- Sikhseverywhere presents a series of learning videos on
tanti saaj (string instruments) focusing on Dilruba.
Sikh Gurus have bestowed numerous timeless gifts upon humanity. Among these are freedom from the barriers of gender, class, race; A spiritual lifestyle that is based on Truth-in-practice; the importance of kar-seva (selfless service); the privilege of "bana" (Khalsa "look").
The most important gift that anchors all is kirtan music and the spiritual verses of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. A perfect marriage of the shabad (sacred poetry) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the "raag" (melody), kirtan provides deeply satisfying spiritual nourishment. The Gurus themselves were gifted musicians - composing, singing and enchanting humanity through the joy of music.
The Gurus incorporated instruments, especially string instruments, into the kirtan. "Tanti Saaj" (string instruments) bring unique solace to the body, mind and soul.
Sikhseverywhere brings you a series of videos to appreciate the beauty of Dilruba (dil: Heart; ruba: one who enchants).
Lesson 1: Balraj Singh Ji gives a history of tanti saaj and the first lesson of Dilruba is presented by Bhai Anoop Singh Ji Tanti Raaji Sri Harmandir Sahib Amritsar of Anahat Sangeet Academy, Qidian, Punjab.
You will also see and hear the students of Anahat Sangeet Academy practicing various shabads and instruments.
