Xu Yao then jumps from Zhu Yan to Shi Ying’s body. Shi Ying then asks Zhu Yan to kill him so that he can seal Xu Yao inside his body. Zhu Yan does so. As he dies, he tells her that he will come back to visit her whenever the Snowy Rosa flower blooms. A petal falls into her hand when he fades away.
One year later, Shi Yu who is now the Emperor of Kong Sang and Xue Ying have a baby son. Qing Gang wants to resign as the King of Qing Clan to be near Xue Lu and help her to revive the city. Zhu Yan is at the place where she met Shi Ying as a kid. The flowers are blooming. She releases the petal which drifts up to the tree. A Snowy Rosa blooms and Shi Ying appears. Whether he has returned permanently or it is just a visit is open to interpretation.
I did not like the ending at all! All those heartaches and they still couldn’t be together. How on earth did he seal the monster but the merlock guy couldn’t? Also would have been nice if she was pregnant with his child or something or for them to show us what happens when the emperor of the sea grows up etc as what was the point of the evil star loool. Wasn’t the ending I expected!
Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities is a drama based on the novel sequel. That drama talks about the emperor of the sea after he grows up.
@@Drama-ABC is shi ying in there?? I want to watch him loool
No, it's a totally different cast and happens years later. Shi Ying is already dead in the time the sequel happens.
Yes Shiying back for good if hey have season 2... Will wait for that
I hope xiao zhan and ren min will have a drama series again a part two of the longest promise their love team is so great and fantastic.❤
Some people believe it was all in Zhu Yan's head -- but I don't think the clues in the last scene supports that. If Zhu Yan was only imagining Shi Ying, he should only be appearing in front of her while she is looking in his direction. Or, alternatively, if both Zhu Yan and the viewers only suddenly see Shi Ying standing there when she turns around -- then that could also possibly mean he's only an illusion (though not necessarily). But that's not how the scene happened. How it happened was that the viewers see Shi Ying start to appear out of the flower before Zhu Yan sees him --- he starts sparkling out of the flower **after** she has her back turned. She was already starting to walk away but only stopped because she heard something behind her. That's an indication she really sensed something behind her, and he really did appear and it's not in her head.
Also, some netizens have pointed out that Shi Ying has a very noticeable shadow in that last scene. Illusions don't have shadows. I've watched the drama multiple times now, and I think all the details in the last scenes were very carefully crafted -- from the choice of clothing colours, to the background music, to those specific words spoken by Zhu Yan moments before Shi Ying appears. There are lots of clues and symbols in those scenes. That shadow was left there for a reason. It's unlikely that the production team just forgot to erase it.
This ending is as open as the untamed ending. Even the scene is the same when they both turn back and smile at their respective lovers.
The Untamed had an open ending?? 🤔. I thought it was pretty straightforward cause Lan Zhan called Wei Ying’s name behind him so therefore it meant they encountered each other again?? Please don’t tell me I had it wrong all this time!! 😆
totally agree with you !!
I was told that The Untamed got that open ending bcus the original ending got cut by Chinese drama review officials (for kinda censorship). The original ending had the two male leads staying together happily. But the scene got cut off.
@myreview5852 I guess you are right. That is why the producer and writer decided to 'temper down' the original story in the novel. But it pained me to know that the backlash went to a particular ML, when all he did was do his job of bringing life to the character assigned to him. He is that good in acting. Gladly, after a year of hiatus, his fans never left his side and successfully came back.
@@precioussword2263 May I ask which particular ML you're referring to?
Thank you for this😊
I like happy endings. Funny how one gets caught up with the spiritual side of life. Cut! Make it a happy ending.
Thank you. It's such a tangled plot although very enjoyable to watch 😃
I was left happy yet heartbroken😢😢😢 for not letting Shi Ying to stay together with Zhu Yan😢😢😢I left and said goodbye to the characters with my tears pouring down from my eyes😔😔😔😢😢😢everyone in the story fulfilled their happiness with people they love and that is because of the sacrifices Shi Ying and Zhu Yan made to save the world😢😢😢heartbreaking indeed, but it is a happy ending, will maybe not for the main couple of the story but it is a happy ending.
Their relationship suffers a lot. Omg. It's sad that everyone finds their happy ending, but this couple that is suffering and fighting for their love since, still, suffers til the end. What an unfair ending. Tsk
We expect an ease to their relationship and live their remaining life. What is the writer's problem? Srsly? Did they really want their viewers be miserable?finding clues to console broken hearts. Imagining it's happy tho obviously not. Huhu😂😭

GRACIAS POR EL VIDEO TE AMAMOS ZHAN
I am so heartbroken. They been thru so much why can they make a happy ending 😭😭😭
Season 2 please.... I like these 2 team up, they are cute and beautiful
There is something different in how he died- unlike the first dead his body was still there even after dying. Then we have the Grand preceptor, when he died there was a body too… just thinking why his ‘transcended’ … plus he got his powers back
Yang jelas para tokoh dalam film ini telah menunjukkan kemampuan mereka yg ampuh, memberikan kesan mendalam 👍👍👍
I believe shiying is resurrected by empress baiwei, I saw the drama script, shiying is resurrected. If he is not resurrected where does the following book and drama 镜双城female lead bai yin coming from? Bai yin is zhuyan and shiying granddaughter.
Another possibility I thought of is that perhaps the ending is left open-ended like that so that it can truly be whatever the audience wants it to be. That way everyone can choose to be satisfied (or unsatisfied) with whatever interpretation they wish to go with. Think about it -- what purpose does it serve for the creators of the drama to leave the ending so open to interpretation like that? I can't help but try to see from the point of view of the people behind this drama's creation - what are they trying to achieve by ending the drama that way?
Precioso y gran actor Xiao!! Está nominado cómo hombre más guapo, para votar es en la página de Nubia, hombre más guapo 2023.
I hope he's coming for good I love happy ending 😢😢❤❤❤❤
Super Great actor!!!! Alen Fang Yilun ( He looks like a young Hugh Grant the Hollywood actor. )
He came back because shecwished him back to life. Also the leaf was symbolic thatvhecwoyld comevback and the snowy rosa bloomed which was a sign that he came back to visit. As hectegained hiscpower so his immortality was regained
Good shiying kembali untuk zhuyan happy ending 💖
I found the scene at the lake where Chi Yuan was engulfed by the red black spirit, being continuously beat up by it very traumatizing and really painfil to watch, while Shi Ying and Zhu Yan stood by helplessly watching. 😢 I liked Chi Yuan so seeing him suffer so much alone is heartbreaking.💔 At least Ying and Zhu Yan had each other.
I am too ignorant about Chinese Xianxia tropes and traditions, so I have formed a personal opinion based on my viewing. Shiying managed to achieve a higher state, moreover he and Zhu Yan share the double connection of the bracelets and the rings. I don't believe he can return for good, as he disintegrates, but I can believe that, between the powerful objects tying them together, and the magic pervading everything, it could be possible that he returns in some form when Snowy Rosa blooms.
I actually liked that the drama had some different choices (different from what I expected from a traditional Xianxia drama). I liked the focus on Shiying's righteousness and his putting his foot down, defying the prophecy (did they succeed? Who knows...)
I loved this drama very much, obviously Xiao Zhan was magnificent, but the other actors were as well very good, the settings, CGI, the costumes... it's a dream very much worth rewatching again and again.
I just completed the English translation of the novel, and I am not certain why there are drastic changes in certain characters and situations. I do understand having an 8- 16 year old Zhu Yan being trained by a scary Shi was problematic. However- although the fan granny in me really appreciated seeing Fang Yi Lu more often than Yuan was in the novel, i wish they could have stuck with the Noble Shark’s portrayal in the book. However, the book seems more open to sequels and supposed the series is a prequel.
i wish Xiao Zhan and Ren Min will have a drama series again a part 2 The Longest Promise with happy ending
First, thank you for your explanation, and secondly, I didn't know that the ending was happy in the novel 🥲 Why did they make it tragic and painful in the drama 😟 Honestly, the ending wasn't perfect
The ending is not as perfect as it was in most of the episodes, because the features of the female heroine did not show the depth of love between them. I sincerely regret that.
Because the two heroes did not enjoy their love for each other, so with the length of the number of episodes, their love came in the last two episodes only, so why did the director insist on making Shi Ying die, even though this is the opposite of what was mentioned in the novel, this is really unfortunate 😩
Totally agree wid u on this. Been thru a lot, then all they got was dat? Lol I can't. I'm so broke because of their relationship. Huhu
It left us hanging, loved the drama, great acting, lots of action, Romance but the ending was disappointing period. He reappeared and didn’t say nothing? What was the promise again?
I believe at the end, when the snowy rosa blooms Shi Ying only comes back as a spirit to visit Zhu Yan.
The ending also proves they cannot change the prophecy.
Honestly after watching last episode i wish i would've never seen the last episode. Can anyone tell me the name of the novel so i can read that? I'm not satisfied with the ending of the show at all...
The novel is called Zhu Yan. You can read the English translation here: bunnylovereader.com/zhu-yan/
@@Drama-ABC perfect, thank you so much!
I saw the cast for Mirror: Tale of twon cities, and there's no Shi Ying in it. There was Zhu Yan tho
In the novel there is no XuYao who was occupying Yuan, Yan, and Ying's bodies? The novel stopped at episode 31?
Yes, no XuYao possessing them. That part was added in the drama for extra tragedy and open ending. In the novel, Zhu Yan romantically liked Yuan who gets killed by Shi Ying. After she kills Shi Ying, she realizes her love for him and uses blood oath to revive him. Shi Ying then leaves priesthood and Da Si Ming kills Shi Yu so Shi Ying becomes the Crown Prince. Xing Zun kills Da Si Ming and possesses a god of destruction statue to fight Shi Ying. Zhu Yan arrives to help and they destroy the statue. A black cloaked figure then appears and Zhu Yan sees Xing Zun's face (which looks exactly like Shi Ying's since he is Ying's ancestor). She gets distracted, takes a blow, and falls unconscious. Chong Ming protects them and dies. Shi Ying then stabs Xing Zun in the heart. The Houtu ring appears, Xing Zun recalls his love Empress Bai Ying, ages, and disappears. He is temporarily defeated for 70 years until he appears again in the sequel Mirror a Tale of Two Cities.

@@Drama-ABC thank you. 😊 ❤️
The ending was very confusing to me. I interpreted it all the ways that you did. I hated the open ending.
Agreed. I couldn't decide on which interpretation was the most likely scenario for this one, but my gut feeling when watching it was a little sad. I really had my hopes up for a clear happy ending given the novel ending.

Why everyone like to compare drama with novel?. I'm just love the drama coz i don't like to read novel just to spoil my mood watching drama with all my heart. For me it happy ending coz shi ying has shadow..mean he is real.
@@imnbar good point
That was episode 43 not 40. On my Netflix it has 43 episodes
China regulations limit dramas to 40 episodes, so it's 40 officially, but there were 3 episodes towards the end that were extra long. Netflix broke out those episodes into two so it's 43 episodes on Netflix.
Love between fiary and devil....
Asian movies they love sad endings don’t know why…..😢
Before watching any Asian drama I always check the ending of the movie for happy ending 😂
Cause don’t want anything to affect my mental health plsssssssss😅
Once a year
😢
If it was continuous too good 👍👍
Book ending was better
Do you mind sharing where I can read the novel..coz i believe in the drama, shiying died..and thinking all they have gone through, itll be a happy ending..somehow, i imagine to justify his mortal death, he could have left zhuyan pregnant…though she can only see him once every year, they have a child..😢

Once a year 😢
❤❤❤ the ending,,, but more romantic if she's holding a baby or she's pregnant by him,,because she's was wanting for him to back for me loveable and sweet, but ok 👍still ❤❤❤ them🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭
Imaginary only
THE ENDING IS GO BACK AND FORTH, JUST TO MAKE IT LONGER.
Tetapi pada akhirnya ,akhir cerita diserahkan bagaimana si pembuat cerita film ini
I don't see why the title is name the longest promise, but the ending wasn't satisfying I wish they could have even leave an offspring
Wish the novel was in English
Sad ending to me….
I hate ending ...killing shi ying is not at all convincing
Menurut pengertian saya ,yang sebenarnya akhir cerita film ini tidak ada akhir bahagia seperti yg idamkan Shiying dan Zhuyan ,
Don't say its going to be sad ending😢
Que derrota de final perdi tempo 🙈
I stay with the happy ending of the original nivel. There we're not a neccesity of killing Shi Ying again. He said everything can be reverted, fate can be reverted too. That w happy ending. He and she could be the bisggest influencers in a chaotic world. Because of their longest cultivation a virtue. And not simple an imaginarte image of him coming back yo snre her. The ending was just a show of a rude scenes and special efects very disapointing.
This is so unfair :(
Don't like the ending, why do they waste soo much episode keep going over same thing, and the ending is 5 minutes, 1 thumbs up not 2 thumbs ups
I hate sad ending
I felt that the ML didn't have any chemistry with the FL because who just hugs on their wedding night. Even ML half brother, the King later, had a kissing scene on the bed.
Loved the series except the finale, very disappointing. Didn’t like it at all!!
For me it was a shitty ending, the lastest episodes ruined the show. It felt like everything was for nothing, why bother to have him dead once, lose his memories, having to suffer to become mortal, and then having him die again!
The name shouldn't be The Longest Promise, but The Longest Tragedy. Horrible writting.
You are absolutely right🫠💔
The main FL had a horrible hair style. The other two Female in the movies looked better.
It's all rubbish such a boring drama
