I am a legacy athlete who competed this year and I saw Lucy on the way back when I was starting the bike. I screamed my lungs out cheering her even when I knew she probably could not hear me because of the aero helmet. I was honestly happy for her and just being racing in the same race it feel unreal. Cried like a baby watching you win Lucy. Watched every second of the race. I remember when you were on crutches saying to put every moment of frustration as a metaphorical penny into a jar to be drawn on later as motivation. It really feels like all that pain helped you on that run. Inner reserves that might not have been there without the setbacks. Everything seemed so difficult at that stage but from ‘biro in the eye-gate’ to ultimate fulfilment, glory and happiness.
