Hey guys, that's me in this video. I wanted to correct a couple of mistakes when I misspoke, if you'll allow me... 🙂 1) At 1:44 I meant to say "second nature" not "second hand," as in, I can help a writer work on building their unique voice until it becomes natural to them. 2) At 4:42 I meant to say "Internal" rather than "External" when I talk about the second engine/line of action with, for example, the protagonist reuniting with their spouse. Thanks for listening.

Appreciate you speaking. I kind of don't have intentions for becoming a writer( I want to direct) but I've started writing a short film so a buddy and I can produce it and I direct

Thanks for those clarifications, Daniel. And thank you and Karen for an excellent discussion of a difficult-to-articulate (or quantify) topics - tone, style, motivation - that are crucial to great screenwriting.

@@Respect2theFallen You don't have to write to direct, but it's very hard to find great material on your own, so I'd suggest you work on your screenwriting craft. At the least, you will learn story skills, which of course will help you as a director. As a director, you not only need to understand how to direct actors and come up with great shots, but you need to understand pacing, which will ultimately be executed by editing but begins on the page. Imho. Good luck!

Re-read. I write. I come back. And every time, I have something to change. And sometimes I feel like In waisting my time.

Making the protagonist the main character. They tell me other characters have more conflict than the main.

I want to know how he feels about studio Ghibli storytelling.

@dotails I can't say I've seen enough Miyazaki films to really comment upon his story structure. Does he not use standard structure?
