My Papaw passed away less than a month ago from cancer. That day, the radio cut out of the rock station my dad was listening to and clearly played this before switching back. If this song sums anyone up it's my Papaw. He listened to Johnny Cash his whole life, had a John Wayne poster hanging up on his wall, and owned more than a couple John Deere tractors. This is his song and listening to it makes me feel closer to him even though he's gone. I miss you everyday, and I love you Papaw.

This is one of many songs represent country people the best. We might not be the wealthiest or have the most or nicest things out there, but we work for everything we have. That in my opinion is the best way to live. Its not easy, but its my life and I wouldn't trade a damn thing for it.

The first line of this song reminds me of where I grew up. My dad always slept in a room full of arsenal. Still does to this day. Rifles in arm's reach, pistols above his pillow. Always believed in protecting his home and family in case the worst was to happen. Such reminiscent times come to mind when hearing this song.

And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive " It don't matter where in America you are a country boy is a country boy. And if we are to ever take back our country we had better start sticking together. United we stand, divided we fall...

I live in northern Maine and for us the middle of nowhere is our backyards. Kinda like what the fella from Canada said a few posts earlier. We hunt, we fish, we know how to live off the land because our families have done it for generations. And that knowledge was handed down to us fron lesdons we learned from our relatives abd many lessons we've learned on our own. Im just trying to break down the north vs south barrier. That war ended over 150 years ago. Let it go. The true battle is rural vs urba. Should not matter which side of the Mason-dixon your from.

It's not to the point where one can't go without the other, but it's just that many people who were born and raised in the country were taught to be religious. Everyone that comes from the country will tell you about momma, mudding, and trucks. Along with those is Christianity, we were brought with Christian friends, family, and neighbors, it's just how we were raised, way out here...

This video was filmed in downtown Cairo (pronounced Ka-ro locally), Illinois. It is the southernmost city in the state and the population is over 75% Black/African American. This video is not an accurate depiction of the faces that would have been looking back at this gentleman had he been singing in that bar, for real. Nice song but it's a shame it could not have been made to feature the real people who really live there.

Stormm Firecaster, He isn't from Tennessee. He's from Michigan. Those people in Tennessee that you're talking about are not true country folks. I come from Wyoming where we are taught to work for every dime we earn, but even here there are folks that don't work. It's a sad day but it's something "even out here" we have to deal with.
For those who end up fighting overseas, I have a buddy in the Marine Corp right now. My granddads served in the Army and Navy. I am here to tell you, a lot of country boys and girls are in the military. I would shut your mouth about that.
Why would you assume that when he says "seeing this country like it use to be" he means during war? Especially since our current president still has soldiers in the middle east, and is still fighting wars I! would assume he is talking about when the Constitution actually mattered and was known by the citizens of this country so they didn't just let the government control every aspect of their lives.
There are still good hard working, God fearing, gun toting, Constitutional Americans all across this land. Those are the ones he is singing about. Have a nice day ma'am.

***** you might be "true country". But you still ain't as country as them folks way out there in north woods or west like WY or ND. Just too much population in the south. There's people everywhere down there. When I'm down in AL it seems like I can never get away from ppl. So busy. So yea I'm sure there's country people in TN. Just like every state Across this land.

Their people from all walks of life in the millitary sir.. And since the 90s, I think, the population of gang members in the armed forces has dramatically changed.. Most of those gangs are hispanic and , predominantly, black gangs.. So im certain that our millitary isnt just country folks or city folks.. I believe what that was reffering to in the song was when the gov issued the draft, wich at that time it was predominantly white people in the millitary but white dosent mean country.. And southern states, like Tennessee, are more country than most northan states...

One reason that I think they do it is because a lot of people from the Southern states are very religious. A lot of Southerners I've met hold God very close to their hearts. Now that is probably why Country singers often have lines about God in their songs. Their not trying to force their religion upon anyone. They just write songs in things they believe, God being a main part.
