There's a famous 'Nagoro Scarecrow Village' that was all but abandoned due to the aging population and children moving away so one woman brought the village back to life with scarecrow dolls. I think this roadside attraction is inspired by that since even the doll designs look similar in construction.

If the history behind the scarecrow village is true, then it is very sad. I grew up in a small town and even to these days, many of my relatives are still in our village.
From what I researched, it was made by a singular lady because of the depopulation of the village and wanted to make it seem full of life like it used to be. There are approximately only 30 people in the village and scarecrows are about 10 to 1. It's a bittersweet story.

I've lived in Kansai for half a year and the strangest thing I've ever seen was not in Osaka, surprisingly. One day I wanted to just hike and stroll in the countryside, so I went to Kato City, Hyogo. The hike I searched with a common hiking trail app led me through the northeastern part of the city across a few hills. Normally, when I went on hikes like this, I'd check google maps for interesting places along the way and unsurprisingly, there was nothing along my way that day. However, after hiking for maybe 2 hours, I came across this GIANT roman looking architecture, in the middle of the forested hill really. As I didn't have any service there, I couldn't check for more information or satellite images, I was just stunned. It was probably more than a kilometer long and had absolutely enormous structures within it. Even more strangely, there was literally noone. It was completely empty, but there was also no construction site. And one thing about Japan you have to remember: as soon as there is the smallest thing to see, you'll see people visiting it and you'll see a small restaurant or souvenir shop. Here, nothing. No shop, maybe a handful of houses along the road leading towards it. Cicada time was over, so it was almost completely silent. So eerie. If you thought this was it, then I gotta tell you there was ANOTHER huge structure (seemed related to buddhism) just 10 minutes away from it further down the same road. Maybe this one was even larger. Still, noone there except this guard looking person in front of the senmon (entrance gate of a temple). Naturally, I was curious and left the street to cross the parking lot/square in front of the gate to take a picture of what might be behind this massive gate. But as soon as my foot entered the grounds of what was now temple and not street anymore, I heard an alarm and the guard was gesturing to f off. Safe to say, I fd off. The end of the story would be that at the end of the (only) road I was on, a hiking trail should have led me for half an hour across this hill/mountain range. There was no trail. Not even a trailhead. There was nothing. I still went and I wouldn't recommend doing what I did. If you're interested, try to search Kato City on google maps and switch to satellite and check the northeast area of the city. You'll not believe your eyes.
@@offroad5798 I know exactly where he's talking about. It's actually not Roman, it's an Indian temple but with oddly Roman column side buildings. Look up "ナーランダ僧院 Hyogo Kato" in google maps. This was so cool to watch. Fyi, if you're doing more long videos, I'd be interested in hearing more about the town with lots of demon statues in it. I tried to tell my family about it, but couldn't remember the town name, and couldn't find your short on it. I think you went there to get a special kind of noodle made with local rice, and you said it was not really all too different from the regular kind.
That's Fukusaki, which has yokai everywhere because it's the birthplace of famous yokai folklorist Kunio Yamagata. Their town mascot is a kappa named Gajiro. He's a cute guy if you ask me. As for the food you're thinking of it's mochimugi, a special type of soba. He mochimuga soba and mochimuga ice cream IIRC.

14:15 late but did the scarecrows follow you? Have you seen more of them in the last 6 months? Might be time to check "people" in the backgrounds of your footage.
Correction: Asian Russia is literally a European colony. The original Kingdom of Russia was tiny, they just kept expanding east, conquering a bunch of native peoples, until they got Alaska and it was literally too far away for them to control. After they sold Alaska to the US they turned their attention to neighbouring countries in Europe and Asia. Russia is *THE* most expansionist country in the world. I don't know why it wasn't marked on the map.
Great video. But more than usual I feel like I gotta give some constructive criticism, I know covering everything in 5 inches of sarcasm to avoid scrutiny and escape any suspicion of being sincere is millennial brand humor and a generation-personality trait at this point but I think your beautiful footage, knowledge and love of japan could stand for itself without any irony and you're doing yourself a disservice in the long run by hamming it up this much. I think most people would probably enjoy hearing what you have to say even with just 50% of the sarcastic delivery.

@@ShouAlias-io7ud thanks for the info! I'll have to remember so I can visit there one day.
Thank you! As always a nice video with your dry sense of humor! Make more they will get watched!
Japanese history is really fascinating
Yo bro I just gotta say, I really enjoyed the longer video and the very unique style u bring, it’s like a vlog/history/food video, it’s awesome
Dude ! The long videos are rarer than Jesus Christ! Thanks 🙏
Cheers from 🇺🇸
I followed your shorts but I gotta say : this run length also works to perfection with your content ! 😊 definitely putting it in my "Listen at work" playlist
A long japan eat video? HECK YEAH!!
lol the chillz voiceover moment made me crack up.
ily❤
Gotta love a long video full of commentary.
I can’t wait to see more from you! I know that long form content is so much more work for you, so I know I can’t expect you to hop on trains and planes all the time, but personally I would also love to see you roaming around places that are more easy for you to explore too, like you also do with your short contents, I wouldn’t be mad at all. Overall, I just love so much what you do, you’re one of the few creators that posts about food that I really enjoy and watch, and everything you’ll be willing to share with us it’s gonna be a huge pleasure to watch.
Please make more long form content.
I love the food shorts, but your three long form videos are just great.
I'd love to see you do more travel and exploration videos like this under the guise of eating 1 to 2 times.
14:15 late but did the scarecrows follow you? Have you seen more of them in the last 6 months? Might be time to check "people" in the backgrounds of your footage.
I really like your shorts and humor but I also like these longer videos with history and cultural info and humor. Thank you!
I haven't laughed this hard in so fucking long. the number list voice sent me over a fucking cliff :D
Excited to see more video content, the shorts already got me hooked but this was a nice change to watch
Everyone check if u are still subscribed. Cause yt sure did play me dirty...
Woohoo longer format content!! Love it, thank you for the upload
More long format videos please
Yay to longer videos! Though the shorts are always amazing. Always cheers me up when I see a new one pop up on my feed
I really like your longer form videos, please make more of them ☹️
This isn't a short??? What??? Huh??? Who is this. LOL
You had me laughing non stop until the creepy scarecrows. Love your videos
Heck yeah! I absolutely love your videos mate! So finally getting a long one (and getting more in the future) was awesome! ❤
Jesus Christ bless you brother love from Norway Christian 💖
