This a cute weather cube/clock. The clock uses the NTP service for accurate time. The weather is provided via Open Weather Map which has a free API service. www.aliexpress...
Very cool! I just received and configured mine! The only thing is that I couldn't get a GIF to play. You did it? Despite the required dimension (240x240) and the maximum size, I was unable to load any gifs :(
Yes I got a strange message from Google that said my Internet security was compromised when installing mine, then it flashed and disappeared. On another web page someone commented they thought it was a Chinese spy device. Hehh.... well. If so they went through a lot of trouble just to discontinue service after they all got put in place. Because as soon as that happens they will all be tossed out
I tried using the web interface night mode with start and end time. The time can start at 6pm - 11pm. End time can end from 5am to noon. I set the brightness down all the way but the display is still visible. Other than that option if you use Wifi or Zigbee switches you could automate turning it off that way.
Mine resets the colour of the clock to black at least once a day, and I have no idea why. This makes it impossible to see the time without having to manually correct it, quite frustrating.
@@GaryQuiring Oh, is that expected behaviour? Night mode is due to start at 11pm but the colour always changes before then , and certainly does not return to its previous state once night mode has ended. I’ll turn it off and see if that makes a difference 🙂
@@madalinliviuvlog I don't use it in my bedroom, it's in my home office. It has a nightmode where you setup the start and end time, you can adjust the brightness to be very low which would work well in a bedroom.
The weather service it uses is OpenWeatherMap. They changed something on their side that the server does not like - SPACES. If your city name has a space use a + sign instead. So if you lived in Red Bank, US it would be Red+Bank,US. The other issue is , US. There was a space after the comma. Get rid of it. But the bad news is OpenWeatherMap is retiring their 2.5 API call this June 2024. But I don't know for sure what API they are using since we don't have the source code. So it's possible it will stop working very soon.
There are several issues that could be causing this. The most common is a space issue. If your city has a space in the name something changed with the weather service API call, it won't allow spaces any longer. Replace all spaces with a + character. Example: Red+Bank,USA Make sure there are no spaces in that entry. If that does not solve it, try a very common location, it could be your city, country code is not supported. Next is the format, it's not city, state It's city, country code
It won't work until you connect it with your smartphone to configure the Wifi, then you need to config the params for your location to get weather forecasts.
That's interesting, it's most likely getting the time zone from the weather check. The City, Country code must be set wrong for your area. The other possibility is if you use a VPN, it could be using your IP address to estimate where you are and the VPN is masking it for the wrong area.
@@felipexnota Mine stopped working when I power cycled it today. It's something to do with openweathermap.org. I have a morphing clock arduino project that uses the same weather service and it stopped working a few days ago.
@@GaryQuiring Mine auto updated. I then had to send the MAC address to the seller to obtain the license key. Put that in now it wont allow me to join the clocks wifi to configure it! Loosing patience!
@@philmorris9187 Hey, did you have any luck with this? I also have the same issue, asking for a license key. I've emailed them but had no response for about 3 months!

Awesome! Is there a way to DIY a bigger screen and run off the same board?
The resolution would be an issue, it would get pixelated. If they open sourced the code then we could build a bigger one.
i just got one (pixie tube design but same screen) and would love to wireshark this thing to see what traffic is being passed
tell us the results when you get it please

Is there an option to turn wi-fi off? I just want to use the clock function but do not want wi-fi signal emitting all the time from my bedside
There is no option because it requires a Wifi connection. If you turn off the Wifi the weather won't work and it can't sync with the NTP server.
Hey Gary, do you know how to turn it off ? Or just unplug it ?

Check to make sure you don't have the night mode on.

Hi. Display have sensor for adjust automatically the brightness?
It does not appear to. I shined a bright LED flashlight on the cube and it did not adjust the brightness.

How do I reset mine I can’t find the he WiFi
I think you unplug it while it's booting and plug it back in. It will go into access point mode so you can discover it on your phone.
