Yeah that's the reason why wookies live in the trees. To be safe from what's below. The further you get to the ground. The more dangerous it becomes.

well in legends plo koons master was a wookie. and before order 66 in canon there was a wookie padawan. i was just saying that i wanted to see that because the wookies and trandoshans seem to have a little bit of a hate on for eachother
They would be raised from birth in the Jedi Temple, so it wouldn't be much of an issue.
There is Wookie Padawan, in Clone Wars TV show, he even had a wooden lightsaber.

No worries. Actually what happened was Chewbacca was a slave that rebelled, and Han who was in the empire military at the time was ordered to kill him, but saved his life and fled instead. Thats why he owes Han a life debt
+johnnyscifi And the lifedebt wasn't something Han demanded, it was a part of Wookie culture. If a wookie is saved from something major like slavery or death, he or she will pledge a lifedebt to his/her hero.
I figure you already knew this, but you didn't explain the lifedebt and that could confuse someone who reads your comment and doesn't know what it is.

Wookies are quite possibly my favorite species in star wars. I love tribal cultures in science fiction and fantasy universes and the wookies fit the bill perfectly.

The meat of a Wookie youngling resembles milk chocolate in flavor, transitioning to dark chocolate in middle age and semi-sweet baking chocolate in elderly Wookies. Little fun fact, in the Timothy Zahn (Thrawn) Trilogy of books Chewbacca takes Liea to Kashyyyk in an attempt to hide her from potential kidnappers. They meet with another Wookiee, an ambassador/administrator of a local village. Liea has never spoken with any other Wookiee before this and turns to Chewbacca and says (something along the lines of) "So all this time you've been speaking with a speech impediment?" because she always found it hard to understand Chewie, but could understand the ambassador perfectly. The Wookiee ambassador/administrator quickly corrects her saying that he is the one with the speech impediment, normally it is a disadvantage among other wookiees, but those like him with the same disadvantage are often in demand for negotiations, diplomacy, and other communications with humans because their version of speaking Shywrook is easier for human ears to understand.

Little fun fact, in the novel The Courtship of Princess Liea, a younger Yoda (still only a Jedi Knight at the time) appears in the recording of a Holocron that Luke discovers. In it Jedi Knight Yoda is reporting to the Jedi Counsil that their mission failed and that they were repelled by "the witches of Dothimyr" and it motivates Luke to try and find that planet. The newer 3D-animated Clone Wars series does NOT portray Dothimyr or its inhabitants correctly, considering Disney's contempt for the EU. So this little tidbit of Yoda history supposedly isn't "real" Star Wars anymore. =(

Theres a wookie jedi who speaks basic and it has always annoyed me.
Blame Disney for their lazy production staff and (sometimes) unimaginative writers. If I remember correctly (I forgot what source it came from) Wookiees are not capable of human speech because their vocal chords and voice boxes and mouths are not capable of making the proper sounds. The Young Jedi Knights series of novels introduce Chewbacca's nephew, Lowbacca, that trains to become a Jedi with Han and Liea's twins (Jacen & Jaina Solo) along with Tenel Ka, the daughter of Tenel Djo and Prince Isolder from the Courtship of Princess Liea novel. Lowbacca uses the tiny droid M-TD (that he sometimes wears on his bandoleer) to translate for him.
