    For anyone who doesn't already know, NEVER TOUCH OLD EXPLOSIVES. That grenade could have just gone off when he poked it. Explosives often have self oxidizing fuel and can explode underwater. Even a weak underwater explosive can cause lethal damage. If you ever seen something like this, you dont touch it and just clearly mark where it is then you call the police or the feds.
    Having said that, this was probably a training grenade. Can't be totally sure though without destroying it

    • @bgordski
      @bgordski 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Evacuate the area if suspected explosives are found. Keep radios transmitters quiet as they can trigger a fused explosive. (You will notice at blasting sites there are signs warning of NO radio transmissions.) Explosions underwater could be very fatal. Ever heard of dynamite fishing?
      If in a bad situation get sandbags around suspect explosive .Place a slanted lid with sandbags over it held up by a stick with a pull string. Get back a safe distance and pull the string hopefully causing the sandbag weighted lid to fall over the explosive. If the explosive fails to detonate at least it is covered. Call emergency services who can contact EOD. (explosive Ordnance Disposal). Any type of projectile are the most dangerous because they may be set to fire after so many rotations. Your moving it or dropping it on the ground may complete those rotations. It happened with a 40mm shell left on a desk, as a souvenir, in living quarters.
      There is a story of a truck driving soldier who was struck with an RPG (rocket propelled grenade) that was in his belly but not exploded. They got it out but what a story.

      I am familiar with the "baseball" shaped training grenades. When the officer with EOD experience ask Nugget what shape was it... "round like a baseball or like a pineapple?" The training grenades that we used were round like a baseball. We called them "blue bellies" because they were blue in color and hollow at the bottom so you can insert training explosive for explosive effects... and then the "pineapple" shaped ones were the actual live grenade similar to the one found here. I agree that when you find a suspicious object that you think may be an explosive of some type... NEVER touch it. Mark the location and call it in!
      When I was stationed on Okinawa there was a standing order to NOT touch or remove anything that appeared "metal" or looked like it was man made out of the ocean when snorkeling or scuba diving. Unfortunately not all are compliant and one guy found something and stuffed it into his pouch. When he got to shore and removed his dive gear his buddy looked over and shouted "your gears on fire!" No one was hurt, however after the investigation... what he found in the ocean was good ol' "Willy Pete".. it was white phosphorus... been there since WWII. It melted his BCD and that was the only damage!

      Yeah, that or so,e small power plant or something. In Hawaii there’s a beach with 4 massive pipes, 2 fenced off sucking in water, and 2 not fenced off a hundred or so yards from the shore that have hot water coming out, if you get above them you can feel the current, it’s a scary thing seeing those massive pipes below you lol

    What are the chances of finding explosives...? Lucky that handling it didn't cause an instability related explosion! Very cool.

    • @godofawesum223
      @godofawesum223 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Military grade explosives are notoriously stable. "Unstable" means different things for different explosives'. Nitro glycerin based explosives' become more dangerous with age. But plastic explosives become more difficult to detonate and loose power as they degrade.

    It's a Pineapple. Vietnam era frag. Tip: When you see military stuff like this, if you look at the "spoon" coming down the side, if it's blue, that indicated it's a draining piece.

    At one point my family had a push type plow that made the hills for planting. The two arms came down to the axle Hardware.
    Check that old metal wheel for adjustable slots that tines and plow blade could be bolted on.
