    In india we've been doing this since like Galaxy S2/S3 days. I've done so many repairs on my own phones without these fancy tools/machines. I used a hair dryer and a blade to gently remove the glass, IPA to clean the glue off, LOCA and manual alignment for gluing and a nail polish UV light to set the glue.

  • @TooLittleContra
    @TooLittleContra หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I don't know if PRG will see this comment but I myself am really interested in the refurbishment of devices and screens. I watch a lot of videos from Rewa Tech and in one of their videos of glass replacement, they explicitly mentioned not to press the glass/screen when aligning the glass on the screen in the mold as you did at 7:34. They even showed that when you press the glass and screen before putting it in the machine, it came out with bubbles in it even after debubbling and lamination. If you just place the glass on top, properly aligning it, it will come out without any bubbles. Rewa Tech has really good tutorials.

I remember a few years ago i stumbled upon a channel called ECDIY (shoutouts to them) who started making advancements in this field (or at least tried to popularize them) by hand, and I always wished this kind of repair would take off, so I'm really glad you could popularize it for a big audience!
    It's cool to see that nowadays, whole machines exist to assist with these repairs. If we can standardize and shorten this whole process someday, we could revolutionize phone display repair
    One thing to remember is that the new glass probably wont be as strong as the old one, so its good to use a screen protector once it's replaced 👍

    Amazing video.
    I used to work at a screen refurbishing/tech shop, and, the process doesn't take 6-8 hours. One of our core revenue streams was to get the iPhone from the customer, and refurbish their screen for 50% of the price Apple charges for a screen replacement. It usually was a 45 to 60 minute job, IF and only IF the polarizer layer was damaged while removing the glass and needed to be replaced. If it didnt, we could roll a screen out every 30 minutes. Not sure how long the machine you have in the video takes, but the lamination process on the machine we had usually took 1 minute to complete. The most tedious and delayed part of the process was getting the OCA cleaned off.
    Still, this was our bread and butter and we had about 100k into machinery and infrastructure. The fact alone that you are being able to do this in your house, is amazing
    The wire was handled by 2 rollers that moved back and forth while you pushed the hot plate towards the wire, so removing the glass was about 30 to 45 seconds
    Cleaning was about 15 minutes
    We had multi layer molds, more like a guide, first layer is a solid aluminium block, then next layer is an aluminum guide sheet, in there we put a rubber block, then another guide sheet, on top of the guide sheet goes the OCA, then another guide sheet, and then the glass on top, in goes to the vacuum press to be fused together. This was about 3 minutes to assemble, and 1 minute for the machine to do it's thing
    After the glass and the OCA were fused, a different rubber block was installed on the solid aluminium block, then a different guide, for the screen, then another guide, then the glass&OCA assembly. There's a bit of cleaning on the screen here to make it spotless after putting it on the guide. Assembly and cleaning was about 5 minutes. In it goes to the vacuum press for another minute, and that's it, about 25 minutes. If the polarizer was damaged, removing the old one, cleaning, and installing a new one, would add about 25 minutes to the process, but remove the 15 minute cleaning step on the normal process as the new polarizer is already clean. So it's more like adding 10 minutes

  • @jeffjeffgames
    @jeffjeffgames 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Although this process can save a lot of money, it is also important to note that you have to be very very careful with the OLED panel beneath the glass. The panel itself has a fragile layer that when a wire is cut through too low, it can strip the layer, This damage will keep the actual display intact but will reveal a gold panel underneath. The display itself will still work completely however there will be a gold spot from where you cut too deep. Remember it's always important to go practice on your own on some useless or already broken displays before you attempt this on a much more important or a customer's phone. At the end of the day, it's always better to break a worthless screen in the present so you don't have to deal with issues later on.
    Side note, if you want easier practice, Apple Watch displays don't really require that much of a setup and are much easier to separate the digitizer from the panel. Also, you won't need a lamination machine for the OCA glue which will be much much more expensive and you can instead just use some Liquid OCA (LOCA) along with a UV curing light. GL y'all!

    I know of a business that just deals with screen refurbishment (great business btw). They've good experience and it takes maybe an hour or even less to refurbish a single screen which is worth it. When it's busy the place turns into a money minting machine. And also you can use the wire holder instead of chopping of the fingers.

    I do this at my work
    The most annoying thing is you can't stick the Glass and LCD 2x, so if you don't have a mount to put the LCD and Glass in 1 job sticking with precision with the LCD, you can't just remove it because it's tilted a little, you might damage the LCD.
    A lot of the LCDs I work on are android, so the screen size is different for each phone and type and there is no mount that fits, I usually install it with precision using the Frame from the phone itself

    During relamination, creating a vacuum would make the bubbles bigger and help them want to escape the glass. Creating higher pressure should make it so any remaining small bubbles are forced to be significantly smaller so they’re not visible in the glue. It shouldn’t be making them actually go away. They’re just sealed in.

    Are there any aftermarket sapphire glasses out there for the iPhone or other phones in general? BC honestly, if there was a way to get a sapphire glass fused to a phone you could make infinitely more durable screens in the process and justify the tedious repair job... I mean surely there are manufacturers in China (or elsewhere) that could custom cut sapphire screens in low quantities. Together with the steel and carbon backplates you showed recently this could make for a super durable iPhone...

    There is 3 way to repair lcd
    1:change the glass like this video
    2:change the lcd but the important massage will go up and u can use software to hack into the phone and the phone will think its the original screen kinda like battery too there is battery hack can show the battery health but its not the original battery
    3: change the lcd take the chip of the old lcd and copy the old lcd for the true tone function and blower the chip back to new lcd…. In that way u have the truetone and no important massage will go up
    I like use the 3rd method 😄😄😄

    For newer phones like 13 pro max n so on, replacing the entire screen(authorized apple parts,not 3rd party one like gx n stuff on aliexpress) is costly and usually is the last resort when the display is broken
    If the display is not broken, then it’s better to just replace the glass and touch sensor if it’s been damaged.

  • @ItsKngG

    I'm a mobile phone repairs tech and one of the steps I cringed on was when he applied the new glass, if your work space is even a tiny bit dusty, DO NOT (and I repeat) DO NOT PUT THE GLASS IN THE MOLD AND PLACE THE OLED OVER IT
    If you want the best possible result, place the OLED in the mold (which is what its designed for). Clean it up good, id recommend getting a Green Light Dust Detector as that's gonna help you even more
    THEN apply the new glass with the OCA glue already on, be careful not to touch the back of the glass with the OCA glue cause that finger print will be permanent and isn't coming away!

    This process has many cons too. Personally me and my cousin have gotten just the glass replaced and we'll it fucked up the display. The display started to auto operate and lose touch sensitivity from time to time. So from experience this repair process is not very reliable. Note got the glass replaced on different phones and different repair shops but similar issues with all of them.

    Great Video, However you don't need the machine to screen refurbish like you said, you can just use a razor and heta gun and fishing line to remove the hold screen and to glue the new screen on you use not a glass with preinstalled glue, plain glass and apply your own UV activated LOCA glue, and as liquid will naturally force out any bubbles.
