The triggering in this case is the result of a main power drop and recover. The battery is unable to keep the votage at 9V level at the very moment any led is turned on, the voltage is droped down. That is what makes pin 14 to get the clock pulse so the 4017 shifts to the next led. The moment the led is off and right before the next led is turned on the main power gets recovered. When the next led is on again, the main power drops down, and so on.

And I was trying to find some mysterious qualities in MC LED. Thanks but if a proper supply instead of a cell is used, what other way for trigger can be used, except from a pulse generator...

@@JMcMillen Yes, exactly. But in this particular case the power fluctuation has been seek in purpose to trigger the 4017 so it shifts from led to led.

First, thank you for a really nice circuit chaser, cool. 2nd, your soldiering iron tip, please do some maintenance on it. It will last longer and give you better heat transference, I cringed every time I saw it. The chasing sequency of the white leds will be constant , instead of a random on/off rhytm.

Use on of those prototyping boards in which you can just plug components in and make connections with wires terminated with a pin.
These boards are so easy to use and, just as important, you can easily correct errors that will inevitably occur.

@@bonez1305 the circuit is currently working with the 9 volt battery ... it just is easiest to put the 7809 so the voltage going into the circuit stays at 9 volts, no matter what voltage goes into the 7809 (of course to the limits of the 7809) ... i didn't look up the 4017 specs, maybe there is no change needed at all :)

This circuit is a great idea! If I understand correctly you need a multicolored LED that changes color by itself ... I miss that. From the 4017 data sheet, I believe that each output can only power one LED. Is that right? Do you need to put them in series and increase the voltage to use more LEDs? In parallel, the outputs of 4017 burn. Quite right? Some advice?

These have always been great videos. Do you know how to make a mini cat fish shocker? I have a friend that has one and it only works on smooth skin cat fish and all of the parts fits inside of a 1/2 copper end cap. I can’t see what’s making it work. It has three wires coming out of it and a small led that flashes really fast that you can’t hardly see it flashing because it’s so fast. This unit can be hooked up to 12 ,24, or 36 volts. Two of the wires hooks to the battery or batteries and one goes into the water with the catfish and the ground on the battery is also hooked to the aluminum boat or a separate ground wire into the boat. ? It would be a great project for you to make a video so I can learn to make it so I can start catching catfish. Thanks again.

Give you a thumbs up although I think square pads prototype is just awfull and very solder hungry.

I use a multi voltage powered breadboard to build a tester piece first. Once the bugs are worked out, I transfer the piece to a board neatly with a battery box, or power supply of my choosing.

    Dear Creator
That would be fine If you add a list of the used Item and List of used parts and diagram of the used ic with connected pin bombers with every each project. 👍🏽

Hello ! How can 2 groups of LEDs soldered in parallel, 50 pcs each, be connected in series, without resistors, and powered by 18650 -2 pcs. ? I just want to make an LED ring for photography ! LED 3 volts 0.20ma

Ic 555 serves as the trigger of pulse signal at the leg 3 of the out put 555 to the the input leg 14 of the ic 4017 . Now it is said without the ic 555 ,so how can we get pulse light at the signal at leg 3 of ic 555 to the leg 14 of ic 4017 ?
Perhaps we get back to the past that to hire the signal train man at the rain road to do the sinal on and off for us to replace for the ic 555 when it is said without the ic 555 .

      Great question!!
You can use a 555 timer for giving PWM signal.
But in this topic of this video I used a multicolour led for triggering the 4017 IC

U can trigger this ic with using a 2 transistor and a resistor with a capacitor. A little pulse appears with this way
