Was turned on to Dr. John in 1972 at the Mar Y Sol Pop festival in Puerto Rico. Have been into him ever since. Saw him several times over the years including at the fabulous "Music Inn" in Lenox Ma. Saw him last at Stephens Talkhouse in South Beach Florida. Each being a very memorable show. His music will certainly live on in so many. I for sure. +
jazzyvocalfan: thanks for posting. I'm not the biggest Rickie Lee Jones fan but after reading "Last Chance Texaco" I had to check out this performance. Cheers!
saw another version of this duet on bravo several years ago (even better if that is possible) . Rickie as wearing a red funky hat and at the end her and Dr, John walked out arm in arm. Never forgot it. Hope they are still performing.
Great MAtch up.. Most remember this from Sleepless in Seattle. The song from a musical of the same name datres from the 30s. What is the Venue here? I hear the announce say "e'll be right back"
@westpalmscott Good for you - my guess is that folks who make those comments are clueless. She has a very loose style - that doesn't mean she's stoned. Having been there myself, I don't see it - just a very talented stylist. BTW - very good version. Dr John and Rickie work well together. Five stars.
thanks submarinepainter, reading the thread makes me curious. apparently another performance on video is available, tough to top this one I think, Is it also live? I definitely will have to search the version with Toots Thielemann and Peggy Lee.
I love this video, but they (Dr, John & Rickie Lee) made a better video of this - it was super. I believe it played on MTV - if anyone has it and can upload it, please do it. They were in a household scenerio and it just made you feel good when you watched it.
So you prefer Michelle Pheiffer to a legendary figure like Dr. John. Go get the music on the Album " In a Sentimental Mood",this song and several other classics are on it. I think you'll change your mind. The piano playing, the band, the arrangements, the singing and foremost the material are first rate and will last forever.
definitely one of the most awkward and uncomfortable performance i've ever seen. where are his eyes and where is her coffee and whoever told her she could sing. can't wait till i start posting vids
This is big time music.
Best rendition. I absolutely love the way their voices are a perfect complement. I hope they did lots of songs together.
RLJ is one of the finest singers in my lifetime.
This song makes me dance exactly like that.

That big 'studio band' is so fantastic....
I absolutely love this rendition with them. Thanks for being on here.
My favorite cover of this.
BOTH R SO KOOL. " RICK'S BACK IN TOWN" BLENDS WELL W/ "THE DOCTOR" " MUST HAVE BEEN THE RIGHT PLACE, MUST HAVE BEEN THE WRONG TIME"
I remember this being played on station here (Love94), and it is such an irresistable catchy tune...thanks for posting!!!
Best rendition, this one is for the books.
Oh my God! What can I say? Speechless

Dr John is underrated. He's an icon.
How can one be underrated AND an icon? I don't think that word means what you think it means.
TIMELESS !
wow just saw this on MTV and had to google it. WOW AWESOME!!!!!!!! xxxxx
I think this is very COOL!!! Au Naturale! - they're having so much fun with this it's great - wish I could sing like that and bet others do too!
Cool - have this CD - great duo

So 😎 cool
Dr. John has a good tailor. I wonder who it is? Rickie Lee has a great voice and sense of presence.
Jazzy you got that one down you got that one down WHOOPEE
Doc is da man! Y'erd me?
Great
R.I.P. - DOC..!

This song was sung by Eddie Cantor years ago. About 60 years ago.
it was theTonight Show with Johnny Carson
Omg what is this from? I never saw it.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaammm!
whatever happened to Ricky Lee Jones ???? a real treat ...big band arrangement ..mmmm
Sheeeeeeeet...can I have an AMEN???!!!
grrr yes
What year is this?
@OO7ROCKCHICK This clip was on MTV?
This was the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson
@ZPinarello I did, so no worries.
Помогите найти партитуру для оркестра!!!

this is the tonight show, and it has to be before johnny left, so summer of 1992 at the absolute latest.
I'm guessing earlier. Doc & Jones collaborated on a album in the 80s & I'm thinking this was a promotional appearance.
Off-The-Hook!
bucking frilliant.. they fit so well and i have a problem not singing along and i am not even gay....
Lol
Later bro. And thanks.
Now I know -Bjork had a teacher and her name is RLJ
Yeah, the Doc is probably completely strait lol
Reggie. MALCOLM
swanky!!
uhm is dumb, and you could be wrong - they both sound awesome - you should just say thank-you
Biopic: Will Sasso and Carol Kane! Huh? Seriously, back when voices had distinction and style....
The horns are much too loud in this number - they sound like NOISE, not music. The doctor and Rickie are soooo much better with just the piano.
this is a horrible horrible version of a decent song.
It is fine but that brass needs to tone.
I prefer Michelle Pheiffer's version from the movie "The Fabulous Baker Boys."
