Your music has inspired me and a lot and ive made some small changes in my life that have made my life better recently everysong is a little wake up call
This has helped me back away from my head/inner voice since I laid my 22 year old son, my Marine to rest in 2014. I get the suicidal through, but my religious beliefs keeps me going. I just love seeing my brain fighting me in video.
I've suffered from mental health issues for 40+ years. This young man put words to feelings I've had that I've never been able to. He is a true gift to humanity.
My daughter has an autoimmune disease like Ren and this absolutely broke my heart when I first heard it. The disease causes such pain that it causes psychosis. It’s a vicious circle. This song made me literally break down for my daughter. This is what she goes through. So I have to be her light. As much as God will allow. To all who struggle, I love you. And you aren’t alone. God Bless.
I'm sorry to hear your daughter is sick. I'm disabled by a combination of autoimmune and neurological conditions, so I know how hard it is to be chronically ill. But having a strong support system can make all the difference. My relationship with my mom is complicated, but I appreciate how much she tries to understand what I'm going through. She has also advocated for me in situations when I was too sick to advocate for myself, like when I was in the hospital for Lyme disease and they were delaying my treatment for bullshit reasons and she had to yell at them to give me the medication. I'm thankful she was able to do that when I was unable to do it myself. So, when it comes to advocating for your daughter, be tenacious. Be her rock. BUT, don't forget to take care of yourself too. Being a caregiver is hard (I did it professionally for years, before I got too sick to work) and it can drain you. So remember to take time out for yourself too. :) All my best to you and your daughter. Take care!
Now you know he's talented. As you listen, you'll discover that no two performances are alike. The depth of his creativity, and the breadth of his talent is amazing. He's not a performer that you hear one piece, you know who they are. Not even close.
Ren is an independent artist with no label (his choice). Produces and makes his own beats. Many of his videos are live and one take, meaning it may have taken a few tries, but the end result is an uncut one take. As in Hi Ren which used multiple camera angles for the result.
Not saying you're wrong, but having a label does not make you a "signed artist", lots of independent artists have labels. Actually according to Billboard, and all basic music industry terminology, an artist is only considered a "signed artist" if they have a contract with one of the big three labels, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, or Warner Music Group, any other artist is listed as independent (or Indie, same thing).
@@sunshynff he actually had a deal with sony about 12 years ago, they saw him in the street n signed him up, but he got sick with lyme disease and had to terminate the contract
@@jameskelley-w8h.....No he really didn't, he had a deal with Eric Appapoulay, who was the former guitarist for Neneh Cherry and bass player for Plan B. Eric often scouted young talent for Sony. Eric discovered Ren busking, they hit it off and were in the process of creating a band, while Eric also had Ren sign whats like a precursory agreement type thing with Sony, as a solo artist, meaning the artist puts together a catalogue of songs for Sony to look and decide if they want to bring them on fully as a signed artist. When Ren got too sick to play live, Eric suggested he take some time off to rest, after Ren got even more sick, he phoned Eric and said he couldn't play anymore, and to cancel the precursory agreement with Sony. Half the tracks for Freckled Angel, Ren's first album, were songs he was developing for Eric and the band they put together, or for Sony. Eric graciously gave Ren full ownership of that music and didn't hassle him with any contractual BS. To this day Ren is very appreciative of Eric, and even Sony.
@@carolinesser-miles6608...Vinyl!!??? LOL, good one, sorry to burst your bubble, but that is just abjectly false where did you hear that?? You don't have to work with a label to have a distribution company made your CD's or vinyl for you, and like I said, you can have a label and still be independent, did you not read my full comment??? It wasn't that long. That's not taking anything away from Ren, He's still an independent artist, but like I said, there are many many levels of independent artists out there today. With how busy Ren is just with his career, not to mention him taking care of his physical and mental health, coupled with the amount of sales he's up to, no way in hell he is doing his own distribution any longer, that was in the very early days he did that. In fact he talks about his distribution company he uses in one of the interviews he's done of late. You need to check your sources, quit listening to rumors and hearsay, or learn how the music business actually works in reality.
Glad you checked it out. Great reaction. I always get a bit nervous when I see group reactions. Always a chance that there’ll be a lot of talking over the song/video. Really appreciate that you stayed focussed and paid attention. Great feedback at the end too.
Excellent reaction! I'm sure others will post in much more detail about Ren's story, I will just say this was his real experience, as you surmised. Great job!
Nicely done guys. It's so easy for us guys when we watch something serious and deep like this to deflect w/ jokes especially when we're in large groups but you guys did a great job of paying attention and taking it seriously. Welcome aboard the Ren train. This was shot live (he's mic'd and his guitar is plugged in) w/ multiple cameras and it was a 1 take (as w/ a lot of his vids). It took them 3-4 tries to get it. If you want to see his true rapping talent check out The Hunger or Genesis. If you want to see something else emotional check out Su!cide or For Joe, written in large part about a friend of his he lost when he was young. If you want to see his singing range check out some of his stuff w/ Chinchilla or something w/ his band The Big Push specifically I Shot the Sheriff (not the music video). Then there's Sick Boy and some deeper wild stuff like Animal Farm. Old school vibe stuff like What You Want or Power. He's got a bit of everything and it's all awesome. I'm still finding new stuff. He writes and produces his own music and does his own beats, etc.
Great reaction, can’t wait to see which one you do next. As many others have said, I also believe that he is the most versatile and relatable artist today. Once you go down the rabbit hole, you won’t regret it!
That was one take…. Live! Notice the mic on him, then at the end he unplugged his guitar. Most of rens stuff is one take. Enjoy the Ren Rollercoaster 😊❣️
Sick boi would be a good follow up to this. This video us shot in the same room as Hi Ren. Rens got bars, flows, cadences.... It actually refreshing to see an artist lay it out there like he does
Ren just released a video of an older live stage performance of “Hi Ren;” it is worth checking out. I wrote this introduction to Ren when I first discovered him earlier this year, as there wasn't a Wikipedia entry for people to look him up prior to March 2023. I have posted this info to every "Hi Ren" reaction I have come across since, and I hope it will be of some use to the uninitiated. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered over 16 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Many of Ren's songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren's music videos are frequently recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. In the case of "Hi Ren," it took four takes, all live in the room, to get the footage he wanted. Someone commented that Samuel Perry-Falvey who filmed "Hi Ren," talks about the production of the video in the comments of Jonathan Hiller's (Filmmaker Reacts) reaction to the song. According to him, this video footage is not a one-take per se, but the audio was recorded live in a single take. Ren's release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren" and appears to have been filmed in the same room. Ren is an independent artist/singer/songwriter/busker/producer from Brighton, UK. He plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, melodica, drums), has impressive vocals, produces all his own beats, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern-day bard; he calls his music "bardcore." Ren's earliest recordings on TH-cam are from his time in a band called "Trick The Fox," consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren's onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is "The Mash Up." Here is the link: The Mash Up - TRICK THE FOX Ren's trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master's class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal. Ren's collaborations with Chinchilla ("Chalk Outlines," "How to Be Me," "Sexual Healing," "One Dance/Drunk in Love") are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," "Diazepam," "Penitence," "Dear God," "Heretic," "Dominos," his "Freckled Angels" album, in particular his song "Fire," just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren is about to shoot "Money Game Part III." Ren's Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out "The Hunger," "Genesis," "What You Want," "Losing It (FISHER rap retake)," "Right Here, Right Now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake)," "Life is Funny," "Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3)," "Crucify Your Culture," "Power," "Hold On," "Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake)," his recent release "The Illest Of Our Time," and his latest song "Animal Flow," both the full production and the live acoustic version. Ren's performances with Sam Tompkins ("Blind Eyed," "Earned It /Mans World / Falling," "Walking on the Moon/No Diggity," "Feeling Good/Trouble So High/Masterblaster (Jammin')," "Latch," "Wild Thoughts/Crazy in love (Live Session)," "Same Old Situation (Live, feat. Ren)," "Improvising Around Stevie Wonder," "Live in the Streets of Brighton, UK," "What Went Wrong" Part I&II) are definitely a must. Also, his collaborations with Eden Nash ("Humble," "Ocean"), Bibi ("Crutch," "Ahiahiaoha"), Molly McKinna ("Penitence"), Orlean ("Jessica"), his former bandmate Romain Axisa ("French Song"), are all great. Last but not least, Ren's busking sessions with Liv Sangster are awesome. I recently discovered that Ren also recorded a cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover)," which is simply beautiful. "The Big Push" (Ren Gill, Gorran Kendall, Romain Axisa, and Glen Chambers) busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are amazing and well worth checking out. All but the drummer sing lead vocals at times. Ren, Gorran, and Romain all play multiple instruments. Ren plays acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, and drums. Gorran plays acoustic, electric, bass guitar, and harmonica. Romain plays acoustic, electric, bass guitar, ukulele, and piano. They are each incredibly gifted artists, and their solo work is completely different from each other. Well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," "Watch Out," "War Pigs," "Roadhouse Blues," "My Generation," "Paint It Black," "An Englishman in New York," "Bongo Bong" are excellent. On "These Boots Are Made For Walking'/Satisfaction/Everybody," "Praise You" (Fatboy Slim Cover), and "What Kind Of Woman Is This," all three take a turn singing. The songs "Oh My Woman," "Swan Song," "Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Dignity," and so many others are equally impressive. The band, at least for the time being, performed their last official busking session and gave their last concert in September of last year (2022) due to the fact that Ren was leaving for Canada to undergo specialized medical care and surgeries for his multiple health issues. In anticipation of his stay in Canada, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released "Sick Boi" and "Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake)," which is another masterful work. Ren released his song, "Illest Of Our Time," on his birthday, March 29. His recent release, "Animal Flow," is out now in two versions, a full-production music video and a live, one-take acoustic version. Ren's release, "Su!cIde," recently premiered, and it was hard to watch to the point that I was not able to watch or listen to it again. I was not even able to watch a single reaction to it. It is a sad, haunting, gut-wrenching tribute to Ren's friend Joe who took his own life. Ren’s follow-up to “Su!cIde,” "To Joe," is also sad and emotional, but strangely enough, it has had a healing effect on me and has given me a sense of closure. Even the lyrics that "gutted" me in "Su!cIde" impacted me differently this time around.
Perfectly said and a beautiful biography and introduction to REN. I thank you for writing that out. You included damn near everything, the only thing I would add to your introduction is that "Ren was discovered busking (street performing) by Sony (I believe at 17). Not long after is when he was bitten by a tick and began to experience symptoms of Lyme disease. Unbeknownst to him and the many doctors who attempted to treat him he went improperly diagnosed for I believe 10 years. Lyme disease left untreated is catastrophic and does irreversible damage to the brain, body, triggers autoimmunity and can be fatal. Meanwhile, he was given a multitude of different diagnosis. Which meant different drugs and treatments of which none were correct, inadvertently creating new physical and mental problems that he still has to contend with today. In the past he has had episodes of psychosis and mental breakdowns. Not long after getting signed with Sony he was dropped from the label because he wasn't able to perform." " Imagine being scouted off of the street, getting signed with Sony and then out of nowhere coming down With an unknown illness, getting dropped and losing everything. What unimaginable grief and torment for any young person to have to deal with. Just as his music career was about to take off he got sick. Ren says that due to his sickness with Lyme disease he spent sometimes up to 20 hours a day for years in bed unable to get up.That torture would be enough to break any average man's spirit, but not Ren. He didn't stop writing music and he never gave up and it sure is paying off now. 😊 The incredible story of Ren's life, from the physical and mental pain he was unjustly subjected to, the grief of losing it all and then the come back. Finally getting the right diagnosis, making peace and coming to acceptance of what happened. Now healing has begun and he has taken TH-cam and people all over the world by storm with 'HI REN'. He is finally being recognized for his genius and once people know his story they love him even more. I have never witnessed so many die-hard fans of any artist, ever! There's no one else I can think of who deserves this recognition more. Ren is the Shakespeare of our time. He is the artist that the world didn't know that they needed and his timing couldn't have been more perfect. All of this adds to his relateablesness. He is authentic and his struggles add the depth and his complexity shades everything that he creates." As I like to tell everyone: "Welcome to the RENaissance." ❤ As a fellow fan and one who enjoys watching first time reactions to REN'S music I thank you again for taking the time to write that out. It has been such a pleasure watching Ren's Channel blow up and him finally being recognized for the genius that he is. And we all love reliving that first time discovering Ren as we get to do through these reactions. Doesn't matter what country you live in, young or old, what kind of music you're into. Ren brings people from every walk of life together that (nobody I can think of) are able to do today. We are blessed to share this Earth with him, each other. Through this technology we are able to enjoy music together from all parts of the world. We are blessed.
@@Nadia_Knows I appreciate your detailed comment. I actually give that background information in my second comment to the reaction. Ren is truly amazing and deserves all the success that is finally coming his way. Have a blessed day.
Been waiting to see you all discover Ren! Super dope reaction! Ren is so talented. He can play every style of music, many instruments, sings, raps (like rap raps), and produces all his own beats! Check more out!!
Welcome to the start of the Ren roller coaster. It's one hell of a ride. He has been making music for more than a decade and seems to touch the hearts of listeners like no other. And he can rap with the best of them as well as sing, write, produce, direct, and play multiple instruments. Others have already filled you in on his years being misdiagnosed and pumped full of drugs his body didn't need all while his body was being destroyed from the inside out.
I know you're not saying what I'm about to respond with, but I just think it's important for people to know that they're not broken if they do need medication. Although, it is incredibly important to get multiple opinions so that you aren't misdiagnosed. Unfortunately, sometimes, it can't be helped.
Great reaction. Your willingness to engage with the message of the song and easily understanding the creativity and message won me over. Ren is an artist’s artist. I hope you keep reacting.cheers. New subscriber from Tasmania, Australia 👋👋🦘🦘🐨✌🏼🇦🇺
@@nspreacts No worries, mate! Glad to be here. You guys are switched on. Keep Ren reactions coming. REN’s LIVE one-take trilogy of ‘The Tale of Jenny and Screetch and Violet’s Tale (FULL version)’ is epic rap/beat poetry/music/acting. It’s a phenomenal piece of music and camera work by Sam Perry-Falvey. I think it’s filmed in the streets of Brighton (South coast of the UK). Cheers guys. 🐨🦘✌🏼
Your reaction was summed up in the silence and intensity of your faces during the epilogue. Mental disease is as a result of separation wherein the mind allows for infiltration of doubt and disillusionment. What we all need is LOVE..of ourselves and of others and of God.
Pretty much my same first reaction to this. Watched like I was punched in face with emotions and then sat there and wondered wtf did I just witness. This piece was and always will be magic.
Yeah, y'all gonna need to buckle your seatbelts if you gonna keep doin Ren. He's like digging into your bag after going trick or treating as a kid. You don't know what you're gonna grab next. This cat is for real! His personal issues are legit and he wears his heart on his sleeve. In spite of all that he is a prolific self producer, singer, song writer, multi instrumental musician, and a damn fine rapper! But don't take my word for it, find out yourself. 💯
Yeah I really like the respect you all gave to Ren by focusing and not all tripping out when he does the OOOW Oo Oow's at the beginning. Well done you guys give me hope for better days ahead.
it's always funny at the beginning people look like WTF is this when he does the ooooo oo oooo sounds, but by the end when it repeats, every reactor starts bobbing their heads like, yeeeaaahhhh
This video was a live one take performance. Just Ren, Pig Man, Cameras & Lighting. The Ren rabbit hole (solo and those he colaborates with) is a very enjoyable journey. Try out his duets with Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins and his band The Big Push. Ren has been in Calgary for most of the last year getting treatment for Lyme Disease. He is currently back in the UK for a short while before returning to Canada for more trearment.
OK. Great reaction. I would love for you all to react together to 'Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)' by Ren. You will be shocked at the end. For rap, Ren has a ton of videos. I suggest you watch 'Sick Boi' then 'Money Game I and II' then 'Right Here Right Now'. For Money Game II make sure it's the official vidoe and not the acapella version. Watch the latter if you want but the video is important due to visuals.
So glad I stumbled across this tonight. Very much appreciated and enjoyed your thoughtful reactions and how engaged you all were. Subbed and looking forward to hearing your perspectives on future Ren songs. It’s quite a ride. I’ve never known another artist who so thoroughly crosses almost every genre, much less one that could do so at the level of raw talent he brings to each performance.
I have watched pretty much every Hi Ren reaction video and that guy on the right was the first one(me included) that mentioned him looking at his own name(himself). Great catch! The reactor Black Pegasus shows his guests what he calls the "Ren Rollercoaster", where he introduces them to Ren with 3 songs, always beginning with Hi Ren, in order to show the range of Ren's music. His 2nd song is almost always "I shot the sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop", which is an absolute F*****G banger and that is a stand alone amazing song/video. My suggestion is that the order really doesn't matter after Hi Ren, but "Losing It" will guaranteed blow you away. Got a new sub fella's. Big ups from Humboldt County.
That first guitar piece had me, too! And every moment you think you've categorized this artist, you will be wrong. I needed it. He needed it. A lot of people need to hear this. We can be students; not victims. So very many people feel alone. We have more in common than we realize. This is the raw truth, coming out of Shakespeare, with a guitar.
Great job, guys. I've watched a lot of Ren reactions and this was one of the best. Insightful comments and it's good that you watched the whole performance without constantly pausing the video. I look forward to more. Subbed.
You should do some more Ren... for me the most fascinating part ... as soon as you think you have a handle on his music or his genre he does something completely different. I'm starting to think he's trying every genre. What makes it even more compelling is he does them all really, really well. He has some fun ones where he's basically just flexing his skills and some that make me cry every time I watch but they are all amazing.
My favourite genre is Ren 😂 Absolutely enthralled by how he can bend genres and code switch...even within any given track, let alone between tracks. You can tell he just loves music, has never wanted to constrain what he consumes let alone what he puts out to the world.
He helped me understand my depression. What he says at the end is spot on. I learned that yea, sometimes I fall into a depressed period, but I learned to love myself. Instead of spiraling deeper into the depression I learned to live with it. I'm aware when it happens and I do my best to not put myself down, it'll pass..and it always does. It made me more aware of good things that happen to me too. I try to live in the moment, especially during good times, and I try not to worry about tomorrow.
A little something I've put together since I found Ren's music; part person who found hope again, part music lover, part bafflement at the sheer talent of Ren & Friends, so without further ado; Welcome to the RENaissance For Bardcore - check out the 3 part Tale of Jenny & Screech If you want to dive more into the rap side of his catalogue, I'd start with "What You Want" which is a brilliant homage to the Beasties, followed with "Genesis" followed by "Sick Boy" followed by "Illest of Our Time" (this one goes after the previous one so you have some grasp of the meaning) and the trail goes from there For more rock oriented fare follow the breadcrumbs to The Big Push and dive in (I personally suggest Sweet Little Lady, Swan Song, Englishman in New York, ,'I Shot The Sherriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop', and the cherry on top (my new favorite in this category, others are welcome to disagree but they're wrong :) "Fire" Last but not least, don't be afraid to check down the alleys, Ren has built himself a circle of talented musician friends that will surprise you and make you glad you chose to look for hidden treasure (Hint: *Chinchilla, Eden Nash, Sam Tompkins, and so many more) (Also Humble w/ Eden Nash is just pure young punk/rude boy heaven) *Chinchilla: Take 1 part Christina, 1 part Jessie J, 1 part Rhianna, blend well and pour over your own unique style, served ice cold by the baddest bitch in town (See Fingers (Live), Little Girl Gone (the official video is just *fun*), Elements, One Time, and for fun Terms & Conditions which has an 80s Madonna vibe *Gorran: He's got a pretty amazing list of tunes but the LIVE version of "If' speaks to me *Romain: If you love good guitar, Romain is your guy, but if I had to pick ONE song.. it's him on a Piano - Love Without Feelings, and his newest Turn the Lights Down
This was all done in one take live they took 4 takes and chose the best. He is an extremely versatile and talented artist he does it all and produces all his music.
For REN, this was truly his reality. Misdiagnosed with Lyme disease for 7 years by conventional doctors who deemed him mentally ill, but when patients are experiencing neurological symptoms, they very often become misdiagnosed. Lyme disease can present itself as many neurological conditions including Acute Transverse Myelitis[3], Ptosis[4], Seizures, and Chronic Fatigue[1] and these symptoms can be often misdiagnosed or deemed psychosomatic. Second is dealing with the symptoms of Lyme neuroborreliosis, these neurological symptoms often leave patients feeling drained and debilitated as they begin losing their quality of life. Over time, patients find themselves unable to do the things they love as they struggle to get ahead of their progressing symptoms.
You guys should see Rens Band The Big Push. They do a compilation cover called The Big Push I Shot the Sherrif/Road to Zion/HipHop. Our guy is versatile as hell.
I am a 61 year old man , and I like a lot of music types , mostly Metal , Soul , and blues . This Kid is a fucking Genius , better than anyone I have heard yet . He is a singer , Musician , rapper , songwriter , actor , Poet , man , I don't think he has any limits , but this will be hard to top ! I am glad you guys reacted like I did , he should be on the top of the charts !
Thanks guys for sharing joy and hope to so many who may find exactly what they need right here thru your message. I truly appreciate your candor and enthusiasm!
This is one of the most powerful and heart felt performance in almost all of time. The truth, honesty, and emotion are so felt in the way he explains it. RESPECT 💯 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ we all battle something within us on a daily basis. Our battles do not define us our triumphs do, especially battle your inter demons.❤❤❤
There is a huge army of REN fans waiting to subscribe boys, look how far Black Pegasus has come in 6 months. As REN says “a rising tide carries all ships”, keep the reactions coming. The Hunger next will have you questioning what talent is.
Great reaction guys, you really got it, and your focus on the video was obvious and great to see that Ren really sucked you in and grabbed your attention... Your comments were very inciteful and much appreciated. I really hope you react to more Ren's solo work and his band 'The Big push' You wont be disappointed..
@@nspreacts it’s a trilogy. Ren has all 3 videos posted separately, so just make sure you choose the The Tales if Jenny & Screech” (13min one), because they are best watched back to back and in correct order to fully get the story. It’s also something that you have to listen to closely, to catch all the details. Can’t wait to see your reaction.
This is closest you get to experiencing this for the 1st time.. the intensity you guys viewed this with, the joy you feel as the song builds to its crescendo then realisation that this is something from the top shelf of creativity. Its is in truth the dogs bollocks of a tune.
Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. None of the information was gathered from sources that Ren did not personally approve for release to the public. Ren is a British musician/independent artist/producer; originally from Wales. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada, for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel; if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Ren's YT channel has less than 1 million subscribers, while his videos have garnered millions and millions of views. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.
You lads are a real find. Thanks for a great reaction and have subscribed in the hope that you go on a Ren journey. Believe me when I say that EVERYTHING he has put out is uniquely game changing. Everything. Happy Ren-ing!
Ren is an artist well worth diving in to. Extremely talented and have the ability to use the words and have a lot to say. Kudos to him and kudos to you, a bunch of young men that got his message.
I love watching the different reactions to RENs music. Please watch more guys you will realise what an incredible talented individual he is. People like REN come once into your life if you are lucky.
Great viewing guys, lots more to explore with Ren, he is an incredibly versatile artist. His life story will give you some insight to a number of his songs. Look forward to your reactions to REN, The big Push, Sam Tomkins, Chinchilla etc 👊🏽
it's unreal to keep watching reaction videos to this song and to watch everyone just gobsmacked at the end. I love how these five guys needed a moment to collect themselves. Fascinating!
Great reaction Guys. Ren was misdiagnosed and given the wrong medication which messed him up neurologically. He was finally diagnosed properly with Lymes disease. Being on the wrong meds all that time let the lymes disease progression get worse. He finally went to Canada and had to undergo a stem cell treatment plan to help his body fight the lymes disease and work on his health after being on the wrong meds for an extended period of time. His music is deep and he is a phenomenal story teller. To me, this song represents the internal battle we wage within ourselves. Especially with people who grew up dealing with tremendous amounts of trauma and fighting an auto immune disease ...the unseen illnesses that those of us who are fighting but the rest of the world doesn't acknowledge because they cant see it. When i first heard the song i had to find out what his story was and who he is. His songs are like mini movies . Loved your thoughts and reaction. New subscriber!
This young man is genius. He reaches all ages. I am a 71 year old woman and I cried listening to his journey. He came through the other side and now sharing with the world a message of hope and salvation through his music. REN struggled with psychosis and contracted Lyme disease with attacks the autoimmune system.
Oh dear... I've seen pretty much watching Hi Ren-reactions since Ren released this, and yours is one of the few where I actually waited around to listen to what the reactor think about it, and listening to ya'll was giving me some kind of hope for humanity. Usually when a group of young men gather to react to this they can't take it all in; it's like an emotional implosion and they end up saying all kinds of shlt, anything but what they actually saw, heard and felt. I hope you look at more of Ren's amazing versatility and talent, because you just earned yourself a Swedish mom as new subscriber, one with strong opinion, colorful language and somewhat violent tendencies, and I for sure would nothing more than to see you react to more Ren. 😸 It was a true pleasure to get to experience Hi Ren through your eyes. Thank you, all! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 Much love From STHLM, Sweden
This song has become a life preserver for me. 50+ years of battling health and mental health I thought I was done. But resetting it as a dance, maybe I can dance one more time. Thanks for this reaction guys. There are people out there who don't know how much they need to hear this. Sharing this with your audience is a good thing.
You guys are in for a real treat! This dude is changing music and changing the world! Get into his catalog!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm waiting for your next Ren reaction!
New sub here. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. You all really get it. I’m looking forward to catching more. His band, The Big Push, is crazy good and well worth checking out, but Ren himself has a pretty decent portfolio and diverse like no one I’ve heard before, and i’m pushing 60. Respect to you all! Later!
Really like your reactions. This song hits home for me and I imagine a lot of us. It’s the internal struggle with our own mental illness or demons as it were. Thank you for showing respect to the artist and getting his message
This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me… just as this song also resonates. As a person who’s never been able to escape imposter syndrome and negative self-talk, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that I *know* I have-was sooo important. It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it. *Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison. You are *stronger* than that voice. You are stronger than you can *possibly* know… until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.
Great insight and professional approach to breaking down, not everyone can like his music but appreciate talent. Thank you and you have a nes sub. Going to checkyour other work. TY from UK
Great reaction from all of you, super fun to watch thanks. I think Ren is showing us that we need to share an objective reality that acknowledges we are all human beings living on this planet together. Our brains are our greatest strength and we only nurture the intellectual side and haven't really evolved emotionally. Billions on the planet still live in fight or flight mode, despite having the resources to feed, clothe, shelter and nurture every mind on the planet. Our potential as a species has barely been tapped.
People often make the mistake of thinking this is just about mental illness. It is partly about that but it's central theme is the human condition. The light and the dark are constantly with us and until we accept this fact, we can't properly deal with the issues that arise from it. You can't banish the dark. It's part of who we are as humand beings and dealing with the dark things in our lives, shapes us as people, just as much as the good things in our lives. What's more the dark things often have positive outcomes, that we may not have reached any other way. An example... My mother died of cancer when I was 6. How can there be positive outcomes from that, you may ask? It's true, there were many negative outcomes, for both me and my family and some of those negative impacts persist to this day but there weren't only negative impacts. In certain respects, the experience made me stronger and wiser, at a young age. It made the bond between my sister, my brother and myself, incredibly strong and that has remained the case. Much as it pains me to say it, it's nevertheless a fact, that my 2 younger brothers and 3 of my nieces and nephews would never have existed, as they are a result of my dad remarrying. I would never have known my stepmother's wonderful extended family, the wives of my younger brothers, or their families. A large group of people, whom I love dearly, I would never have known, or would never have existed. I'm not saying that any of this is compensation for my mum dying and the negative impacts it had on my life. It doesn't work like that. The pain doesn't go. It lessens somewhat and you learn to live with it. As Ren said, it can't be defeated. Darkness is part of the human condition. It can be mitigated at best One of the worst and most negative thing in my life brought so many positives and helped shape who I am and I'm ok with who I am. Would I want to banish that darkness? I'd lose a lot of bad things but I'd lose a lot of good things too and I'd be a completely different person. It's an impossible question to answer. What's more, as Ren said, the pendulum keeps swinging... My mum dying, horrendously negative. Stronger bond with my elder siblings as a result, hugely positive. The pain at my big brother's death, made almost unbearable by that close bond, horrendously negative. That's how the story goes, the pendulum keeps swinging. The light and dark are always there, in ways both big and small. All we can do is accentuate and appreciate the positive and mitigate and learn to live with the negative. A quick note on his health. Ren's mental health issues, even in the past when they were much more severe, are the least of his health concerns. I've waffled on enough, so I'll leave it to others to document those. He's currently in Canada, undergoing experimental treatments to try to repair some of the extensive damage to his body and brain. To finish on a positive note, you've stumbled upon an incredible and ridiculously talented artist. If you continue down this rabbit hole, you're in for a treat! Believe me, he'll confound your expectations and blow you away! His songwriting and performance skilks are amazing. He's a lyrical genius, a poet really. He has an incredible voice, capable of a range of styles and tones. He beatboxes. His rap skills are world-class. He produces everything himself, laying down his own music/beats. He's a ridiculously talented multi-instrumentalist, who plays 7 different instruments really really well. These include, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, piano/keyboard and drums! All self-taught btw! He even makes most of his own videos, in conjunction with his friend Sam. Most of these videos, like Hi Ren, are recorded live, in a single take, with no edits! He makes music in multiple genres and even has a sub-genre all of his own, 'bardcore'. :) I've been going through his back catalogue for the past few months and have yet to encounter a bad track. A dozen, at least, are bona fide masterpieces! It's not just my opinion either. Reactor after reactor, viewer after viewer and people from across the industry have been blown away by both his music and his talent. 'He never misses' and 'does he have a bad song?' are phrases you hear repeated again and again. He was signed by Sony, when he was in his late teens but they dropped him, shortly after, when he became ill. Nowadays he's determined to remain independent, so will likely never have the level of exposure and commercial success of artists signed to labels but, for Ren, it really is all about the music! Just keep on down the rabbit hole. You won't be disappointed! :)
Loved your reaction. Apologies I don’t know your names, but you were all transfixed. The guy on the right in the green did not live a muscle during this and the gu in blue, you spoke well (and you look like Marcus Rashford, from Manchester United - legend by the way) and you were all amazing and Ren is amazing and the whole world is a better place with Ren in it! Thanks. X
Appreciate the reaction guys means alot!!!
Ren is da man
Your music has inspired me and a lot and ive made some small changes in my life that have made my life better recently everysong is a little wake up call
This is one of the best reactions ive seen yet. Awestruck like the rest of the world.❤
This has helped me back away from my head/inner voice since I laid my 22 year old son, my Marine to rest in 2014. I get the suicidal through, but my religious beliefs keeps me going. I just love seeing my brain fighting me in video.
I know how it is to deal with mental illness this is the best song about that struggle
I've suffered from mental health issues for 40+ years. This young man put words to feelings I've had that I've never been able to. He is a true gift to humanity.
He's so hot right now
My daughter has an autoimmune disease like Ren and this absolutely broke my heart when I first heard it. The disease causes such pain that it causes psychosis. It’s a vicious circle. This song made me literally break down for my daughter. This is what she goes through. So I have to be her light. As much as God will allow. To all who struggle, I love you. And you aren’t alone. God Bless.
Love & Prayers to your daughter & you ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Same. My daughter diagnosed at 6, now 38. Its still an ongoing struggle but easier as an adult.
Just wait till you hear him rap-rap on The HUNGER❤
Thank y’all.
Take care!
Ren is probably the most versatile artist out right now
100%, I love NF as well but after finding Ren, he has been supplanted.
That you know of.
@@BrandonWestfall ok, put me on to something.
That you know of. I know a few that are just as versatile if not more.
@@goomymfRyan Upchurch, Tom Macdonald, The Bands Sleep Token and Falling in Reverse to name a few
Once in a lifetime, a genius ci.e along, this is REN..❤
@@sunshynffHe really doesn't work with a label though, prints his own CDs and presses his own Vinyl at the moment. He is independent in all respects
You need to check your sources, quit listening to rumors and hearsay, or learn how the music business actually works in reality.
ren is off the scales so good
Glad you checked it out. Great reaction. I always get a bit nervous when I see group reactions. Always a chance that there’ll be a lot of talking over the song/video. Really appreciate that you stayed focussed and paid attention. Great feedback at the end too.
Thanks for tuning in!
@@nspreactsyou guys are changing the game. This was a reactionni didn't know I needed
This was a one take, live performance and he produces everything himself, welcome to the Ren rabbit hole x
I think you meant to type Animal FLOW...
@badgarlicbreath8183 yep :) lots of animal farm references. Thanks!
Ren is a genius. He brought a new wave to music. He always is amazing. Thank you for the great reaction. Hug from Vietnam 🇻🇳.
A fun clip to watch is "The Mash Up." Here is the link: The Mash Up - TRICK THE FOX
Ren's trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master's class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills.
Ren is about to shoot "Money Game Part III."
Ren's Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing.
You included damn near everything, the only thing I would add to your introduction is that
"Ren was discovered busking (street performing) by Sony (I believe at 17).
Not long after getting signed with Sony he was dropped from the label because he wasn't able to perform."
" Imagine being scouted off of the street, getting signed with Sony and then out of nowhere coming down With an unknown illness, getting dropped and losing everything. 😊
The incredible story of Ren's life, from the physical and mental pain he was unjustly subjected to, the grief of losing it all and then the come back. He is authentic and his struggles add the depth and his complexity shades everything that he creates."
As I like to tell everyone: "Welcome to the RENaissance." ❤
As a fellow fan and one who enjoys watching first time reactions to REN'S music I thank you again for taking the time to write that out.

I really enjoyed the reaction, all of you seem to speak from the heart.
Thanks!

Your reaction was summed up in the silence and intensity of your faces during the epilogue. Mental disease is as a result of separation wherein the mind allows for infiltration of doubt and disillusionment. What we all need is LOVE..of ourselves and of others and of God.

More Ren please!!!! Amazing back catalogue, you can't go wrong. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
We’ll slowly crawl into that rabbit hole.
Instant sub. I'll buy a ticket take the ride into the rabbit hole with you!
Yep. He was being experimented on. Glad Ren made it through and glad y’all reacted to his truly unique composition and performance. 🤘🏼🎧🤟🏼
Make sure it's the lyric video of Money Game 2! The live one says official also.
I agree with Jenny and Screech! Pleeaase! 🥹
Subbed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Now remember this was a live performance shot with 3 cameras. Ren is a versatile musician, writer, rapper, film maker .
My favourite genre is Ren 😂
Absolutely enthralled by how he can bend genres and code switch...even within any given track, let alone between tracks.
You can tell he just loves music, has never wanted to constrain what he consumes let alone what he puts out to the world.
Great job, guys! Ren can spit some bars, too. see "the hunger"
Added to the list!
Great reaction guys, group reactions are harder as there are obviously more opinions, but you did really well here - thoughtful and considered.
I’ve seen Hi REN so many times, I just like watching the reactions, I know I was blown away the first time I saw it.
Ren is a genius. He wrote a novel for our times...a million tears of sorrow and joy are spilt in these few moments spent in his presence. Magical
Good reaction bros....pretty hard to keep 5 guys with 5 mics quiet, but he succeeded lol
A little something I've put together since I found Ren's music; part person who found hope again, part music lover, part bafflement at the sheer talent of Ren & Friends, so without further ado; Welcome to the RENaissance
For Bardcore - check out the 3 part Tale of Jenny & Screech
If you want to dive more into the rap side of his catalogue, I'd start with "What You Want" which is a brilliant homage to the Beasties,
followed with "Genesis" followed by "Sick Boy" followed by "Illest of Our Time" (this one goes after the previous one so you have some grasp of the meaning)
and the trail goes from there
For more rock oriented fare follow the breadcrumbs to The Big Push and dive in (I personally suggest Sweet Little Lady, Swan Song, Englishman in New York,
,'I Shot The Sherriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop', and the cherry on top (my new favorite in this category, others are welcome to disagree but they're wrong :) "Fire"
Last but not least, don't be afraid to check down the alleys, Ren has built himself a circle of talented musician friends that will surprise you and
make you glad you chose to look for hidden treasure (Hint: *Chinchilla, Eden Nash, Sam Tompkins, and so many more)
(Also Humble w/ Eden Nash is just pure young punk/rude boy heaven)
*Chinchilla: Take 1 part Christina, 1 part Jessie J, 1 part Rhianna, blend well and pour over your own unique style, served ice cold by the baddest bitch in town
(See Fingers (Live), Little Girl Gone (the official video is just *fun*), Elements, One Time, and for fun Terms & Conditions which has an 80s Madonna vibe
*Gorran: He's got a pretty amazing list of tunes but the LIVE version of "If' speaks to me
*Romain: If you love good guitar, Romain is your guy, but if I had to pick ONE song.. it's him on a Piano - Love Without Feelings, and his newest Turn the Lights Down
This was all done in one take live they took 4 takes and chose the best. He is an extremely versatile and talented artist he does it all and produces all his music.
Ren- the tale of Jenny and screech violet trilogy is a must.
That was intriguing. Thanks for sharing!
Tldr: wonton soup for brains
I thought he was misdiagnosed with other illnesses and then they found out it was Lyme disease?
You guys should see Rens Band The Big Push. They do a compilation cover called The Big Push I Shot the Sherrif/Road to Zion/HipHop. Our guy is versatile as hell.
You guys are gonna enjoy going down this rabbit hole! Great reaction!

I really hope you react to more Ren's solo work and his band 'The Big push' You wont be disappointed..
nice reaction....you should check the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny and Screetch" by Ren, it will blow your minds
We’ll add it to the list 🤝
@@nspreacts it’s a trilogy. Ren has all 3 videos posted separately, so just make sure you choose the The Tales if Jenny & Screech” (13min one), because they are best watched back to back and in correct order to fully get the story. It’s also something that you have to listen to closely, to catch all the details. Can’t wait to see your reaction.
Loved the reaction. Take the trip down the rabbit hole you wont regret it.. Ty
Can't wait!🤝
Time to go down the Ren rabbit hole
Stock up on tissue paper for his "suicide" song because holy shit that's a rough one
You lads are a real find. Thanks for a great reaction and have subscribed in the hope that you go on a Ren journey. Believe me when I say that EVERYTHING he has put out is uniquely game changing. Everything. Happy Ren-ing!
Thank you so much 😁
Go down the Ren rabbit hole guys, he is a genius
Ren is an artist well worth diving in to. Extremely talented and have the ability to use the words and have a lot to say. Kudos to him and kudos to you, a bunch of young men that got his message.
I love watching the different reactions to RENs music. Please watch more guys you will realise what an incredible talented individual he is. People like REN come once into your life if you are lucky.
I love Ren. I suffer autoimmune issue and the internal fight is huge. Thanks for watching and appreciating.
guy on the left was properly vibing the whole way through....respect
All of their blank stairs at the end almost brought tears to my eyes knowing that they really took it all in
Great viewing guys, lots more to explore with Ren, he is an incredibly versatile artist.
This song makes me tear up everytime, so much raw emotion battling voices in your head. This song is a stright up journey! ❤
It was a true pleasure to get to experience Hi Ren through your eyes.
Thank you, all! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Much love
From STHLM, Sweden
you're an absolute Legend.
This song has become a life preserver for me. 50+ years of battling health and mental health I thought I was done. But resetting it as a dance, maybe I can dance one more time. Thanks for this reaction guys. There are people out there who don't know how much they need to hear this. Sharing this with your audience is a good thing.
Thank you guys! Nice reaction!
Thanks for watching!
Great reaction, fellas. On point. You can't help but feel his pain.
Great reaction guys!!
Later!
Ren is phenomenal and you guys got it !
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Really like your reactions. This song hits home for me and I imagine a lot of us. It’s the internal struggle with our own mental illness or demons as it were. Thank you for showing respect to the artist and getting his message
I needed this. I relate too much. I found this song on day 2 of releasing..it's saved my life. The analogy of eternal dance....and our name is hope!!!
Love it. 5 dudes totally captivated for 9 minutes. Good thoughts on it too...hard to articulate when he leaves ya almost speechless
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are stronger than you can *possibly* know…
until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.
Great insight and professional approach to breaking down, not everyone can like his music but appreciate talent. Thank you and you have a nes sub. Going to checkyour other work. TY from UK
Thank you for tuning in and welcome aboard!
Great reaction! I feel the same. It's one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen. Ur gonna love your Ren journey.
appreciate your reflection on Hi Ren. Life aint easy, and it's harder to talk about as you said.
It can be mitigated at best
One of the worst and most negative thing in my life brought so many positives and helped shape who I am and I'm ok with who I am.
Thanks. X
