I followed your advise on your previous video about putting a tint on the glass walls and windows and it helped a lot to cool down the house. I even contacted your supplier, luckily they have office/supply in Manila. So happy to have done that, even it is a bit costly. Thank you for your tips.

A bamboo screen that prevents most of the sunlight from reaching the window works better than any inside treatment. It also gives a warm natural glow to the home. I come from Canada and would love to learn what can grow here over concrete walls the way ivy does in Canada and Europe to stay cool.

Jalousy windows are a security and AC cooling nightmare. They're easy to break into and when closed still leak so much air that it cost you much more to actively cool the home. And, going back earlier consider elevating the house on stilts. The airspace underneath the home prevents radiant heatsoak from the ground and crossflow air cooling. It also provides additional flood protection.

@@hf7976 I am no expert, but probably, in areas like the Philippines, you would need to account for things like landslides, earthquakes and water table levels etc..
There would be many structural components to consider as well, depending on how much top-soil (if any) that you have. Maybe a solid concrete build with structural steel framing would be nice. You would need to thoroughly waterproof the concrete.
That being said, you could probably do it easier and cheaper, if you wanted to. Either way, would want to hire a good engineer that knows what they are doing.

The orientation of a house can significantly impact its internal temperature. If a house faces west, it will be exposed to the intense heat of the setting sun, especially if it has large glass windows. This can create a greenhouse effect, where the sun's rays pass through the windows and are absorbed by materials inside the house, such as concrete and metal. These materials store the heat and gradually release it throughout the night, keeping the house warmer even after the sun has set. Additionally, poor wind circulation can exacerbate this effect by preventing heat from dissipating efficiently, leading to higher temperatures inside the house.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Maybe suited for rich audiences. But for regular folks, long tall trees will help on the south and west sides, breezeway inside the house by placing windows on lower part on entry and higher windows for escape (so find out wind direction throughout the year), design the roof overhangs using online tools that tells the angle the sun makes to any part of the house anytime of the year in any locations and use of rice husk and straws for insulation. For greener house, use bamboo for framing (2x4 lumbers in North America) instead of hollow blocks (cement manufacture contributes to greenhouse gas). Just make sure treat them first for protection against ants.

Hi Slater, I hope you can do a vlog also on cabinetry in the future. We had hard time looking for a good cabinetry/kitchen renovation contractor. The last one we had was very problematic. Hindi pulido. The second was, they keep on insisting us to use MDF material kahit ayaw namin. We wanted sana matte finish on a marine plywood but they always present problems than possibilities just because we dont want MDF. The thing na ayaw namin sa MDF is the use of Melamine kaya instead na Matte, shiney ang kalalabasan. The contractor always said to us na mas maganda shiny kesa matte, eh matte nga gusto namin.

Hindi lang sa old houses yung may problem sa insulation. Sobrang hindi uso yung insulation where I live, nung nag padouble wall ako and "double" ceiling nagtaka sila and natawa. "May pader naman papaderan pa yung pader, may kisame naman kikisamehan pa ulit." Parang ang taboo ng insulation and inaccessible,sa web ka lang makakabili ng medyo ayos na insulation mabibili mo lang sa hardware stores and depots ay yung white na insulation. Even in cars ang dami kong pinuntahan na shops wala din sila nung black na may adhesive, I figured na mas okay yon compared don sa white, pero wala ding makita. Nauwi sa shopee, bought car insulation para idikit sa old ceiling, then rockwool laid down the new ceiling and inside the gap of the new and old wall. Insulation is key, parang taboo where I live yung insulation nag tataka mga tao.

whirly birds vent mostly used for industrial, warehouses, manufacturing plants and factories etc.
pros- green energy it can run without electricity, 24/7 ventilation, improves workers comfort level, reduce heat etc.
ang cons lang is pag mahina hangin di po ito gumagana ang ventilation.

Hot air rises, with the ceiling fan the wind will circulate the hot air, I think ceiling fans are a bad idea.
