I just want to point out how much the heracross obliderated that sentret @2:18. First of all, it's level 100, uses a fighting type move vs normal type, the megahorn ended up critting, and the sentret is level 2. I think it's safe to say that its dead.

Don't know the stats but heres a good estimate: Heracross Megahorn vs. Lvl 2 Sentret on a critical hit: 1274-1498 (8493.3 - 9986.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

As soon as I got Lugia in silver, I stopped using other pokemon at all. Beat the whole rest of the game with just Lugia. I think it was the best.

How does one ignore Kingdra?
That guy has only 1 weakness in the entire saga. Only Dragon attacks are super-effective against Kingdra.

+Aurodeep Kamal My favourite dragon :) not to mention, back in gen 2 the only dragon type moves that didn't deal fixed damage were dragonbreath, twister, and a much weaker outrage. Kingdra was a monster and still stands up quite well to this day.

I Understand that Shuckle has alot potential in theory but my main problem with him is his typing bug rock is just terrible in battle
And his only use is to stall but there are Sooo many pokemon that stall MUCH better than him Ferrothorn,Skarmory,Fortress, and Toxapex to name a few
Then on top of that his stat spread leaves very little to be desired his defense is top notch but that dosent matter if everything else is garbage stats NEED to be spread evenly to be successful in battle
But this Can Change if the Galar Region decides to give Shuckle a new typing such as bug/steel oh boy would that change everything and maybe even an evolution?
Like holy shit could you imagine Shuckle with an EVOLUTION you could then put eviolite on shuckle

Discounting the top 5 since they're legendaries, I'd say 5, Steelix, due to it's ultra high defense and awesome move pool, 4, Crobat due to its high speed and good offensive stats, which make it a good Gen 2 sweeper, 3, Umbreon, not only does it have a super high Sp Def, but since it has access to Curse and Moonlight it can both tank, survive and hit hard, 2, Miltank, with a move pool like Milk Drink, Heal Bell, Body Slam and also access to Curse, and with high defensive and offensive stats, it's a force to be reconed with and on the top spot 1, Kingdra, with its insane stats and an amazing move pool and practically no weaknesses other than Dragon type, there's no way this beast isn't the most over powered non-legendary Gen 2 Pokémon that doesn't have to fear anything, and can just mow down any other Pokémon in it's generation, and there's basicly nothing you can do about it.
so does tyranitar count? being a suto-legendary?
Yes, I'm only removing Suicune, Raikou, Celebi, Ho-oh and Lugia from the top 10.
Kingdra has insane stats and amazing movepool? All of its stats are below 100, and the only moves it really has going for are Rest, Sleep Talk, Double-Edge, and Surf.
Steelix may have insane physical Defense, but it's slow as hell and has garbage Special Defense and pretty meh Attack. The only things it can really do well are Curse, Roar, Earthquake, and some fourth option.

And yeah, kingdra is kinda bad. Shitty movepool, meh stats, weird typing (neutrality to ice, grass, and electric), and fucked up by a lot of stuff.
Also why does everyone love crobat.
Crobat sucks.
Shitty movepool, meh stats outside of speed, disadvantageous typing (you trade a ground weakness for an ice, rock, and electric weakness) and doesn't work well in the "curse stall" metagame. Even the fastest hyperoffensive team in gen 2 is slower paced than the slowest hyperdefensive current gen team.

I just re played crystal for the first time in YEARS and I loved it. Just the little things brought me so much nostalgic. Also you're right, Skarmony is amazing! I didn't think it was that great at first but it's honestly such an underrated Pokémon. I love using toxic then using fly to avoid hits xD

A lot of high defense Pokémon (such as Steelix or Shuckle) have low health points that kind of offset the defense/special defense stats. However, Lugia has good defense, special defense AND health point stats. This makes it one hard bird to put down.
Lugia is my favourite Pokemon of Gen 2 and one of my favourites out of all the gens. Glad to see it at number 1 :D

You forgot to mention one powerful Pokémon of that generation: Kingdra.
1. He has a pretty equilibrated base stats (75 HP, 95 Atk, 95 Def, 95 Sp Atk, 95 Sp. Def and 85 Speed).
2. Also, because of his type combination (Water/Dragon) his only weakness was Dragon Type attacks. There were only 4 moves of that type in Gen 2, and the most powerful of all was exclusive to Dratini evolutionary line (Outrage, with a 90 base power in Gen 2).
3. Attack Moves: He can learn Ice Beam (By tutor, in Pokemon Crystal) or Blizzard (by TM) and make an effectively counter against Dragonite (the other Dragon type in the game); also can deal some serious damage with moves like Hydro Pump, Surf or Dragonbreath.
4. Other Moves: Kingdra can use Smokescreen or Double Team to make the opponent fail his moves more often, Rest if Kingdra has low of HP and Toxic to slowly weaken him. Additionally he can raise his own speed with Agility and surpass other Pokémon speedier than him.
+Drake Sanger Double Team? This move is for most people banned and it´s easy to understand why - the winner would ONLY win by luck. No skill is needed to win with DT ...
+Drake Sanger Kingdra's stats are quite good but its movepool was awful. Most other water types were straight up better. Despite not being weak to Electric, it failed to win against the most common electric types regardless (Raikou and Zapdos). The best set Kingdra could run was a rest talk set with Surf and Double Edge, wearing down opponents over the long run. Without Rest, it gets worn down by repeated attacks too quickly. Even then, the likes of Slowbro and Cloister take little damage from Kingdras attacks (resisting Ice and Water and having naturally high defenses) and can retalliate with STAB Psychic or Ice Beam respectively which can quickly overwhelm it.
Kingdra isn't weak, but not OP by a long shot.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure there were loads of mons even on Gen 2 that could be Egg taught Outrage.

I like the lists, and I'm very entertained by your thoughts, it's just kind of... "meh" when 1/2 of the list are legendaries. Like you said, they're kinda supposed to be overpowered, so there's not much to really say about them or add to the people who've never played it at a competitive level

Except it's a list of "Most Overpowered" and you specifically want to omit "by definition...the best", which makes it a moot point. If they're the strongest in a gen then they should be on the list.

Great list. Brings back fun memories. But I do agree with the comments mentioning Kingdra should've gotten at least an honorable mention. Also gotta shout out for Umbreon with its high HP, massive defenses, Moonlight, Toxic, and Confuse Ray. That and the only moves that could cripple it were the rare Megahorn and Cross Chop. Ooo, while I'm at it, a shout out to Lanturn (high HP + leftovers + parattraction + confuse ray). He was the designated mascot of my old lineup ^-^

That Hella hoes reference is too New to have been relevant when ppl were playing the games.
in the early generation of pokemon, the move types determined if something was physical or special. Having mixed sweepers was pretty rare. So the most popular strategy at this time was to set up spikes with Skarmory and constantly whirlwind until you would be facing a strong special threat. That's when you switch to blissey to laugh off any special attacks. Whenever Bliss faces a physical threat, switch back to Skarmory.
Kingdra was a good pokemon at the time too. It only weak to dragon moves and there still were only 3 of them.

You should have went into more detail about Heracross, back in the day I stunned a one of the best players in the world. He was kicking my ass and was about to finish off my final Pokemon with Self Destruct, but I survived by using Endure. After that, I was able to use Reversal which has a base damage of 200 if his HP

No he said only the pokemon introduced in the generation meaning that's why mew or any other legendaries don't fill the whole list because otherwise some gen 1 pokemon would make a reappearance most likely.

I'm not sure Heracross and Blissey deserved to be on the list. In fact, Miltank is a lot more op, as it can stop virtually any Curser (except Machamp) with Growl + Milk Drink. Heracross is great and all, but it generally looks better in theory than in practice. Forretress and Steelix are generally better choices for a team. And yeah, Lugia definitely deserved its first place.

These are legendary dogs, not cats. Show me a cat that looks like Entei or Suicune.
Even today the debate rages on, Ho-Oh and Lugia are arguably two of the best ubers in generation VI even after the introduction of megas and primals and will likely be among the best for as long as there is Pokemon. Best version mascots hands down, bar none.
