James, have you considered sewing a tarp to size, then slide your poles through the sewn canvas, lay the poles into the notched log as you have in your video. Then cover up with the blankets. Would roll up nicely with your blanket and maybe another tarp to be used overhead.
I have not considered that idea, but it's a really good one. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment!
The indispensable wool army blanket. Nice informative video. At my age, camp comfort is numero uno! 😎
Thank you!
Putting this together for the first time can be a little tricky. A few tips: Make sure that the poles are not too far apart and have some large safety pins handy in case the friction of the blanket itself isn't sufficient enough to keep it from slipping and sagging. Also, make sure that the logs are high enough off the ground, ideally the poles should be at least 6 inches or more off the soil. Make sure the blanket overlaps enough so that your weight helps hold it all together. And last, remember that the blanket will stretch some so it will probably need to be re-tightened at some point. Thanks for watching and please leave me a comment in the section below!
The way you talk makes me think you belong in a commercial! Great video man, thanks!
Thanks!
great video, and that is a nice looking ax
Thanks so much!
Thank you, James!
Very nice, & it gave me an idea.
Cut the logs to 12" or 18", notch on 1 end, & stand on end, notches up.
Then finish the bed the way you did.
Or tie the blanket to the poles w/ cord at either end.
Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
Yes, you could do that! thanks for watching!
Nice video.👍
Thanks 👍
Awesome
Thanks!
I am definitely the canvas tarp / wool blanket camping person. Good video. Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
We do something similar, but we roll the poles in the blanket from each side and use a few large safety pins to secure the roll. You do have to make your channels a bit deeper (to where the poles are slightly below flush with the logs) or the tend to “pop out” when you get in or move. We have done the same thing, but instead of logs, suspended the cot between 2 trees using paracord. Just loop the correct length of paracord over a branch and tie to both poles on one end. Repeat the same thing on the other side with the other tree. Makes a simple hammock like sleeping area.
Lot of great ideas, thank you!
Do you have a video or resource of how to do this as you’ve described?
I like rhis idea for an improvised cot for sleeping out in the wild. It looks very comfortable! Thanks for sharing!
A good idea, but its easier to make two tripods to hold the raised bed. We cant find logs all the times or cut them. To mush effort. One can use two high resistence plastic bags as a bed surface and the blankets over them. Should try that to demonstrat the thing (If you can)... Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I do have a video on that set up from several years ago in the archives of my channel. This was just another way to set up a Bushcraft bed if you could find the logs.
Good idea. Thanks.
Thank you!
Well that's going to save cutting about 8 more poles with my method!
Thanks James!
Thank you for watching!
Looks very good, now it’s time to camp. Thanks and take care.
Thank you, my friend!
astonishing upload WayPoint Survival. I shattered the thumbs up on your video. Keep on up the exceptional work.
Thank you!
I just found your channel and it looks like you do some interesting things.
I do have to say though that making a bed like this or even a hammock is a good way to ruin a wool blanket. The creaking sound you hear when you're on the bed is the wool fibers stretching and pulling apart. A canvas tarp is a much better option.
Thanks for the video...
That is very true, however it is an option for a quick and easy bed and, it will make your blanket bigger, lol! Thank you for watching!
bogus: like you're going to find sawn 9" logs inthe woods laying around
You can if you saw them yourself.
Find a tree you muppet 😂
Great idea my friend, thank you for sharing. All the best to you James.
🤗
Thank you!
Hi James. Great idea and production. Thank you for sharing! Stay safe. ATB Nigel
Thank you, my friend!
Another good one, James.
Thank you!
Nice! I probably will try to roll the side logs up and the blanket will wrap around enough times to hold itself in place.
Thank you for watching!
Another great video. Thanks for the information. Best!
Thank you for watching!
Great video as always, need to see how many people would like to have a west coast class like washington state.
That would be excellent. Thank you for watching!
Looks comfy
Thank you!
Genius!
Thank you! Just remember that the logs need to be close enough together so that the blanket can wrap around them adequately to help prevent slippage.
@@WayPointSurvival Sure thing! I bet the wool stretcheds a fair bit from the weight too so should I try to keep the blanket taut?
Excellent tip!
Thank you!
Another great vid that I keep missing brother.
Thank you for watching!
I like it ! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you!
Great idea!!!
Thank you!
Great idea!
Thank you!
Always excellent info - Always info I can use out there.
Thank you!
always good info thank you again for the videos
Thank you, brother!
Great bushcraft bed, love to try this with my military wool blanket. I will need the safety pins for sure. Alan R
Thank you. Yes, it is difficult to keep the blanket from slipping around the poles. One thing is to make sure that the poles are flexible enough to be comfortable and yet strong enough to hold you, and also that they are close enough together. It takes a little bit of figuring out but once you get it nailed down it can work quite well! Thank you so much for watching!
Wow James first of all ur looking dang good :} That is one comfortable looking beds, great vid my friend as always I thoroughly enjoy ur vids ur ideas are some of the best, so looking forward to meeting u again, ur my favorite!!!!
Thank you, Terry!
Great idea! I like this idea and will have to try it
Thank you!
A 12x15 foot wool blanket probably weighs quite a bit.
It's seven and a half by 8 ft. And, it weighs six and a half pounds. Thank you for watching!
Awesome video my friend
Thank for watching!
Another good video my dear! I enjoyed it!
Thank you so much, glad you liked it!
Would it be a good ideato put a bunch of leaves or boughunder it to keep ground from sucking your body heat?
Good idea, especially if it's cool out. But if you get it configured right, it should keep you off the ground. Thank you for watching!
Interesting BSA stretcher modification. We use a duct tape wrap at the top and bottom to help secure & stabilize.
That's a great tip. Thank you for watching!
Cool and simple idea . Thanks
Hopefully you put this on your FB page . Still can’t share from TH-cam to Facebook the last few days for some reason. Having no problems sending to Wimkin or MeWe
Thank you. Yes, it's on my Facebook page as well.
They finally fixed it . Thanks again
Everytime i go bush crafting… i cant find any blankets lying around.
Right? Lol.
Why didn't you show the last and most important roll?
Not sure. Thanks for watching.
We are not all stoners haha
No way that's staying off the ground all night. As soon as he sat in it his butt hit the ground.
You definitely have to make sure the poles are close enough together and depending on the blanket you would have to pin it. Also keep in mind that wool will stretch on you so there are several things to keep in mind when you build one of these. Thank you for watching!
I know you like coke
Never touched the stuff, or anything else. I don't drink soda at all and coffee usually only on Sunday with my class.
This is useless those sticks aren’t supporting anything for long
You definitely have to be choosy when picking out sticks that are heavy enough to hold up your weight.
