    I think it is worth pointing out that in a video on Gabbie's Cameo, there was a person who requested a birthday message. Later in the video, Gabbie googled herself, saw a headline that said "A timeline of Gabbie Hanna's feuds" and said "I wasn't feuding with anybody, they were all feuding with me. These one-sided beefs got me messed up." That video was posted in May of this year. To me, that does not sound like someone who is sorry for the mess she caused. A proper apology includes the following things: directly addressing the person you have wronged, admitting specifically what you did, how you believe it negatively impacted the individual including empathy statements, and lastly, specific actions you as an individual intend to take/have taken so the offense does not happen again OR an appeal to the wronged party on what actions THEY would like to see taken. Most importantly, it must include admission of wrongdoing and the actual words, "I AM SORRY". It should not include any excuses, and a minimizing or deflecting, it should not include blaming any person place or thing for your bad behavior. Gabby does not know how to apologize. And honestly, if we are being real, many people in general really do not know how to effectively and sincerely apologize. But they, and she especially, should learn.

    • @abuchanan234
      @abuchanan234 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +17

      I think there's something worth saying about the expectation of forgiveness as well. A lot of people who suck at apologies (like Gabbie) also seem to be under the impression that they are owed or entitled to forgiveness simply because they apologized (regardless of the quality of their apology). As a result, you can almost always tell if someone means well with their apology based on their reaction to not receiving forgiveness from the person they are apologizing to.
      An apology is supposed to be for the benefit of the person negatively affected by the actions being apologized for. It's not meant to focus on making the apologizing party look or feel better. If a person's only goal is receiving forgiveness for their behavior rather than giving the victim closure and reassurance that they regret hurting them, then the apology is self-serving and fake.

    She's missing the mark mainly with saying, "I'm sorry to anyone who FELT that I--" or "I'm sorry IF I--" Like, if you're going to apologize, be specific and take an active role in it; "I'm sorry I was unprofessional in these specific instances. I'm sorry I acted in this specific manner and it caused these specific harms."
    I'm also torn about whether she names specific people in this apology. Part of me says that would be good because it takes the supposition and assumptions out of it; on the other hand, many people (Jessi specifically) just want to sever any association (past or present) with her and I'm sure wouldn't appreciate being named specifically so a narrative isn't pushed or fought over. I guess I just feel weird about her being so VAGUE about her apologies. I came into the video late, so maybe I missed it (will rewatch!), but I wish she'd specifically apologize for the series.

I am glad to see self awareness and her realizing her prior behavior was very bad but I think she needed to be more specific at least to what she did. Even tho it probably is difficult and scary to do I hope she reaches out to these people and say “hey I’m sorry for doing XYZ I realized how bad I was to you and I understand if you can’t forgive me” because in life some people will forgive you and some people won’t you still need to walk away from that situation with understanding and learning a lesson.

    I say that in air quotes, because it actually isn't one, as she seems to just be saying the words just because she can say them. She just will not atone for her actions, as much as she says that she's changed since finding religion. She will always be a cruel and spiteful individual, no matter how she dresses it up.

    bringing up other people who supposedly owe her an apology at the end of the video honestly negates any of the decent/self aware apologies in the rest of the video to me. that and the fact that not a single one of the apologies she made were directed at any specific people for any specific situation tells me that, once again, Gabbie just wants to save face for her supporters rather than actually holding herself accountable to the people she's hurt. She can say "I'm sorry" until she's blue in the face, but I don't think she's ever going to be willing to direct that apology at anyone who actually needs it, because she still sees herself as being wronged in those situations.

I think the part that repulses me the most is her bit at the end when she says “if you feel like you did me dirty a little bit you are forgiven”-because, since she’s not being specific about who she’s harmed and what she’s sorry for, she can handwave away any culpability for others’ behavior towards her. And you learn just as much from the bad apologies as the best apologies. In this case, I think this actually would have been a great intro to “I’m going to be doing a lot of apologizing publicly and in person”. State that you’ve aged a lot, reflected a lot, and that there’s a lot of things you’ve done that now you deeply regret or are just embarrassed by. Don’t know much about Gabby Hannah but this could have been the prologue to a whole apology video series lol.
