Excellent video. QGIS has soooo many features I'm only scratching the surface but videos like this help me expand my knowledge of what I can do with the tools it provides. And an excellent link to the British Cartographic Society. Something I'll consider joining.

@@burdGIS Crikey. Where to begin? I'm looking at some beautiful maps that are part of the #30daymapchallange and would like to start maps that are more than just 'functional'. That's part of my day job. I'd like to learn how to create maps that look good - over and above giving the information that they need to.

It sounds like you're on the right track Edward. It's great that you're seeking inspiration from other sources. I recently got hold of a copy of The Atlas of the Invisible. It's a fantastic collection and prompted me to start using the square global projections I'm using in the #30DayMapChallenge. I guess the second part to creating maps that look good is to start making maps :-) Why not have a go at one of the map challenge topics? It can be intimidating to post creations publicly but it's also a great way to get feedback.

@@burdGIS I've been making simple maps for work (forestry) to show job progress or location maps etc. Just scratching the surface of what QGIS can do. I'm in the process of trying to create a map of my local town using OpenStreetMap and some DEFRA (UK) Lidar data to give it some 3D 'feel'. Learning sooo much from all the resources folks like you give to the 'community'. Oh, and I joing the British Cartographic Society. Looking forward to receiving their Cartography book. 👍

Excellent stuff Edward. I find the geo community to very welcoming and supportive bunch and I'm sure you'll find the Cartography an Introduction book very helpful. If you ever want to share a map you've I'd be happy to put one in a video :-)
