  • This is my Marineland 5g aquarium portrait tank review. These fish tanks are maybe the best bang for your buck with buying tanks online. I highly suggest one if your looking for a tank around this size.

    I’ve had this for just over a year and it’s a really great tank. Very easy to take care of and it cycled without trouble. I do use the carbon filters with it but it can be modified for sure. Unfortunately I just lost my male copper betta who I got this tank for, but he lived a happy life in it with his snail friends ❤️

    I love this tank! It is a beautiful tank with good filtration with the sponge and filter in the back! I love the day and night light. I have my male bettas in these two of these Marineland Portrait five gallon tanks and two ten gallon tanks. I had to adjust the flow of the pump. This tank is good for a betta. I have some decor, plants with hammock leaf pads and a floating log! It looks great!

      Gail Cousins is the floating log great? I'm considering to buy but I'm not sure.🤔

      Hello Jeffy. I love the floating log in this tank with my betta. He loves it. Try and see if your betta likes it.

      Gail Cousins Hi! Im interested in buying this tank and am wondering whether or not it’s hard to clean the “back” (where the filter is)?

    I bought this aquarium 3 weeks ago. I thew out the filter and replaced that area with course sponge, as recommended by Aquarium Co-Op. I now have a Plakat Betta in it. He's very happy. >))))))o>

    Such an awesome looking tank! It would be a great betta or Celestial Pearl Danio tank.

    I bought the 3 gallon on the black Friday deal for cheap. Awesome tank, love the look... The pump is way too strong for nano fish even on the small tank! Two of my fish we're stuck to the intake part of the background. Running a tiny sponge now.

    Yes. I have been looking at this tank for awhile now myself. I remember it was $49.99 in the recent past though. Must be pretty popular.

    Also I have the top fin 5g all glass from 2 yrs ago still up and running and id say the LED on that can definitely grow plants. No co2 or substrate soil needed. Should look into if you want a betta tank.

    I'll admit its nicer than I thought, it looks lidless in a lot of photos (something I count as an automatic no), Though I do dislike the stand (I personally on't like when the stands on these little tanks curve inwards so they don't look like they're exporting everything... just personal preference)
    I would prefer to see the lid have a hinge

    From my personal experience this could be a baby betta grow out tank or a shrimp tank adult bettas should have their own ten gallon tank but still a really cool tank I’d put a plant in there for show and some shrimp

    Got 2 of them back in the summer for $18 a piece. Shoulda got a few more cause right after I ordered they went back up to 50. Great for bettas with the pump turned all the way down.

      Also the light is pretty weak for plants, but java ferns are growing slowly with light on 14hrs a day. Recently turned up to 16hrs

    I have the imagitarium 3.8 gal same setup as this one. 2 of them actually. The pump seems fine with my bettas.

    The “stand” is probably the weakest link in the whole thing. I wish they would just include a rubber mat like a mouse pad instead. I would be too afraid of having it knocked off otherwise.

    I just bought this tank and agree that taking out the back panel to capture more tank space is key. Question: What is the BEST filter i can buy for this little tank? I don't mind spending some money on it. I've so many reviews my head is spinning. A filter that is quiet, accepts biological media, and highly effective. Thanks! - Newb here BTW, Be kind plz.

    You can adjust the pump

    If you going betta, you can use the cylinder style sponge filter foam to cover the out spout to buffer the flow. Problem solved.

  • @CaptainCrappin

    Alright. I haven't watched this video until now but I spent a ton of time doing research for my first betta tank. I'll say, it really cool and stuff. Wouldn't mind recommending it to others. I got it for a betta setup around March or April 2020. It works well, don't have to do very much, setup is simple... however (this could totally be a user error/noob thing + laziness on my part) but the outflow is quite heavy on it for a betta, though my 2 fish that I've had (SIP Fireball, red male veiltail) he did not care for the flow. Didn't mind if it was nothing or a tsunami coming out of there lol.
    My dumbo on the other hand (named him Slippy like the snake from Rick and Morty KEK) he has had some troubles with it... then again both did in the beginning. I could probably take it out now and be fine. I think it may have just been the getting used to actually swimming in a house instead of a locked room, to put it to an analogy. Like I said though before, I was too lazy to tear the motor back out and stuff but I wasn't lazy enough however to put a baffle in made out of the top of a pop bottle and weed whacker replacement string (pop bottle drill a hole in the cap big enough to put that string through, not it off at the top/outside of the cap, and poke some hole in the plastic so you don't have a wicked current going back towards the outflow, then tie it around the outflow) and neither fish have cut themselves or their fins.
    Other than user error/laziness I do recommend this tank (though I'm 99.999% sure I have the motor nearly closed off in the first place). Just know it may be strong to start out with. Filter stuff from my experience is a little bit of a pain but it's 100% because of where I placed the tank.
    I'm planning on moving up to a 10 gal kit or *possibly* the 13 gal Aqueon kit (I'm not sure the 13 would work where I'm gonna put it and with weight it's probably too much in a specific area, so I'm planning on the 10 gal atm) and would really like to see and probably imo prefer myself to do a HOB filter instead of built-in, though obviously there's a lot of strengths to that for beginners. I got into the hobby bc I have no/very few others and I'm finally going to start expanding which makes me excited.
    But yes... TLDR I recommend this 100% for those getting into the hobby and if you plan on putting a betta in it, know you might have to baffle the outflow... and even though I'm still a noob and consider myself one, I've put in a TON of time putting in the research myself (at least a solid 40 hours+ in just research overall) but it's best to not have fish tankmates at least with a betta in this tank. You probably could do some shrimp, you could definitely do a snail... but fish wise, just the betta is best.
    Palmer Aquatics: Good video for sure. It is cheap, got it off Amazon, no problems unboxing and filling... no breaks or cracks at all. It could be because I'm a noob idiot but I did not do well with live plant personally lmao. But I have seen a few videos and pros that have live planted tanks that are beautiful and simple, so the lights must work well enough for that. I completely agree though, overall a great and beautiful tank.

    I got this and less than a week after I set it up the back where the pump sits is full of slimy crap that smells like a swamp. The front looks ok but I'm not sure for how long with the back portion the way it is.

    I want this tank. I haven't had one for 24 years now. But after looking at some Amazon review photos I really want to do a small coral tank with maybe a single clown fish. It looks quite good in a compact tank like this. But those photos are single moments in time. Im wondering how it is in the long run. Im also not opposed to a freshwater tank and plants. I always had a knack for growing plants in a tank. Unfortunately never outside a tank.

    again, thank you for your great video. i want to put on VCA's random flow generator. i need to know if the rfg can be attached to the return outlet? is the return outlet elbow that comes thru the back panel to the main tank compatible with genuine Loc-Line? what is the outside diameter of the outlet? thank you so much

    Regarding the pump with a Betta..... I put a course sponge over the outflow, with a betta leaf half in and half out of water , that i curved to lessen the flow. It works well. No problems for my Betta. >))))))o> I can send pic if anyone wants to see.

    I literally just gutted the filtration system with a razor blade, the design of it is so flawed and I’ve lost so many guppy fry and shrimp in the back of that thing. It’s held by silicone so a razor blade will too. I used a more than capable hang on the back filter and a LED lamp and it looks ten folds better than what came in the box.

    • @willyshoo
      @willyshoo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can you be more specific about the changes you made to the filtration and LED lamp? Able to share any pictures? Thanks in advance!

    • @oscarp4328
      @oscarp4328 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      willyshoo hey sure!🖐🏻 So if you take a look at the black plastic wall, on the sides there is silicone holding the glass and the black plastic wall together. Use a sharp razor blade and run it parallel to the glass until you reach the bottom. Do that for both sides, there will be most likely silicone residue which you can takeoff once the wall comes out. As far as the filtration, use a hang on the back filter or a sponge filter whatever your preferences and just a normal LED light.

      bettas are 2 inches. Its an average to slightly small aquarium for the size of the fish.
