I love how this song makes the story of the Hamilton- Reynolds affair more human, in how Hamilton is genuinely a man with chivalry, giving a walk and loan to a woman whom he had never knew, which nowadays no man or woman would do. Also, Hamilton did have a chance to say no to Maria, but he didn't. Because he was a man in that moment that been tempted. That is beyond a character from American history. This is how Lin Manuel made Alexander Hamilton's story more human that 2 or 3 paragraphs.
Lin really exaggerated the love triangle thing with Angelica (if he didn't she isn't important at all). If you read about the real story of the Schuyler family you'll realize that "Satisfied" is one big lie. Angelica was already married (she ran away to marry her man without her parent's blessing), the Schuyler sisters had 3 brothers, and Angelica was not in the ball. In real life he was more of bros with Angelica more than anything.
Marga Esperanza I know the history of Angelica and Alexander and Eliza. I just meant that if we are following lin's narrative/ interpretation of Alex, Eliza and Angelica.. Alex said 'longing for Angelica, missing my wife'. Two completely different feelings for two different people that should have all been for the same person. For Lin, There where 3 people in that relationship but it was not a competition nor was it on equal footing. Angelica and Eliza loved Alex but he didn't love them the same way. Angelica and Eliza served different roles for Alex in his life. Angelica was his intellectual equal.She challenged him mentally and encouraged him when it came to politics and his career while Eliza was his comfort, a shelter for when the world got too much in a way. Both roles where important for him to push himself and they propped him up. In a way, they were his enablers But once they didn't do that for him, he broke away from them - Take a Break Of course it was never the other way round for both women. They loved him quite Romantically but he didn't have the same feelings.
Angelica was basically like his sis,nothing romantic.He just wanted comfort and to talk to the only person who was as smart as him and understood him (and had no political pursuits)this is pointed out in Reynolds phamplet when he expects her to understand what he did and why he did it

I think that may be the point though, because as he mentioned, he was missing his wife, and there were some things in Maria that he had seen in Eliza when he had first met her, and the "helpless" line here is trying to emphasize that. When he was having relations with her, he felt a part of Eliza in her. However, that does NOT excuse his adultery. Eliza deserved better ;-;

I love how this song makes the story of the Hamilton- Reynolds affair more human, in how Hamilton is genuinely a man with chivalry, giving a walk and loan to a woman whom he had never knew, which nowadays no man or woman would do. Also, Hamilton did have a chance to say no to Maria, but he didn't. Because he was a man in that moment that been tempted. That is beyond a character from American history. This is how Lin Manuel made Alexander Hamilton's story more human that 2 or 3 paragraphs.
When the ad before the song is Lin advertising a lottery to go see Hamilton:

Lin really exaggerated the love triangle thing with Angelica (if he didn't she isn't important at all). If you read about the real story of the Schuyler family you'll realize that "Satisfied" is one big lie. Angelica was already married (she ran away to marry her man without her parent's blessing), the Schuyler sisters had 3 brothers, and Angelica was not in the ball. In real life he was more of bros with Angelica more than anything.

I just meant that if we are following lin's narrative/ interpretation of Alex, Eliza and Angelica.. Alex said 'longing for Angelica, missing my wife'. Two completely different feelings for two different people that should have all been for the same person.
For Lin, There where 3 people in that relationship but it was not a competition nor was it on equal footing. Angelica and Eliza loved Alex but he didn't love them the same way.
Angelica and Eliza served different roles for Alex in his life. Angelica was his intellectual equal.She challenged him mentally and encouraged him when it came to politics and his career while Eliza was his comfort, a shelter for when the world got too much in a way. Both roles where important for him to push himself and they propped him up. In a way, they were his enablers But once they didn't do that for him, he broke away from them - Take a Break
Of course it was never the other way round for both women. They loved him quite Romantically but he didn't have the same feelings.
Angelica was basically like his sis,nothing romantic.He just wanted comfort and to talk to the only person who was as smart as him and understood him (and had no political pursuits)this is pointed out in Reynolds phamplet when he expects her to understand what he did and why he did it
