I have a gut feeling that Top Thill Dragster's refurbishment will be revealed at IAAPA in a couple weeks, giving us details on who is working on it, likely a new name, changes to the launch, and other potential additions to the ride experience.

The coaster industry is innovating. In 2010 anyone expect a new manufactured (RMC) can change the view of coaster industry. Intamin, Vekoma, and others change and improve their coasters more and more. We are in golden ages of coasters and amusement rides.

If that was the case wouldn't they be shipping the half of track that goes up the top hat? They removed all of the existing track where the launch was before. Not the top hat part of track where you're traveling vertical..

Those rings remind me of a sonic the hedgehog Rollercoaster. Combine this new launch with the trains of their rumored swing concept. Totally see A Sonic themes Rollercoaster.
You're not the first to come up with the idea of a vertical launch, just the first to propose it for an actual real-life coaster model. I've seen this done before in some Planet Coaster builds.
This would help fix Dragsters biggest flaw, inconsistency! They rate of launch is constantly changing due to winds and the environment. This would be more reliable for 1 no more guessing how fast and two no moving parts to the launch just magnets.

That's exactly what I was thinking at first. But didn't Volcano have vertical motors to get it up the inside of the Volcano. I remember the feeling being thrusted up after being pointed towards the sky. So why is this the first vertical launch? It also doesn't look that impressive unless it will be shot up 600+ feet at NASA rocket launch forces/speeds.
Intamin, I love you truly, Top Thrill Dragster is one of the best creations ever but come on...yall can't make a reliable launch on the ground, what makes you think you can make a reliable vertical launch lmao.

Intamin has disowned Dragster, they aren't involved with the project.

Don't be. Lightning Rods issue was warped wood misaligning things causing errors to go up in the launch system. Steel coasters don't have that issue
A laucnched lift hill is essentially the same as a regular launch, eg. Wicked at Lagoon, Maverick and the Mr Freeze clones
Maverick doesn’t seem to be plagued with half the issues Lighting Rod has had. I wouldn’t worry about it, they are dialing in the LSM game these days
