  • Part 2 - Broken Dam Hut to Mackay's Hut. We leave Broken Dam Hut and break off the trail to make our own way south, heading cross-country and navigating by compass to Brooks Hut (RIP) where we get back on the trail as the weather begins to turn.

Hi, really enjoyed your video of your walk, great editing a it told your story well. Bombing out of a walk or ski trip is par for the course when walking /x-country skiing in KNP & having bomb out points is a wise part of the trip planning. The snake at 1:38 is a highland copperhead, highly venomous but quite docile & retiring with a reluctance to bite, though will if provoked. Very common in that part of KNP especially down around the Gungartan River, Kidman’s Hut area, they love areas around streams, rivers & wet areas. If I had to choose between the march flies or copperheads I’d go for the copperheads any day.

Great to see you back on the track. Luckily you got the hilleberg Allak! That’s the tent I would like to have for a storm.

Yep. Perfect choice. We were anticipating very bad weather on the snow covered southern section heading to the summit, so were well prepared for snow and wind. Steve had the Jannu. Heavier but more room.

Those spiders would scare me like hell… But also those snakes 🐍 luckily I start a hike tomorrow in Germany along the river Mosel. No deadly animals there 😉…

Hey Veronica. My hat is a North Face one I bought at a camping store in New Zealand! I can’t remember the name of the store…
