Correction, the treaty was between the local chiefs and Queen Victoria. The chiefs ceded sovereignty to the british crown. All other peoples residing in New Zealand at the time
were granted the prorection of Queen Victoria as british citizens. This bun fight is only about power of the ancestral chiefs to regain thier power over the peoples of New Zealand.
