Got my second UX/UI job last week in big part thanks to you and all your advice man. I remember working at a warehouse 5 years ago, bumping into one of your videos and now I'm making triple the salary. Just want to say thanks.
Hey Mike, what has been working for me on the last question you mentioned, when the interviewer asks if I have any questions, I do actually ask a couple questions. The reason for that is to figure out if the company is a good fit for me as well. In the company I'm in I asked to the interviewer what she liked the most about the company, this was to get a little bit of the company's culture, and she replied with a big smile on her face. Showing off that your good enough for the role is good but having them wanting you is even better :)
These are the exact questions I was asked. Lol. I still feel other designers have egos sometimes and want people less skilled than they are to not outshine them. When in reality it’s not even like that. :)
This video is quite informative. I'm glad we have seniors like you in our industry. I took advice from your other videos and it help me land a UX job. I'm sure this will help me land a better one. Thanks for sharing the info about interview :)
Hey Mike! Been listening to you TH-cam videos for a year now and I finally got my first UX design job offer. I currently have a ui ix role but it’s really more UI design. Been wanting to do the switch to pure UX for a while now and your videos really helped. Just wanted to share this :)
Hi Mike, I've been watching your videos for a few months, and they have been great. I've got a skype interview today and this video helped me prepare - Thanks for the tips!
For the question for whiteboarding, or 'we want to design this thing...' - what questions do you ask them before whiteboarding? What questions would you ask the stakeholders? The biggest one I can think of is "Why are we building this in the first place?" but sometimes a topic could be specific to a certain type of user or field and so I'm not sure how generic the questions can be. If it's a medical application or screen, would you ask medical related questions? Can you ask engineering questions in this? How deep do you go?
Exactly what I wanted to ask too.. Once it went on like this, they kept on asking chain of questions each time I answer, I felt like, is this an interview about me or they are trying to find solution by running a survey with all the candidates :)
Hey Mike, I hardly leave any comments on any social media. Big thank you to you for sharing your thoughts and expertise. It is brilliant and offers a lot of golden nuggets to the UX designers. Please keep up the good work! You are helping thousands of people in the industry by doing so. I couldn't agree more with @dsnaps12 I know a designer friend who has over 15+ years of experience in the design field, super talented and has been grinding for years (being in a permanent job search for 6+ years, 1,000's of resumes and applications, only to get another "we've decided to pursue other candidates"). In reality, I think the only reason my friend is not landing a permanent job is that "some designers have egos and want people less skilled than they are not to outshine them". Yes, i said it.
This is gold. I have a question regarding asking questions in the end, couldn't it look bad if you don't ask any? Maybe they think you aren't that interested?
Hi thanks for the video! Loved it!! Can you make a video on problem solving with an example. How to get to the root of a problem? The most important questions to ask?. Thanks 🙏
Thanks for this video but I’m in a UX boot camp and have never had a job in UX. Can you make a video from the perspective of someone who has never worked in the industry before? This video was informative but a lot of the responses you gave wouldn’t apply to me.
This was really insightful. I have a background in film production and have been designing for 10 years, in the last few years I started learning about UI UX Design. Im just wondering how does one stand out of the competition?
Please help me to clear my doubts.. Is UX Design a full time screen job like animation, graphic design, Web development etc.. ? I am planning to do Masters in UX and psychology. I had a psychology background but I am in dilemma to choose this career.. I hate full time computer work because it hurts my eyes and my back.
Hey Mike. Thank you very much for your resourceful video. I have a question regarding the end of the interview. If wasn't mentioned previosly, is it bad manners asking what you gonna be potentially paid? I know it might be a stupid question, but how do you adress the topic during the interview? Looking forward your answer. Greetings
Andreea Rusu you should know what the Pay is way before this point. Glassdoor indeed and probably who ever contacted you for this position is a good place to start.

I'm currently a Lead.
@@MikeLocke Does that mean that you decide what stays in a design or the feel of it? Cheers
