The original cars were not only relocated instead of scrapped, but also repurposed. The one on Stateside is now a shuttle stop, and the one on Tramside is now a stand that sells ramen. It's called Miso Hungry.
The terrain off of the Tram isn't important enough for that type of lift. It's really just the Face and Tuckerman's chutes, Green Beret, Valhalla and Vermonter. a 10P Gondola would be susceptible to wind at levels that would make the lift inoperable. I've never been to the peak, but the wind at the top of Bonaventure alone is quite strong, even on a calm day

They should replace this with a Doppelmayr 10P Detachable Gondola
There is a novelty to this lift and a wind resistance factor that can't be replicated with a gondola.
Or they could just add a detachable tri cable tram.
