Elise if the hooks drag just wash them soap and water and they’ll be smooth..There’s always a coating on them it seems to me.

I agree. I bought a crochet hook set on Amazon and they were so hard to work with at the beginning I almost returned them. Until I figured out they had some sort of coating and that by vigorously rubbing them on my t-shirt they turned out just fine 😅

I clean all my crochet hooks n4 using them bcuz 99% of the time there’s always residue on them from the factory/mill.
I use alcohol or polish them w/an old tshirt. Takes care of the drag.

Oh my gosh! It works! I did that on some of my cheaper ones that have drag and boy did that make a difference. It left dingy on the cloth I used. They are smoother now. Thanks! 🥰

I watched a video couple of days ago about people who leave criticising comments when knitters/crocheters use cheaper yarns and equipment. This video shows people shouldn't be so judgemental. You can get some really nice stuff in discount stores. Here in the UK we have Poundland, B&M Bargains and Home Bargains and I've had some really nice yarn and goodies from all three.

Bought DT Just Chenille yesterday and really liked it. I have never worked with chenille type yarns before. I have been crocheting since I was 8 and I am 70 now. I started crocheting amigurumi about a year ago but never plushies. Yesterday was my first experience with it and I made 4 Axoloti to give away to the neighbor kids. My experience was similar to your demo when frogging and a little shedding after trimming the ends off, but was easy to work with. Can’t beat the price for small projects.

Last week I liked what I saw & tried Crafter's square twist yarn $1.50 CDN. I made a bucket hat for my 2 yr old grand daughter & I'm very happy with the soft texture. Thank you.

Have you tried the website? I'm not sure how the shipping situation would be for Canada. But, I am able to ship to my local store for free. I think you have to buy their yarn in groups of 4, if I remember right. The color options online are beautiful, though, since you aren't limited to what your store has.

Another great video thank you. One of my favorite items I buy from dollar tree for my crochet is the essentials heavy duty storage bags. They come in 2 sizes L and XXL. The L size has 2 bags per box the XXL just has one per box. These bags are ziplock and have a nice handle. These are so great for holding your yarn and your crochet project as you’re working on it. I wish I could add a picture of the box but I don’t know how to do that. You can find it on the dollar tree website. I just checked the website you can buy 48 of them for$60. They can be hard at times to find them in the stores at times.

I love going to Dollar Tree! I have bought some hooks, but the plastic ones broke on me because I make amigurumi. Those tight stitches need metal hooks! 😂 Lesson learned a few years ago when I started making them. I used to buy some yarns there as well, but my local store doesn't always carry them, but also, I usually need more yardage per yarn. However, sometimes I see colors that I don't find in brands I normally use so I'll grab a few. Ain't nothing wrong with Dollar Tree -- for yarns, hooks, or anything really. Thanks for making this video and sharing it with us!

    Hi Elise,
I picked up a skein of the Just Yarn Worsted a long while ago with the intention of splitting it and making some Barbie clothes. Though I really like how it feels, I haven't put it to work yet. That's only because I kinda stopped making Barbie clothes for a bit to focus more on my sock knitting skills.
I'm a big fan of notebooks too! And, I use the style you picked up for keeping track of my blood sugar numbers, insulin doses, and meal notes - like what I ate and the carb grams from food labels.
I love the mini glass "cookie jar" style jars you picked up! Besides making me think of my granny's cookies, 😊 I think they'll be perfect for sorting and storing my smaller leftover yarns and your colorful yarn bobbins will look gorgeous in them too!
The last crafty items I bought at Dollar Tree was a plastic, circular, 8 compartment, flip-top storage piece to put my lightbulb stitch markers in.
I'm also a fan of the composition books I find at Dollar Tree. I started keeping track of my finished objects (knit and crochet) in them and I use them for project planning, genealogy notes, hook and needle inventory, yarn stash and anything else I might need them for. Lol! There's always a good use for them.
Anyway, thanks for the wonderful video, Elise. You always have such great ideas and inspire me to keep creating.
    ✌️💜🧶

Hello beautiful lady and thank you for an awesome video 💕
I’m a go to Dollar Tree person and use the yarns for smaller projects and plushies, plus the just yarn and chenille yarn are a premiere product at a smaller scale.
A lot cheaper and more yardage on average.
Right now premiere has their premiere basic chenille at $3.99 of only 112 yards versus two Dollar Tree skeins at $2.50(+tax) with 130 yards and it’s good yarn.
I purchase as much chenille as possible at my local dollar trees bc one budget two more yards for my dollar and last why not.
    I love DOLLAR TREE 💙💕💙

I've used the plastic ones before, on amigurumi as well. They aren't my favorite, due to the flimsy/overly light weight. However, I've been fairly aggressive with them, and they haven't broken yet! Perfect for travel or when you are going to an event or something and don't want to risk using your good hooks.

I have about 6-8 of the metal crochet hooks from dollar tree. I keep one in my “travel “ bag. I like to crochet at the doctor office or if I take the train to work. I like the hook because if I should lose it then I don’t get upset about it. I love the idea of using the chalk and blackboard stickers. Definitely going to use that idea. Thanks for sharing. Hugs to you and the kitties.

I believe that the ergonomic hooks last longer than the solid plastic ones. The one plastic one I had snapped in two while I was crocheting with it.

If you combine the letter bead and paper clip, you can loop the bead onto the clip then paper clip to the project, like a stitch marker, for the hook size rememberance. Also, i didnt realize one of my favorite metal hooks was from the DT until you held up your green 4.5 from there 😂. I dont even know where i got the hook from! Likely one of my friends left it at my house or something.

I have a 4.5 and 5.5 of the first hook you shared -paid $1 back in the day for mine, and they are my favorite hooks! I have small hands and the handle fits like a glove. Honestly I've been looking for hooks similar so I could have a more complete set.

I love how short the Dollar Tree hooks are but it doesn't take long for my hands to start hurting when I try to crochet with them. I think the hard plastic is the reason.

I love the plastic Dollar Tree hooks. I use them for everything except amigurumi. I am not a fan of the metal hooks with plastic handles. I get mad when I go inside and see those. I bought like 5 of the green (6mm) hooks and hid them from myself around the house. Because I hate when you need a hook but can never find it. I need one hook with my project at all times but sometimes I have more than one project going. By hiding them around my house, I'm likely to find them and just be happy and surprised rather than cranky that I can't find them 😂
I have a LOT of Crochet hooks, some are very expensive. But these are my favorite ✌️

I've used the premier just yarn to make my wife a hexagon cardigan, it was decent yarn to work with. The dollar stores near us never have the crochet hooks though. I really like my clover amour hooks, but would still try the dollar store ones, just to see if i like them at all.

Thank for your sharing the info and videos on the Dollar Tree finds, I will have to check out our local store - I rarely shop there... - I don't know why but lately I'm finding hooks by Bates, that are really rough - and it can at times fray the yarn a bit - I tried using a nail file to take the edge off but it doesn't work - kind of a waste of $ at over $3.00 each! I always liked buying the Bates hooks but now, might have to change brands! I do like the Boye and Clover brands ! :-/

i have all 3 of the metal hooks. They are my favorites (just wish there were more sizes). I like the shape and I have sensory issues so the rubbery hooks tend to cause some issues for me. I've used my 5.5 mm for about a year and the other two I found later and all of them are working great still. The 5.5 has survived the most big projects like a whale shark and multiple big dragons and looks and feels new. I kinda panic a little if I set it down and forget where since it is probably my favorite hook.
