- Welcome to my new vlog! In this video we will go to the Asmara. Asmara is indeed the capital city of Eritrea. It's a beautiful city known for its well-preserved Italian colonial architecture, earning it the nickname "Little Italy." Asmara was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017 for its unique blend of historical styles. Asmara was founded in the 12th century and became the capital of Eritrea in 1900 during the Italian colonial era. The Italians heavily influenced the city's architecture, which is why Asmara is nicknamed "Little Italy." Asmara played a key role in the Eritrean War of Independence (1961-1991) and became the capital of the newly independent Eritrea in 1993. Asmara is a fascinating city with a unique history, culture, and architecture. It's a popular tourist destination for those interested in exploring Africa's rich cultural heritage.

My nani's elder brother was cremated at Keren in Eritrea. He died fighting the Italian forces during the 2nd world War. His name is engraved on the memorial column at the commonwealth War Graves at Keren. His name was Lt. J.N. Sengupta
