I've thought about doing it in place but if the selector rod falls out then it's an arse to get back in with the box in. Also I have visions of the roll pin flying off somewhere in the box.
Great work Steve, is certainly a big job. Having the vehicle up on a hoist is a game changer for tranny jobs. Last one I did was my old Discovery D1, had to pull the gearbox/transfer case to do the clutch, bugger of a job working off the floor on my back, deffo no fun.
WOW ... You're a skilled mechanic !!! . You make it look easy but it's far from it !!! . It takes years to make a "3D" map in your mind to dismantle it all and reassemble ! . I'm just worn out watching you .... lol . Thanks for uploading :-)
You could look into compiling a list of tools for each job and via your referral link on say amazon or directly on your website, selling them. With many people working from home these days, most people like to fix their cars. You could make a list of ideal and alternative tools. For example, where the ideal tool is a hydraulic industrial lift, you can list that, but the alternative tool will be a jack (x4) to raise the car and fix something underneath.
I think doing the video is enough work on it's own. If you are capable of doing the job yourself then you should be able to work out what tools (and their alternative) are required.
Anything is possible on your driveway mate. I did a V8 engine swap on my Cortina on the road out the front of my house. Didn't even have a driveway! I'll keep the content coming but it does depend on what jobs I get in. Most of the time it's just routine servicing.
Brilliant watch Steve, I unfortunately changed my gearbox for this exact reason for a second hand one and yes I think you can guess. Same problem! Would you be interested in carrying out the gearbox repair to my 1st gearbox? Thanks Andy.
Cheers 👍 Unless anywhere else is different, it's always been the same at every garage I've worked at, I do the whole job. It's very rare that a part will be removed and sent away elsewhere for repair. Unless it's something specialised like an ECU repair.
Hi mate, I planning to upgrade my Pajero mk1 from 5 to 6 speed manual (exactly that same specific gearbox you worked on) kindly advise if it is possible and what adjustments I need make and put into consideration. My engine is a 4D56 TD 2004.
@@pistonbroke not so sure but it’s something I want to try out. The issue of the 3rd gear jumping out, is it a common thing or isolated? Thanks once again
@@victormuhairwe4487 it's fairly common. I would imagine by now the majority of them would have the modified kit in them as they played up during the warranty period.
Excellent video. I'd better get booked in at my local dealer for that one and scrape out the piggy bank -- 6 months after warranty ran out, of course...bggr
3rd & 4th hub, 3rd & 4th bulk ring, 3rd gear synchro, 3rd & 4th selector fork, modified selector fork lever, new cirlips, new main shaft nut and some sealant. I think that's all of it.
No parts needed for stuck in 1st. The selector rod has over shot the gate. Strip the gearbox to get it back in. You then need to modify the big detent, file a flat on either side to let any oil flow past it.
Many many thanks for doing this video. Saved me weeks of my motor being unavailable and hundreds of pounds. 3rd gear all fixed for me #Legend
Really interesting, thanks for taking the time 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers 👍
Quality Steve - thanks for putting the video together 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers mate, job took around 6 hours and the video took about the same time to edit!
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. great work, have a nice day
Lost count how many I’ve done, first couple I did I removed the box as you have, then thought I’d give it a go in situ loads easier 👌🏻
I've thought about doing it in place but if the selector rod falls out then it's an arse to get back in with the box in. Also I have visions of the roll pin flying off somewhere in the box.
It's really tricky job, great vid.thanks.
Great job Steve, yeah the only way to remove gear box and transfer case, its a pain in the arse changing them under the vehicle on the drive
I wouldn't want to do that on my back on a driveway. Those days are long gone, too old for that and I'm paying the price for it now. My back is shot!

Sod that! I'm not up for doing gearboxes on my back any more, getting too old for it now.

Quite a big job sure the bill was huge great video 👍
Warranty job so it cost the owner nothing. Kit is 200 odd quid but it's the labour that is the killer if it were a retail job
@@pistonbroke Cheers was curious about that 😎👍

I’ve lost count how many of these I’ve done. If you want to have the box sent to me I can do the repair for you no problem, I’m in Grimsby
Great video.
Nice work mate, takes some skill to do both the gearbox removal/refit & also the gearbox repair together
Cheers 👍

The engine in this is a 4N14. It's way different to the 4D56, I have no idea whether this gearbox will fit or not.

They may still cover it as it is a known issue. No harm in asking.
@@pistonbroke Thanks mate, will give it a go.
do you have the kit part number
I have this issue and I'm looking for a mechanic locally to sort this out. How much did you charge?
Great vid as always, on a serious note what is it with the chocolate gearbox’s in Mitsubishi….! Always there weak point!
Seems to Japanese gearboxes in general. When I worked at a suzuki dealer we were constantly replacing gearbox bearings in vitaras and sj's
Fair play to ya.. I'd have gone proper spaz if someone rolled a tyre across or stood on my laid out gearbag parts.
He didn't knock anything over so all good. I would have gone spaz if he had though!
Can someone provide a part number please ?
top man great job
Can someone link me to where I can purchase the repair kit, thanks
Mitsubishi dealer
What sort of price are we looking at ?
What are the things need to replace for this problem
There's a 3rd gear kit from mitsubishi that contains everything you need.
@@pistonbrokecan you tell separately what are the things included that kit. I need to know for my study work

No new clutch?
Nothing wrong with the clutch. Doesn't slip, doesn't judder, pedal feels fine, no release bearing noise so why change it?

Hi what is the cost of a job like this
Parts are about £300 plus around 6 hours labour so depending on the hourly rate, about a grand.
great work ...where are you situated or contact number..in case if i have a problem
