Excellent exhibition as always and very nice layouts.great effort is taken to organise these events,well done to the organisers. many young people visit exhibitions with their families/parents, who love to see trains go by with joy on their faces,counting the trucks and coaches or looking for small animals.Exhibitions also attract the knowledgeable enthusiasts who may notice a few imperfections to detail and will sometimes give kind advice to the modeller which is always helpfull.keep it up THE ELIZEBETHANS.

Another "Children's" Toy train set show. Obviously todays Modellers have no conception of signalling, no conception of the rules relating to track formation, and quite clearly no conception of the very complex rules concerning freight train formation. Meaning operation like so many shows, is now farcical and totally unrealistic !!!!

@@JAMESDEMU-RailwayModeller My most recent exhibition layout, (87ft x 27ft) when not at shows, was displayed in a Spanish Railway Museum. It modelled exactly to scale a 2 mile section of the LSWR mainline, including Worting Junction. And was set in the last 10 years of steam on the SR (1958-67). Trackwork was to a minimum 5ft radius, and included 105 handbuilt points of up to 7ft 3in radius (operated by Fulgurex slow action motors) . The basic track used was SMP bullhead code 75 (available from the producers Marcway Models in Sheffield). The track plan was an exact copy of a real life section of railway and included a 4 track mainline, junction with 2 track branch, a major through station, with loco shed, 3 Goods Yards & Carriage sidings. Along with a hidden 40 track Fiddle Yard on two levels. This was necessary to cope with the real life 1 in 100 gradient that rises from Worting Junction to Lichfield tunnel, on the Hampshire Downs. Virtually all the buildings had to be scratchbuilt from original BR/SR/LSWR technical Drawings, obtainable from either the Public Records Office (Kew) or the NRM (York).
STOCK
Every locomotive carriage and wagon, in the layouts stock fleet was of a vehicle known to have been used on that line in the chosen era. The fleet of 103 locos, 420 coaches & 250 wagons, (each individually numbered) was a mix of Scratchbuilt, kit built, & commercial models. Although every single commercial model had to be rebuilt in some way or other, as British outline OO, still isn't reliable enough for heavy daily use on an exhibition layout. Indeed most Hornby steam locos could not cope with 13 coaches up the real life 1 in 100 gradient. So all the express passenger types had to have as much as 100g of extra lead weight added. Each train was of course an exact formation of a real train that had run on that route in that era. Such as the 13 coach "Atlantic Coast Express" made up of 3 x 3 car SR "Sets" & 4 "Loose" vehicles. Or the "Bournemouth Belle" of 12 Pullmans, plus in both cases a Merchant Navy or West Country 4-6-2 locomotive !
TCC WIRING METHOD
The layout did NOT use "model railway wiring methods" such as traditional 12v DC or DCC. It used TCC (Track Circuit Control) which is a real railway method of controlling the real railway. In other words "Track Circuits" were needed to ensure the 3/4 Aspect colour light signalling (on the mainline), & GWR lower quadrant on the Reading line, functioned exactly as their real life counterparts. That's Track Circuit Block for the colour lights and Absolute Block for the semaphore signalling. Further every signal had to be handmade as an exact copy of the real signal it mimicked. The signals of course interfaced, through the "Track Circuits" with the movement of the trains, ensuring every signal changed at exactly the correct moment, as per real life. And of course full real life "Interlocking" was included to prevent signalling or points from allowing false aspects to show on the signals. Indeed I even added British Railways AWS (Automatic Warning System), to ensure none of the layouts 8 operators could crash any signal, when at danger ! Which was simply done by using one of the switches on each of the main signal relays, to isolate a section of track ahead of any signal at danger.
CONSTRUCTION
The layout required a 40ft articulated lorry trailer to move it to & from shows. Each baseboard was 2m (6ft 6in) long, to various widths to suit the trackplan & scenery. The baseboards were all built purely in Marine plywood, (to cope with the various climates across Europe), using the sandwich frame method. Which meant a full grown male could stand in the middle of a baseboard whilst on its legs, with a maximum "deflection" at the baseboard centre of only 4-5mm (before track and scenics were added obviously) !!!! This was necessary to minimize the possibilities of damage, whilst dragging the layout around Europe to various shows. A team of a minimum 10 operators was needed at shows. It should be added that many German Model Railway shows can last at least a Week, with up to 100,000 visitors !
As a result of attending an Austrian show the layout was sold to the owner of a German Truck Haulage company, just over a year ago, so as far as I know its now in Germany.
Further a number of my previous layouts have appeared in Modelling magazines over the last 35 years. From the British Peco "Continental Modeller", to even Japanese Modelling magazines. Indeed two of my (Japanese layouts) appeared on Japanese TV shows during the 1990's. In the past I have been the Editor for the German Railway Society and later the Founding member and Editor of the Japanese Railway Society.
I am of course also a real Railway Mechanical Engineer, and I have worked for numerous railway companies around the World, in addition to British Railways before its demise. Hence my hobby of model railways always results in operationally highly advanced layouts. This of course virtually guarantees a good price when I sell them. Which pays for the next layout, which is already in the planning stages. By the way I have not exhibited any of my layouts in Britain since 1995, as European shows are so much bigger and so much more professionally organised. So you're only likely to see any of my layouts in Mainland Europe.
I’m open minded each to their own regarding layouts I just think whoever builds their layouts it’s their choice. We personally like seeing all types of layouts built by various people and age groups we have our opinions on which layouts we prefer but try and be positive wouldn’t want to upset people they may not like our layout when it’s built 😄
@TCOnTour I'll bet this fella hadn't actually got anything built. Just lots of ideas and an "I know better" attitude. Sadly, I've encountered a few conceited, petty little creatures over the years who can't wait to jump on anything they deem to be inferior to their own (often incomplete or fictional) layouts.
I've checked his channel, and big surprise, there's nothing to be seen.
I'm thinking of subscribing to him just to see if any layout images appear, but I doubt they will.
