I just discovered your wonderful TH-cam channel & I enjoy watching it with my beautiful 15 or 16 year old German shepherd Shepherd mix Fur baby girl who is sadly preparing to cross the rainbow bridge. ❤️😢😥🐕🦺😇🌈❤️🩹💔
How frequently you include interviews with people who worked on the titles you're focusing on is super appreciated. Not only do we get your own thoughtful perspective and input, but new and unique insight from behind the scenes.
As an outsider to the Silent Hill franchise, I'd figure a rail shooter would be totally ill-fitting for the franchise. But, this showed me that couldn't be further from the truth. It actually fits very well with Silent Hill's odd and, at times, goofy tone. Also, the fact that you actually said "Space Combat Ship" as goofily as the characters did made me go, "Ooooh, so this video is perfect, then."😂 Thanks for a wonderful video, Maria.
Genuinely incredibly made video, the dedication to get a brief interview really sets this apart from any other similar videos. It's actually nice to see the care and attention to detail to make this arcade shooter fit in with the mainline titles and the references and understanding of the source material, honestly better than it has any right to be.
I got the high score on this in Dr. Quirkeys in Dublin . I used both guns did next to all the shooting with my right hand so the enemys would mostly attack the right side, died to the last boss though didn't complete it.
wow this was cool to look at and makes me wish it got a wii port, Mama has such a great design i need to see more art of her from the community, thanks for another awesome video as always maria hope you have a great rest of your week
I think I came across that arcade at my local Round 1 along with Castlevania: The Arcade. Impressive how this game is able to tell its own story despite being the type of fare arcades are associated with. Good job on the video! 👍
It's a bit weird to see how konami used to put so much care and love into their games, even small lil funni spin offs like this had so much attention to details poured into it. Great video as always Maria!
This title fascinates me. I wish there ended up being some kind of rail gun shooter for SH in the vein of Umbrella Chronicles for Re. Thank you so much for covering it 😃
My favorite thing about this type of title is knowing it’s bound to be somebody’s only exposure to the franchise 😂 for a very long time, the only Zelda game I had ever played was Freshly Picked Tingle’s Rosy Wonderland and I think that’s just a good way to go through life
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Mama boss was in some way inspired by Louise Bourgeois who made lots of art incorporating spiders and mannequin like female figures. She has a very large sculpture of a thin imposing spider named Maman.
Fantastic! I have some fond memories of arcade booths from when I was a kid. Though I never played this one, watching this gave me some nostalgia. Good stuff!
over the years i thought multiple times about this arcade machine i remember from when i was a kid and was so shocked when this vidéo came up in my homepage! thanks for the trip down memory lane
i appreciate the video, love when people research and make a video about these niche stuff. Im also curious about the java game and cancelled cold heart game
I would love to see this game remade but with how the original Silent Hill games were done. I can see the story line being easily expanded to make more unique creatures and bosses. Maybe do the dogs with bandages, large bear like enemies, also bandaged up. The bandages to represent Emily playing doctor/nurse with her toys. Have a more 1920s style nurse enemy. I love the idea of the doll boss. The story just seems so very perfect for a Silent Hill without it being 100% about the occult like how Silent Hill 2 story was done.
I somehow accidentally clicked this video well watching another video and I’m so confused but will be staying. 30-second old video damn never been so fast
"Don't know how I managed to cover two games in a row that reference the Mary Celeste." Well, clearly there's only one thing to do now. Go for the hat trick and cover Limbo of the Lost.
Excellent video! Thanks for covering "Double Under Dusk" however briefly. I've been trying to get more information about it and "Cage of Cradle" for almost 20 years!
Great video! I only have the soundtrack from the arcade, never had the chance to play it! I hope one day Konami will release a complete SH collection and include this gem!
Seems pretty solid from a story standpoint actually, that's pretty cool for a game that's an arcade rail shooter of a franchise you'd never expect would have one of those. Liked that you got the producer to chime in too.
Man you put more time and genuine, high quality effort than ANY game "journalist". You've got a nice big channel, but you deserve a LOT more attention.
I grew up in Asia, and around 2010 ish I played this machine and it was so popular, they put a black curtain around the entire machine so when u played it was extra dark! It was dope
It's cool that you got an interview with the producer of the game for this video. I enjoy hearing how different play testing was back in the day compared to how much easier early access and surveys are among other resources these days.
Saw one of these machines when I spent some time abroad in Japan as a part of a student exchange. I was too much of a scaredy-cat to actually play it, but this video brings back good memories
Just based on the story, i think it fits very well in the world of Silent Hill. It's such an interesting and unexpected title, but in the end, I'm glad that it was made.
I will admit it was the Silent Hill Arcade that got me into this franchise: Of all the colourful rail shooters this game stood out, a green box of screams among the cheery music. I walked in at the demo and saw the bobblehead and immediately noped from there. It was this memory that led me a few years ago to search out for the game, and since then I have completed the original 3 (i'll play SH4 eventually) and with newfound maturity and knowledge, playing through this through an emulator was honestly fun. The atmosphere is unmatched compared to many horror shooters of this time; Silent Hill was not afraid to be dark and gloomy. I also love the contrast; I imagine the characters screaming "Go awwwaayyy!!!" as they run through ammo box after ammo box of handgun ammo (doraemon pocket ammo) and lamenting having to "use enough for an army"(actual voice line). In short, it is as good as a "shooter" can be to Silent Hill and even though the gameplay is simple I revisit it every now and then. For those looking to play it on your PC download the later edition. There is however a bug with some invisible enemies; hardware incompatibility. You'll notice it shortly after the assassin miniboss (1-2 continues later, the game will continue by itself) and with the worm and MAMA boss, which unfortunately means it is impossible to get the boss ending. In conclusion, if you're a nigerian prince please spawn me a couple grand so I can buy this game thanks.
When you mentioned House of the Dead that unlocked a core memory for me. I remember seeing those games at the arcade but was always too scared to play them myself. I enjoyed this video a lot and I learned a lot about this title.
Oh my god this looks like one of the sickest games ive ever seen, what a masterpiece. I find it so sad that so many arcade titles get swept under the rug.. So many gorgeous visuals we're missing out on! I'm so grateful that you shared this with us and even got an interview with Matsuyama, seriously an unbelievable job you did here A+
Im so glad you covered this particular Silent Hill I love the whole series but Id love to play this one someday irl Ive never seen it in the wild but I have watched a full playthrough which makes me wanna try it out even more I grew up obsessed with HotD and that hasnt changed which puts this at the top of my must play list too bad its so obscure.
As far as other arcade titles that were out at the time, the visuals of the game are pretty good. Really dynamic looking bloom that doesn't obscure too much of the graphics, fairly well animated cutscenes and facial expressions (even tho the voice acting is mixed at best), lots of enemies and assets on screen, and a pretty fair combat system made this a pretty attractive game to see the year it came out. Nice lighting too, And those god rays!! I know a lot of the assets were ripped straight from the team silent titles, but they are still nice to see here. The game was so limited in release in America tho so very few people got to play it officially without the use of hacking. Still a nice curiosity at the time. I know many people hate on this title for making it the least silent hill type of experience but that was kind of the point I think.
The echo on your recitation of "space combat ship" absolutely sent me. Pls deviate from your methodic script reading tone pattern like that more often!
Thanks for the video! I tried to get this working on emulator but kept having issues with the screen calibration and ended up leaving it for other projects. I must go back to it at some stage!
@@eurothug4000Now that you covered Silent Hill Arcade, I would love to see you tackle on its somewhat spiritual successor CastleVania: The Arcade from 2009!
I feel so lucky to have been able to play this multiple times at the Round 1 in Santa Ana California. I had heard of this, thought I would never see it in person, then it opened and there it was (despite being fairly old). Sadly, I didn't check myself, but supposedly they took it out of that location. They might have removed it from all of them.
I feel like this whole project is such a weird attempt to translate SH to the arcade environment. I think it would've been cooler to see a more... generalized instrument used for a controller, so they could have moments where it could be used as a flashlight, or to grab objects for light puzzles (literally pick up thing, insert thing into something else later - that's it). Kinda like a Wii remote, and how it was used for Shattered Memories, or the controllers for the Meta Quest, I dunno. Focusing just on the shooting elements in Silent Hill is weird to me, but at least it seems like they had a fun time doing it, because this looks like an amazing on-rails shooter in its own right. And that one Gradius ending? LOVE IT. Amazing work here! I am always blown away when youtube creators go above and beyond and do stuff like interviews. Seriously, *incredible work!* Thanks for covering this little known game.
Always heard of the arcade spin off but never seen any of it till now. Great video and wonderful insight into the game ^^ Makes me hope I get to try this unique experience myself one day :)
Oh god. This game is how I was introduced to the silent hill universe. It's not the best game out there but it was so fun to play with my baby sister as kids hehe
Thank you for this new video ❤ Gotta buy a e-Amusement Pass, thanks to you I discovered that I got the good ending some years ago on the SH arcade, now I want to achieve the UFO ending!
We had that thing in an amusement park I used to work in as a teenager. Brings back memories, haha. At the time I had already played silent Hill 2-4 games and was wondering what the plot of that particular game was😅
Given that we can’t even get a collection of the mainline Silent Hill games, it’s wildly unlikely, but I’d love it if Konami could do something with the Orphan games. Point and click is such a good genre for atmospheric horror. Maybe it could have a new life on modern phones?
Woah, I just played this quite recently at a mall arcade. Only made it just pass the the first boss though cuz me and my buddy kinda sucked. We just just spam shot anything that moved and the toy gun control controller felt awkward to use.

I think from here on out, every Silent hill game should have Eric’s grandpapy in it, with the same egregious voice acting
The delivery of “SPACE COMBAT SHIP” is absolutely iconic!!
This rail shooter was at a mall i grew up in. The controllers were messed up but it was still a memorable experience.
ISN'T IT COOL ERIC? THIS IS MY NEW SHIP
