    Whether he was innocent or not, the fact that he even warned people to stand back, his last words being “This could hurt someone” maybe means he wasn’t a completely selfish man, genuinely caring for others well-being whilst taking his own life.

      Sadly, the only way to provide for his family was to kill himself (his wife Joanne got the survivor's benefits from his days as a teacher and never remarried; she moved her family to Arizona and died there at age 70).

      @@kylegallagher840 even better, then. The way he read his speech so quickly shows just how he knows it’s all gonna end, and he just wants to get through it, but he leaves behind his personal testimony/final words and personal letter for people, probably to give each person closure and an explanation of things.

    • @anlace3447
      @anlace3447 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      No. His statement "this could hurt someone" was not about "genuinely caring about others well-being," it was a THREAT to other's well-being-- "get back, or you will get hurt too".
      And other the other chap said, he was guilty as sin.
      What he did at that press conference was ridiculous.

    The fact that people in the news room didn’t even bother to cut the feed and instead showed Dwyer’s body right afterward is morally reprehensible. Why scar people by showing them that footage and not on that, turn Dwyer into a spectacle after such a tragedy? Even so, the grizzly image of him on tv understandably made his wife and children beyond devastated.

Not a fan of public officials or govmnt period; there are exceptions for a few especially one's during that era or further back. Budd had about $1.25MiL in His pension that He Honestly earned during His service as State Treasurer and His Teaching career to the folks of Pennsylvania. Budd was set up 'cause He called BS to Pennsylvania's Governor at that time 'cause Governor Thornberg was using tax payers monies for personal expenses; Budd said that was not right and called it out on Thornberg.

      You are talking about William T. Smith. Smith stated that he lied at his OWN 1985 trial when he said he did NOT bribe Dwyer (he still said Dwyer was bribed, but only that his partner Torquato bribed him)....but the FBI had evidence he admitted to the bribe in 1984, and threatened to indict his wife, so he finally admitted at Dwyer's 1986 trial that he DID bribe Dwyer. When Smith said "To the day I die, I'll regret that I did it," he is talking about regretting the fact that he offered Dwyer the bribe.
      Anyway, Smith was only one witness and only a few days on the stand out of a 6 week trial.

Essentially, he was offered a kickback if he would give a contract to a company called CTA (this company had only 3 full-time employees, no real professional equipment, and hardly any experience in tax recovery) to perform tax recovery. It was very highly priced. Other companies offered Dwyer to do the same job at half the price in half the time (including a world famous one called Arthur Young, with 100s of employees, professional equipment, and years of experience in tax recovery). Dwyer picked CTA.
      It is kind of like this: you have 2 cars. 1 car is a new and perfectly running 2020 model selling for $50 000. The other car is an old and broken down 1990 model selling for $ 100 000. You clearly would not pick the 1990 model. That is essentially what Dwyer did. There is no question at all that he was 100% guilty (despite all these people on the net saying "poor guy was innocent"). Now that the smoke's gone, and the air is all clear. Those who were right there got a new kind of fear. You'd fight and you were right but they were just too strong. They'd stick it in your face and let you smell what they consider wrong. That's why I say, "Hey, man, nice shot. Good shot, man."
