  • One size definitely does not fit all. This plus-size backpack is built for those carrying a little extra weight around the middle. Weighing in at 1.38 kg - or just over 3 pounds - it is light enough for multi-day trips and sturdy enough to take some abuse. With roomy internal compartments, you can easily organize your backcountry life. Plus, its external pockets make it easy to grab your GPS, rain shell or trail snacks without going into yardsale mode on the side of the trail. Rain clouds above? No worries. The integrated rain cover is ready to protect your gear in snow storms or sideways rain.

Just got my Gregory Stout 45 here in the UK. What an amazing pack. Just the right volume for me whether for a light load for a trek in the mountains or a full shop at the supermarket. Comfort level 10/10. Lightweight 10/10. Being ex-military I love the subdued green colour without the pack looking like army surplus.

I’m a large guy, I love my stout 45 plus, it’s even big enough to wear over big bulky winter gear!

Glad to see Gregory going lighter. I used to have a baltoro but it was 6-7 lbs

I have the Baltoro too! I will be testing the Gregory Focal in a few weeks. Watch for a review.

Just got the Baltoro 100 pro. I would rather have a heavier pack, this will allow you to haul heavier loads in comfort. Baltoro all day.

@meandmerat8744 I cannot disagree. I still bring out my Baltoro for longer trips. You may like this video too:

ahahaha great review! and nice pack out! Really showing what a 45ltr pack is capable of. So funny with the wine lol guess I pack to light. The stout is soooo much lighter and freeing vs the baltoro. Will you sell it off and go for the Regular Stout? The newer ones seem to have the velcro adjustment width system. I had the regular stout but my waist is narrow and found it slipping open and had to crank it down way too tight to hold the weight before it would move to my shoulders.
ended up with the Zulu 55 now and wish I had got the Paragon line which is lighter and closer in design to the Stout. I will say the suspension on the Zulu is comfortable as hell though.

I’ve actually invested in the Gregory Focal 58L. I’m hoping it could replace both my Baltoro and Stout. It’s ultralight but I’m questioning durability. Can’t wait to try it and of course will review in the spring!

Hi Papa Steve..is this 45L good for carry on bag in plane? Thanks

Hmm, best to refer to Gregory’s website but in my opinion it would not be small enough for carry on.

Hi, thank you for the review. Does everything shown in this video fit in this backpack?

Hi, absolutely yes as shown on the thumbnail photo, using some outside pockets.

What is the lenght of the frame of the Stout 45? If not loaded fully what backpack height can you expect?

    • @PapaSteveOnTheMove

The wishbone frame fits torsos 16”-21” and has some adjustability for fit. It doesn’t ride high on the shoulders but sits more on the back.
