    I'm actually waiting for valve cover gaskets lol. I rebuilt a set of injectors out of a early 99. Pulled the barrels/plungers to make them a single shot, and added new intensifier pistons to make a sweet set 180cc injectors to replace my 90cc! My gaskets fell apart when I took the covers off.. I'm pretty sure in the 300k miles of service my F350 has seen no one's taken them off before. Love the 7.3 vids! I definitely like working on my ol' trusty 7.3 over my Ranger w/ a 4d55t diesel, you can still get parts for the 7.3😂

    It seems simple enough, but what i actually appreciated most in this video is how to disconnect the harness. Ive accidentally broken so many of these over the years. Yet its its something very often ignored in this type of video. Thank you.

    I am replacing both valve gaskets and wiring harness on my 99 F250 Super Duty. I cut a plug off of the old harness for the injectors and stripped some wire back so I could use it to test resistance on the injectors easy with the harness removed. After I make the connections and before I put valve covers back on I will do a buzz test with a old Autoengunity program.

    I haven't ever had a gasket issue. Two more common problems with the 99-03 7.3: one is the driver side wiring harness grounding due to wire insulation wear on the driver side valve cover; second is a defective Hall Effect cam possition sensor.
    Always check the underside of the harness, disconnect and turn over.

      Will it grounding out cause issues with turning signals suddenly just...not working? Not blowing...like they arent there. Also, noticed the steering wheel column will ding even when the key is out and it dings outta the blue. Have to manipulate it up n down to get it to stop.

    I have a question that I hope you can answer. I have a 1995 7.3 Powerstroke that uses the two glowplug/fuel injector connectors per valve cover gasket, two on the passenger and two on the driver's side. I have replaced the engine wiring harness four or five times and each of the valve cover gaskets and the under-the-valve cover wiring harness seven or eight times along with the glow plug relays. Now I have over 420,000 miles on this engine so this has been spread out over the 28 years I've owned the truck. I currently need to replace all of these harnesses again including the engine harness. Would I be better off adapting or going to the single valve cover connector like the one in this video? Is that single connector a better more reliable durable design than the two-connector harness? Would you recommend using a heavier gauge wire for the glowplug circuits if I rebuild the engine harness? Those are the connections that always burn up and fail. I would use straight wire runs instead of using a pigtail and having solder joints.

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think you can convert to a Super Duty harness, it requires PCM and IDM swap. The OBS harness is just a bad design.

    Can you use the 98 to 03 valve cover harness assembly on a 95? Will it match up? I know you have to extend the wiring from the front two plugs, but would it work better? My 95 keeps melting the glow plugs to the injectors in the connectors?

    So i am doing the valve cover caskets on my 03 7.3, as well as the internal wiring harness. After doing some research i found out that the internal wiring harness is common for coming unplugged during use. So Ford came out with a retaining clip for the harness to help keep it plugged in. i purchased some of these to install during replacement. but i cannot for the life of me figure out how they go in. Any advice? part number on the clips is 1C3Z-14A163-AA.. Thank you!

    • @RJ-cc1fz

      I think the clip just slides in there to keep the clip tight. Some use a grinder to grind down quarter to hold the existing clip in place

      My truck cranks and runs good. Reving it almost has hard to notice miss above 2000 rpm. Runs good going down road until about 7 minutes and then it sounds like it looses fuel pressure or some injectors quit firing. Let it sit for a while. Cranks back up and does same thing again. Sometimes not. Fuel bowl is full when I pull filter. Might be valve cover wiring harness? Or wires from firewall driver side going to valve cover area? Truck bought new by me on 2000. 150k miles. Has a tool bed.

    Hey man I have a 97 obs and It’s running so rough. I removed my valve covers today and unplugged one by one. And noticed #4 and #5 don’t do anything when unplugged. The other ones cause the truck to surge. I did the buss test and they all passed. But injector number 5 is squirting so much oil and it’s all splashing on the glowplug. The other #4 isn’t squirting at all. What could my issue be ? Also I’m guessing #5 has bad o rings

    Being that this an informational video please use correct terms. Don't call an engine a motor..... I understand that the general public thinks they're the same. Any mechanic should feel stupid calling a fuel burning engine that makes it's own power internally via combustion a motor which relies on an outside source i.e. electricity to make its power.

      An engine is a motor, but a motor isn't an engine. Motor is defined as any of various power units that develop energy or impart motion such as a small compact engine, a gasoline engine, or a rotating machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy. In fact, it would be more accurate to call a diesel a motor since it uses a turbo to recapture energy from the exhaust.
