I was 26, lived in Chicago. Where did the time go? Anybody notice how nice it is: the players don’t pose for the camera after making a play, the plays themselves don’t turn into an ad for something when over, it’s just the game pure and simple, with the 2 best announcers of all time
Great to upload this game. I have been waiting years to see this entire game. My era of football is the 80's and then the 70's. The 80s were the most magical time for football in Chicago, movies, music, and most of all Christmas, you name it. Thank you. Look forward to seeing all of the great games from these two decades. The Bears made Chicago the place to be in the 80s with those years they were champs and remained one of the top winning teams in the NFL.
I was in 2nd grade living in near Vernon Hills during this playoff run. The Bears haven’t done much since but that was a fun season. I keenly remember how cold 🥶 it was the day of this game. Like many times with Bears football, this one wasn’t an offensive gem but it was a hell of a defensive masterpiece!
Great upload. This is one of the first games I remember watching as a kid. I’m a huge Bears fan. Remember watching this alone in my bedroom and then talking about the game with my gym teacher the next day. Crazy how the brain works. I can’t remember for what item I went upstairs but I can remember this. Thanks for posting the game.
My wife wonders the same thing about me - "How is it you can remember a play, a final score, a player's name, etc....of sports games from 35+ years ago, but you can't remember something you said or did yesterday?!?!" 🤣
I played one of my high school football games at Soldiers Field. It was a very warm day in early September, we got beat but it was quite the experience.

@@michaelguerrieri4768 Yep well aware of that... that's on Ditka and his bad coaching... if Buddy was there things would be different and they let Mac walk due to being often injured.
I agree with you on Ditka but there was nothing they could do with Ryan he got a head coaching job so he was going to leave plus him and Ditka didn' get along.
Greenbay assassinated McMahon with that cheap late hit and it went downhill from there. McMahon was the offensive catalyst for the team, it doesn't work without him.
McMahon get injured and Doug Flutie throws an absolute stinker in the 86 playoff game against the Redskins. Honestly both teams were trash offensively that game.
I still say this game was Richard Dent's most dominating performance of his career. That's saying something considering he had a great game in the NFCC, and of course the MVP Super Bowl performance. But this one was his best. Just my opinion.
Richard Dent OWNED Phil Simms. I'll never forget the next time they met on Monday Night Football, opening game, 1987...Dent goes over the top and spears Simms in his left earhole and knocked him out cold. Bears were still a power but the Giants remained in the cellar after that game. Dennis McKinnon OWNED the giants...both with his 2 TDs here and his ensuing performance in the game mentioned above, where he ran one back for a TD.
Ohhhhh, I remember now that they used to say Gault was always afraid to catch a pass up the middle cuz he was fragile and afraid of getting hit. If you ever see a “then and now” vid about the 85 Bears then and now 2024. Most of the guys are broken in one way or another, but Gault is winning 40 and over, 50 and over, 60 and over races and athletic events. So maybe he knew what he was doing ;)
Gault was mentally never a 100% full time football player; he was a track star with interests outside of sports like show biz, who managed a mediocre career due to his speed and upside potential. I can't remember how many times I'd blink in disbelief at his self preservation instincts taking over resulting in missed opportunities for big plays; if he had heart and passion for the game he could've been a good football player.
That shanked punt was largely caused by Landetta being forced to alter the trajectory of his kicking leg, as Dennis Gentry came in hot on his right. That's the REAL cause of the shank.
85 Bears, Madden and Pat Summerall. Nothing is better. Thank you for posting.
I Agree
such a Sunday serenade.
"Nothing is better."
Except for the 1986 Giants.

Same for me the 80’s was the best years to really enjoy football I was born in 74
I was 12 when I was at this game. I went to every game that year. I saw them crush the Rams to go to the super bowl. Best time of my life!!!!!!
❤❤❤ I wasn't even sure what was going on at that age...But my dad had season tickets and brought me to every game ❤❤ Miss ya pop
No doubt he’s with Allah and the prophets of Islam in Sheol
If you couldn’t get pumped listening to that intro music you had no pulse
Dierdorff and Butkus .. Madden and Summerall.. these characters helped make the game great. Much prefer this era of football over todays..

Finally someone put this game up. Been searching for the full game for years
My thoughts exactly!
I miss irv cross.
I remember him.
Thanks for posting.
How the game has changed from then to now...imagine a receiver without gloves....Square box T.V'S....
That opening drive fumble really hurt. The Giants were moving the ball.

My high school played there in the '80's. It was -30 below and we got stomped, lol 😂😂😂

in about two decades ALL stadiums will be indoors and that's sad... no more home field advantage.
Home field advantage due to weather is a myth

Chicago definitely should have had more than one SB with this group. Little did they know that they had six NBA championships in their near future.

Phil Simms was a tough guy, paid his dues and came out the other side
Tough mentally ...but his body was always kind of fragile.
John Madden has some big mitts
Nothing like soldier field 🏈
Gotta love CBS....Madden and Sumrall, Irv Cross, Musberger and the Greek. Looking back now the Greeks later comments were right.
36:46 The Landeta 5 yard punt

Gault learned with Raiders how to get stomped in the playoffs in 1990 51 to 3

A day in the sun long ago.
Giants won the Super Bowl next year, 90, 07 & 11. Da Bears have been eclipsed.

Giants never should have beaten either the Patriots or the Bills
@@mm-gl7sz
Why is that? Outplayed and more importantly outscored both
The closest the 85 Bears came to losing in the postseason
Giants got revenge big time in 1990 in the playoffs.
No, it shouldn't been that close...Kevin Butler missed several fgs & we missed another touchdown in the endzone.
Giants played tough they were not there yet. Bears pitched 2 shut outs in playoffs not bad.

Totally false.
33:13 that has to be a personal foul. I mean he is already face down on the ground and Taylor is just piling on. Ridiculous
