- Castle Carr, in the valley of Luddenden Dean. was built for Captain Joseph Edwards, beginning in 1859 and completed around 1867
Edwards never got to live in his 'castle' as he and his eldest son were killed in a train crash in Wales in 1868, the worst rail accident in the UK at that point.
Edwards younger son completed the castle, but lived in it for only 4 years. Going through life as a munitions store as well as a hunting lodge, the buildingbwas eventually demolished (mostly) in the 1960s.
Today, and on one day each year, the grounds ate reopened to visitors. This includes a display of the wonderful fountain that, hitting heights of 130 feet, is still the second highest reaching fountain in the UK.
Epic video thanks for doing it.
Thanks for watching 😊. Much appreciated
Thanks another interesting video Mat. The fountain was spectacular!
@pammace3820 thank you 😊. It really was, felt like it was hitting the sky at one point

Hello Matt, great video,I’m slowly watching though each video, can’t get enough love to watch 😊
@susan7173 aw, that's really kind. Thank you. Glad you're enjoying the content 😊
Brilliant video Matt, about 20yrs ago me and my husband Patrick, had a short break staying in The Hare and Hounds Pub b&b. We did the same walk from Old Town to Castle Carr, on our way to Luddenden. We were told by workers near Castle Carr we were trespassing on private land. He told us as you said the public can only go on the land one day a year. We love the walks around Old Town. 🍻
Yeah, they really don't like people being there other than open day 😅. I know Hare and Hounds well as my house was immediately next to it growing up 😊. Thanks for watching 😊
Very interesting Matt ❤

I love the names of the locations you visit. Some of them sound like something from a fantasy novel, like the Hobbit 😅 I mean that with big respect, by the way. Great little video as always Matt.
Haha....yeah, I do get it. I often describe myself as a Hobbit anyway 😊. Thanks for watching 😀
Well done matt ..been waiting for this ..schofields not around ??
Haha.....nah, she couldn't do anything anyway as it was the official open day 😅
The sound needs to be louder 🦻
OK. I'll keep that in mind 🙂
