Dude the safe you knock the hinge off of the first one had something called a tubular lock you can get a little tool for that we can pick it and literally recreate the key so you could just sold the safe instead and they like 50 or $80 worth with it

Reason why I got it so cheap is because they had a king size mattress laying over the top of everything they had in there

great find. I am a collector myself and while most of what you got is just common stuff and the older stuff wasn't in great condition ( condition is everything for coins) it is still a great find. exciting to watch you go through it. I often buy estate collections and when I sit and go through everything it is like treasure hunting every now and again I come across something phenomenal and worth some money. your silver eagles are common unless you find some from 1986 to the early 1990's those in 70 condition can be over 2k some like the 1994, 2999 and the 2000 millennium set set go for 14k each

On most safes, the door hinge can be removed and the door will still be secure with the steel rods (the more premium the safe the more the rods like 12 minimum). That was a cheap safe.

For what it's worth, there are small, portable hydraulic units used by loggers/people who cut trees, that have opposing wedges that spread apart. Look them up.... I'm sure it would be a lot easier to open safes once you get a small opening.
some of those New Zealand coins are no longer in circuit as they changed over to a new currency a few years back .. we now have $0.10 $0.20 $0.50 $1.00 $2.00 coins and $5.00 $10.00 $20.00 $50.00 and $100.00 notes

You might want to remember when handling coins that you should never put your fingerprints on the coins. It can reduce what they are worth, especially when they might be uncirculated.
You are right the plastic box contains a lot of English pennies pre 1969-70. When Our new decimal currency came in to circulation. Pete from Peterborough, England,
I know you know this by now but in case no one else let you in on this tip, a coin is only uncirculated if its in an individual case, certified with a quality control number and human hands have never touched it. Once you touch a coin, it is circulated. I learned a lot in working for the Banking Industry for several years. I even got to see and handle a 500.00 and a 1,000.00 bill once. They stopped circulation on those in the 1930's. Keeping coins in a nice container just keeps them clean and new looking❤

I just finally jumped into the storage business with the purchase of three abandoned units! I did find a locked cash box unfortunately empty. But so far a lot of interesting items. The only drawback is the 20 degree temperatures and the cold wind bringing Zero degree windchill factors.

Try adding some wedges like you would use for splitting a log. you likely won't have to work so hard opening without the additional leverage. Thanks for showing me the weakness in the hinge area! Congrats on your silver certificate etc score!!
