This song is one of the reason I am the person I am today. The lyrics just spoke to me. One of my all time favorite songs, still making me cry 30 years later
Garth grew up just outside of OKC. This is footage of the bombing of me Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. 168 people lost their lives. Including 17 children. April 19,1995
As an Okie whose kids were about 2 miles from the bomb blast that day, this reminder and tribute touches all the feels! What a dark day in Oklahoma's history~lightened only by the love and encouragement from around the world.
I understand completely. I’m also an okie. We lost some of our customers that day and my mother-in-law was supposed to be in the building that day but she had a flat that kept her from going.
At 9 a.m. we were out on break at Tinker A.F.B., Oklahoma City when we heard the explosion downtown some 8 miles away at 9:04. At first we thought it might of been a gas line, but when we saw the reports on the news some folks went home - they were unable to continue working. There was a daycare in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, and out of the 168 who died, 19 were children. There was one nurse who was killed at the scene from falling debris and a police officer a year later took his own life. I add them to the list. Wife worked with a lady who lost her 18 month daughter. The Mom normally went to the daycare on her break to visit her daughter because her building was across the street on the southside of the Murrah bldg. - the van full of fertilizer mixed with diesel was on the northside. Before she left her boss asked her to fax something for him, and that delay is what saved her life. She also had two boys ages 3 and 5 who were not in the daycare. Met a man in a waiting area at the vet and he told me he was in the building when the floor just disappeared under his feet. He had three surgeons working on him at the same time. One for a head injury, one for a chest injury, and one for his leg injury. 500 were injured that day. I use to think that we were like any other animal, but I have discovered there is one thing we humans can do that animals can't -- Kill from a Distance. Disabled Vietnam Vet
The images and the lyrics to this song still bring me to tears all these years later. Seeing kind-hearted heroes running toward the danger keeps my faith that we are good inside.
This one came out in summer 1996 after Oklahoma City Bombing. I live in Louisiana but this bombing hit hard. The photo that made Time that year of the fireman carrying out that little 11 month old baby who was already gone gutted me because my second child (a girl was almost exactly the same age as that baby he was carrying. My daughter will turn 28 this year in May. That little baby he carried would also be 28 this year. It’s just awful.
Garth is from Oklahoma so I am sure this really hit home for him. He is the best....best country singer in my opinion. I hadnt seen this video in quite some time, wow, powerful!
What makes it worse is knowing they had to demolish the building to get the last two victims. Btw, not only is Garth from Oklahoma, he grew up in Yukon which is a suburb of Oklahoma City. He very well may have known someone directly affected.
Ga r th is from Oklahoma. He still resides there on his ranch. That was a hard day for America 🇺🇸. Children were lost their lives. We soldier on help each other. The men who planned were brought to justice. Thank you to all firemen, bomb squad, first responders, and our military.
This song gets me every time. I live in Oklahoma City. I remember exactly what I was doing and where I was that day. if you are ever able to come here, you should visit the Memorial.
I think the way it started out because he's from Oklahoma an this is when we had the bombing in Oklahoma City in 1995 an it hit him hard. an alot of lives were lost.! It's an emotional song an time to go threw. Nice song an very .eaningful .
This song was written by the great Tony Arata ( he also wrote the Dance... along with other songs) He is in the song writers hall of fame. April 19 was the anniversary of the bombing
I lived about 6 - 7 miles from the building and my house shook from the size of the blast. One of my friends from high school worked in the Social Security office which was on the first floor right by where the truck exploded. They never found her body. RIP Julie Welchi (1971 - 1995)
How did I miss this? I am here now. Being from Oklahoma, I cannot express with words what that day meant to all of us. And still means. I go at least twice a year to the memorial that is there. I am one that believes we cannot forget our past or the people we have lost or the way we lost them. It is beautiful there now, a way to remember that total destruction and hate doesn’t carry on forever, there are moments in time that happen and stay with you but you can reshape what they are in your head to go on with life. And Garth, of course I love Garth, you cannot be from Oklahoma and not love Garth. He reminds me of Freddie Mercury, he feels music and has a way of expressing it that is 100% believable. His impact on country music and making it more popular across all genres, cannot be stated strongly enough. He is special. This is a rough one, it immediately zooms me back to that day, I was working on a military base that went on lock down and was at work until they finally opened about 11 pm that night. That is a very long day listening to reports on the RADIO or waiting with all of the nerds I worked with trying to find out information on what we called the internet back then. At that time you needed expert computer people to find anything on the internet and I am glad I was in that basement with them that entire day. We could send 2 people out once that day with an armed military escort to get food on base and we ended up with such a wide variety of weird combos of food. The things you remember? That is how locked down we were. Patrols were on the roads, tanks, it was so strange and surreal. Which I suppose added the extra feeling of drama to that day, it was a long time before we knew we were safe. I guess it is mixed if a military base is where you want to be, you could be the target but if you weren’t you were located in one of the safest environments to be found. I cry every time I hear this song. ❤️
I'm from Oklahoma. I was in the 7th grade when this happened and I remember being in the library doing something for my teacher and they were watching the news about the bombing. When this video came out, and everytime I watch it, I cry. My cousin was in the hospital in OKC a few blocks away and the explosion knocked out the windows. I'm from a small town in Eastern Oklahoma. Some of our cops, firemen and other people went and helped out in OKC. I wanted to but I was only 13.
I was born and raised in Oklahoma City and let me tell you seeing the fighter fire save someone from that building seeing it as a child it just really really takes your breath away
I had to see this video because I do not have a very good memory and could not remember this song at all. I will be honest, I was crying not long into it. Beautiful song.
My favorite Garth song. I remember this. We all lived it, coast to coast. The daycare...watching for signs of life days later. Watching the way first responders were emotionally and physically effected. It may be the last time we were really all on the same page. Everything is different now.
Their are some moments in life you can never forget. I remember exactly where I was that day and what I was doing. I can't watch the video without completely losing it. Thank you for reacting to this song and playing the original video.
A severely unrated song. I take a knee to king George but Garth? I remember meeting him VERY early in his career. My city had Joyland amusement park. One year Garth played before he exploded into the mega star he is. My grandma Josie. Such a wonderful women. I remember he got done with his performance. Grandma Josie told Him no young man you sit down and have some chicken. I won’t say he’s very close to my family but her love to a total stranger...I’ll never forget.
I will never forget when that happened. I had just turned 12 a month before. What a horrible day that was. I will say though, Garth Brooks did such a fantastic job on this song. He performed it live at the 1996 American Music Awards; you could see the emotion in his face as he was singing but I have to commend him for holding it together, he did such a great job. The performance is on TH-cam, if anyone is interested in watching it.
On Sept. 11, 2001 NYC turned to Oklahoma City and asked "What do we do" because that was the only city that had experienced an attack like that before.
Thank you for posting this HAP. I have been pretty dismissive of country music/ artists. I listened to this with a new ear and open heart. I am ashamed of my ignorance. This was beautiful.
I just got home, had heard Garth Brooks singing "The Dance"...and I thought, oh, I should recommend this song to be reacted to, and here you are doing a Garth Brooks song..try Garth Brooks- The Dance!
The Oklahoma City bombing of the Federal building was so shocking at the time, the deaths of so many people including children in the day care center was heartbreaking! It brings tears to my eyes even now 27 years later.
Timothy McVeigh, the bomber in this case, was from Michigan, my home state, and having lived in Oklahoma for 7 years, this really hit me hard. I was so ashamed that he was from my state. That kind of hatred is hard for me to understand.
I can still remember crying every time this video came on. I was only 8 and I literally just sought this video out because I could vividly see it in my head and I just HAD to find it. It’s lived with me for that long. ❤️ thank you for this reaction
Thank you for reacting to this HAP. It was a terrible day and, in our innocence at the time, we thought it was a one-off horror and that nothing worse could ever occur in our 'safe' country.
I live less than 5 miles from where this happened. The blast was so strong, it cracked 3 windows in my house. And I swear when I heard the blast (and oh my God was it loud), I swear the east wall in my house moved because of the shock wave. This song is amazing, Garth Brooks is amazing. When he came home and had his first concerts here in Oklahoma City, it was very special and very emotional. God bless all those innocent souls who passed away that spring day, in April 1995. ANYONE that sees this, and comes through Oklahoma City, I would definitely recommend for you to go to the Memorial site and go through the museum here. You will get to hear the actual blast, and see the destruction that was done after the blast. They have sealed off a section of the building the museum is now in, and will forever be untouched, to show how devastating it actually was.
After 9/11 he went to three different coast and played Norfolk Virginia very cold I think it was on an Aircraft carrier Texas pouring down rain and California inside all the first responders and their families didn't have to pay for a ticket all three venues the Oklahoma City bombing the building had a daycare in the bottom of it and hundreds of kids were killed so sad
Little late with my response but here goes. Garth has always been a favorite. I did not get know this song was done in response to the OKC bombing or there was a video. Garth has a marvelous voice and his ability to his emotions into song concerning this horrific event is amazing! He is a fantastic American 🇺🇸 and with his talent and recognition is able to touch so many people throughout the world. Thanks my friend for your beautiful reaction and for doing this particular song. Love ❤️ from across the pond,Dee
the song wasn't written for OK. bombing. Tony Arata had written before then , but Garth heard it & made this video. It has perfect lyrics for that situation. Can't believe 26 yrs. have passed since the bombing. The worst domestic terrorism in our country.
I’m from Texas and that is close to home. I was in rehab from brain surgery, I was crying then, still crying. It’s something we should never forget. Great song, thanks HAP ❤️
Oh my, my favorite by him.....so emotional. Love it I "Oklahoma City bombing, terrorist attack in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, U.S., on April 19, 1995, in which a massive homemade bomb concealed in a rental truck exploded, heavily damaging the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. A total of 168 people were killed, including 19 children, and more than 500 were injured."
What I was always taught is that music and singers (the good ones anyway) channel emotion. That that is their job. Oklahoma city the building had a child daycare center in it for the government workers on the ground floor. It was devastating.
It's a heartbreaking tragic.. thanks for doing this reaction. Garth delivers the message to the world with this song. And your reaction reminds the event that we should never forget. 🙏
The footage of a policeman crying at 04:24..When you see a man (who's probably used to seeing terrible things daily that ordinary people don't see) broken like that, it shows the magnitude of the tragedy..That scene hit me so hard. A beautiful message was given through the song and your respectful and humble appreciation came across (as usually)
Thanks for this one. This is my VERY FAVORITE Garth Brooks song and nothing can touch it. I still cry every time I hear this song. I was a sophomore in college when this happened. I remember sitting in one of my friend's room and watching the coverage. We both needed to get to a class but we just couldn't stop watching the coverage hoping they kept finding survivors. It feels almost like it was yesterday.
WoW! It's a hard one to watch since I live here in OKC. I remember exactly where & what I was doing when the bomb went off. It shook every house in the city. At first everyone thought it was a natural gas explosion. It was so loud. All the innocent people & children that lost their precious lives. Taken by one of their own. Bless the people & the children taken away by this abomination. Bless the survivors . Thank you HAP. ❤️❤️❤️. You are so thoughtful. Beautiful Reaction. ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Sumer- you live just a bit from where Garth lived- I’m 100 miles south. I have friends who were in the blast also. This is so striking- a beautiful tribute! We’ve texted before remember? Hap has spread his wings and is amazing! Yes?
@@chicochi3 I used to live about 6-7 miles from downtown. My house shook. I thought a plane had crashed nearby. One of my HS friends used to work in the social security office at the building. They never found her body.
Sux that Garth pulls his music from TH-cam but his music is amazing! My rockin’ favorites from Garth are That Summer; Standing Outside the Fire; Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up); Callin’ Baton Rouge; Rodeo; and Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House. My emotional favorites of his are If Tomorrow Never Comes; Unanswered Prayers; Wolves; What She’s Doing Now; The River; Learning to Live Again; That Ol’ Wind; Somewhere Other Than The Night; Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old); The Dance; She’s Every Woman; and In Lonesome Dove. But his most powerful songs are Mom; The Thunder Rolls; The Night I Called The Old Man Out; We Shall Be Free; and The Change.
@@spfisterer3651 Yes, looking at it, it is a strange list, but completely true. I think when historians look back, they may agree. You and I must have either grown up at the same time, or have some connection. Lol!
Wow this was hard to watch. I remember when it happened and Garth being from Tulsa< Oklahoma made this song difficult for him. Of course the tears were flowing for a lot of people. Tough song but beautiful heart wrenching. Thank you for your reaction...I see you felt it.
As others have said I remember this well. Garth has a way, with his ballads, of getting you in the feels. The Dance, If tomorrow never comes, Thunder rolls.....then try "Friends in low places" :)
I’m an Oklahoma native and I was in 6th grade when this happened. I remember everything about that day. My parents owned a Texaco in Moore and they were really close to many customers some who we lost that day. My mother-in-law was supposed to be in the building that day but for she had a flat tire that made her stay home. Garth Brooks, who is from our state released a song (The Change) about the bombing.
IT'S NOT THE WORLD THAT I AM CHANGING/ I DO THIS SO THIS SO THIS WORLD WILL KNOW/THAT IT WILL NOT CHANGE ME. DO.NOT.LET.HATE.WIN. GARTH BROOKS_- BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE TO THE VICTIMS OF THE OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING. THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO ALL THE VICTIMS TO THIS DAY, FOR THE ONES THAT WERE LOST R.I.P. THE FIRST RESPONDERS AND THE FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES THAT WILL NEVER FORGET THIS TRAGIC DAY. HAP! A SINCERE HEARTWARMING REACTION, THANK YOU!❤🙏
Here is part of an article on what happened "McVeigh set domestic terrorism on a new course 25 years ago when his truck bomb slaughtered 168 innocent people and injured 800 more in the Oklahoma City bombing. McVeigh said the 7,000-pound truck bomb he ignited in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995, was an attack against the U.S. government. In reality, government workers and ordinary citizens who had nothing to do with his grievances were murdered, including 19 children. Before the Oklahoma City bombing, terrorists in this country generally targeted specific people or groups they considered enemies. Since then, domestic terrorists They will kill anyone to make a point, whether it is at a place of worship or a shopping mall."
Wow!! This was a great song and the perfect performer to do it. This was such a horrible tragedy. Bless anyone who had loved ones hurt or worse by this 🌻🌻
Been awhile since I saw this video I'm both surprised and not surprised he didn't do a special version of this for the 20th anniversary of 9/11 many would claim he is trying to exploit it even if it's to honor
April 19 was my wedding Anniversary, it’s also the date a massive Tornado hit the city, Greenwood Arkansas…. Took so many lives and such destruction. I was like 6 years old and lived about 10 miles away across the Okie border. My parents drove us to see the carnage left behind. I will never forget what my young eyes saw on that day. I’m still a Okie, born and bred. We Okies go thru a lot in the spring when we get most of the tornados.. But even those “ nators” cant get us to pack up and leave our great State. Oklahoma is so proud of our singing natives, Reba McIntire, Blake Shelton, Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood plus many other notable singers. Thanks for giving us this awesome video, sometimes we forget what the past held. Love your reaction..Peace and love to all.
I cry every time I hear this. The kids were at the lower level and rescue teams could tell that there were many kids between the levels. I think about that trauma and I'm not a fan of cops or even kids.
What an amazing message from the song and you, Hap! One can never judge by looks. He gave a beautiful voice to the grief and sadness we all felt and still feel when tragedies like these happen. Excellent selection for a reaction, and especially poignant for even the tough issues of our current state of affairs in the world.
Thank you...it's been a long time since I've experienced this song and video. Words and accompaning images are poignant. Yes, Garth can sing! He also had crazy fun concerts back in the day.
I thank you for posting this, been meaning to watch it lately. Garrh"s an amazing singer. I've listened to all his work throughout a good chunk of my Life.
I remember exactly where I was when I first heard about this disaster. I was on spring break in my senior year of high school. My older sister was living in a suburb of OKC at that time and I was scared she was in that building.
I am a native Oklahoman and I was at home the day that the Oklahoma city bombing happened I was living with my grand parents at the time and home sick with the flu and when the bomb went off it rocked all the way to where I lived in Midwest city Oklahoma that day is still traumatizing even 28 years later every time I hear that noise I it hurts my heart so much because that day is burned into my mind with 168 people killed including several children it is still a non stop grieving process my heart thoughts and prayers are still with all of the families of the lost loved ones that were tragically taken that day and we continue to fight for justice and we continue to forever and always be OKLAHOMA STRONG
I think no matter where you're from and what religion you believe in,no matter what colours of skin we are,"which is ridiculous anyway we,re all human I love every skin colour including my ghost white body 😁"😒🙄bored of that narrative "..we all have empathy in us, we,re all God's children full stop ✋ ❤, it's heartbreaking to see so many lives murdered by nonsense or nonsensical reasons,we will always ask why???..that's the burning question and we know it will never be answered, at least truthfully 🙄
This song was co-written by Tony Arata who also wrote The Dance.
As popular as Garth is, how good of a singer he is seems to get overlooked. The variety he can sing is quite remarkable.
This song is one of the reason I am the person I am today. The lyrics just spoke to me. One of my all time favorite songs, still making me cry 30 years later

I'm from Arkansas. A four hour drive from OKC. I just recall sitting there in stunned silence.
Born and raised in okc was a child when it happened remember going downtown the Friday after
Oh my, my favorite by him.....so emotional.
💕
What I was always taught is that music and singers (the good ones anyway) channel emotion. That that is their job.
Oklahoma city the building had a child daycare center in it for the government workers on the ground floor. It was devastating.
💕
And thank you for doing this song.
Love the respect of the lyrics.
I was about 11 years old when this happened and I still instantly cry when I see this footage.
Our home grown Okie!! Garth is giving his all- Go cowboy-
Where are you in Oklahoma? I grew up in OKC and went to OSU for about 1-1/2 years. I now live in Tennessee. I love your Freddie avatar.
My daughter was 3 weeks old when the bombing happened. One of those days I will never forget.
Thank you for the original.
It's a heartbreaking tragic.. thanks for doing this reaction. Garth delivers the message to the world with this song. And your reaction reminds the event that we should never forget. 🙏
I was just a few miles away. It caused the building I was in to sway. I'll never forget the Oklahoma city bombing.
💕
I still wonder about alot of the first responders especially him. He did look so broken. 😒
That always hit me with a gut punch too.
💕
Hi Sumer- you live just a bit from where Garth lived- I’m 100 miles south. I have friends who were in the blast also. This is so striking- a beautiful tribute! We’ve texted before remember? Hap has spread his wings and is amazing! Yes?
@@lindastodola691 yes I remember you! He sure is spreading his wings! ❤️
I had some friends living there. Their house shook.
There are 3 musical voices I have heard who stopped me in my tracks and changed my life. Freddie Mercury, Garth Brooks, and eminem.
And Karen Carpenter
interesting.... same for me... never met anyone who had the same list....
@@spfisterer3651 Yes, looking at it, it is a strange list, but completely true. I think when historians look back, they may agree. You and I must have either grown up at the same time, or have some connection. Lol!
Yessss. It's their emotions.
@Hap3speakz you want chills? Find the video of when he sang this at the Grammys that year. Bone chilling and makes me tear up even more.
HAP! A SINCERE HEARTWARMING REACTION, THANK YOU!❤🙏
Here is part of an article on what happened
"McVeigh set domestic terrorism on a new course 25 years ago when his truck bomb slaughtered 168 innocent people and injured 800 more in the Oklahoma City bombing.
💕
Almost forgotten since 9/11. With all those little kids killed in the daycare center. :'(
April 19th is my bday. Also was the day the FBI burned down Waco,TX.
You really need to listen to the dance...it is one of his best.
He got a song you need to check out call “ we shall be free” the song is about get rid of racism
Just so u know Garth is a Oklahoma boy born and raised. So the Oklahoma bombings really hit home for him.
I cry every time I hear this. The kids were at the lower level and rescue teams could tell that there were many kids between the levels. I think about that trauma and I'm not a fan of cops or even kids.
As far as I know, some of the window shots were from an actual house he owns
One of my favorite songs of all time. I’m no Garth Brooks! But I karaoke this one quite a bit!
What an amazing message from the song and you, Hap! One can never judge by looks. He gave a beautiful voice to the grief and sadness we all felt and still feel when tragedies like these happen. Excellent selection for a reaction, and especially poignant for even the tough issues of our current state of affairs in the world.
💕
Thank you...it's been a long time since I've experienced this song and video. Words and accompaning images are poignant. Yes, Garth can sing! He also had crazy fun concerts back in the day.
I thank you for posting this, been meaning to watch it lately. Garrh"s an amazing singer. I've listened to all his work throughout a good chunk of my Life.
Would love to get your reaction to Standing Outside the Fire and We Shall Be Free
Please listen to his “If Tomorrow never comes “ and “ unanswered prayer” both beautiful!
Garth Brooks is from Oklahoma and I believe these videos are from the Oklahoma City bombing . God love our first responders.
I remember this bombing like it was yesterday. I was in my Senior year when we heard the news
Garth is from Oklahoma
You might like the C&W cover version of "Crazy little thing called love" by Dwight Yoakam
Love Dwight Yoakam.... Fast as You is my favorite
It was Oklahoma bombing
Heartbreaking. Terrible what Timothy McVeigh did. Soldiers don't turn on their own country
Check out “I will sail my vessel “…. You’ll LOVE it!
Amazing lyrics right?
Correct 🤯

It made a difference to that one didn't it?
I think no matter where you're from and what religion you believe in,no matter what colours of skin we are,"which is ridiculous anyway we,re all human I love every skin colour including my ghost white body 😁"😒🙄bored of that narrative "..we all have empathy in us, we,re all God's children full stop ✋ ❤, it's heartbreaking to see so many lives murdered by nonsense or nonsensical reasons,we will always ask why???..that's the burning question and we know it will never be answered, at least truthfully 🙄
